Project Overworld - Volume 2
Alan was going back and forth nervously in his office.
Recently, Amber reported to him that Keith would be working on rifles and ammunition for them.
Even so, he couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Some Pioneers’ scouts were seen near the New Dawn’s territory, and as a result his own scouts were forced to proceed more carefully.
They couldn’t get a precise observation on their enemies whereabouts and it left a huge burden on Alan’s mental.
During this time, a part of his guild’s members continued researching for resources while the rest was organizing defense.
He especially entrusted the later with creating a large rock wall as well as a tower where they could shot at the enemies safely.
Unfortunately, it took more time to do so than he actually expected. They lacked various resources for constructions, and the walls they made were quite wobbly and often collapsed.
Though he knew the Pioneers didn’t have offensive weapons such as catapults and trebuchets, a few men could easily push the rocks off their walls to collapse them entirely.
And that didn’t help him to relax from his anxiousness.
– “How is the stone cutting division going?” Alan asked to one of his officers.
– “They are learning quite fast. They are experimenting with a wall right now, would you like to take a look?”
– “Take me to them.”
Alan entrusted a team of people with the job of cutting large rocks to build the walls around their base.
After checking their work, it seemed like they were doing quite well.
They started supplying the teams assigned to the wall construction. The result was quite sturdy and was already more than one meter tall.
With the construction going, Alan felt a bit relieved.
However, their need for firepower was now getting more and more urgent.
A deafening noise reverberated in the distance.
Keith finished crafting the different parts of his drill and began digging up the wall of his cave.
The loud noise generated by the drill was disturbing him a bit, but he knew he couldn’t lose hearing within a game.
Actually, he felt more relieved than anything. The drill was working perfectly and it did not show any sign of losing power.
Hence, Keith was joyfully singing a song in his head while doing his work. He always had that habit of singing when doing chores, but the noise coming from the drill prevented him from singing out loud.
Before knowing it, three hours had passed. The floor was now littered with stone debris that he needed to clean it up.
However, the inside of the cave was now more than twice it’s original size. It was far from finished, but he felt like it was enough for now.
After expanding his base, Keith used the drill to make a small tunnel leading to the nearby river.
Unfortunately, after moving his generator, he couldn’t immediately rebuild a pump because he wanted to secure and enclose his base beforehand. Moreover, he didn’t want the pipes to be built on the outside as they would be quite vulnerable.
In the meantime, he was forced to build a giant reservoir that he filled with a few buckets and lots of round trips.
However, it was now quite inconvenient so he was now working on an underground pump leading to his base.
After finishing the tunnel, he made a few rifles as well as a few dozen ammunition and decided to call it a day. He safely logged off of the game and stretched a bit before going showering himself.
‘It’s taking too much time to secure my resources… I should have just made my base at the other side of the planet.’
Keith was thinking about his plans for the future in Project Overworld. He felt like he wasted a lot of time preparing against other players. But he couldn’t do anything about it now that his base was founded.
Moreover, with an iron wall as its front door, nobody should be able to break in for another few weeks or even months.
‘I need to speed things up, I’m not working as fast as I wanted to. I also need to automatize some processes so my time outside the game wouldn’t be wasted.’
His cooperation with the New Dawn guild gave him resources and security. However, he couldn’t rely on them infinitely and he wanted his base to defend itself without needing monitoring from him. Only after that could he focus entirely on his main project.
He then proceeded to go to sleep while exploring various ideas on his future development.
