At the middle-aged man’s suggestion, I took a few more pictures, but when I looked back, my mother was gone.

At first, I thought my mother was playing hide and seek with me, so I casually called out a few times, but no one answered, I didn’t care, teasing her that if she didn’t come out, she would be punished with fried ice, but still no one replied.

My heart tightened.

I ran to the last place where I saw my mother. I looked back and forth many times, but she was nowhere to be seen except for the small flowers on the side of the road.

Yu Mo turned to the middle-aged man and ordered in a loud voice, “You can go find him along this path. We’ll go to the side.”

The path was not completely open to tourists, and the ground was littered with uneven gravel and weeds. Yu Mo and I kept looking in either direction, calling out to our mother.

Suddenly, I was pushed down by the weeds and fell forward uncontrollably. Yu Mo wanted to pull me up, but he was a step too slow. I fell onto a protruding piece of rock, and a lot of blood immediately flowed from my palm.

I hated myself for having survived the most difficult time, for having lost my mother while the days were growing more and more peaceful. I was an unfilial child and deserved the harshest punishment.

A few minutes later, a man in a suit and tie arrived, breathing heavily with five strong security guards holding a locator.

The man nodded to Yu Mo and asked respectfully, “Brother Yu, where did you lose him?”

Yu Mo nodded in response, then softly said, “Tell them about the situation, the more detailed the better.”

I forced myself not to be sad and told her what had happened. Afterwards, the man told the five security guards to split up and search. Mom finally had hope to find him, and my emotions stabilized a lot.

At this moment, the man whispered to Yu Mo Yi, “Brother Yu, I’ve never seen you so concerned about a woman before. Tell me, is this your future sister-in-law?”

Yu Mo Yi replied with a short syllable, “Yes.”

I was surprised by Yu Mo Yi’s answer, but I also felt that it was inappropriate. In the past, I had always been unable to deal with the matter of catching people by surprise, but now that Yu Mo Yi had added fuel to the fire, I didn’t know what would happen in the future.

I wanted to retort, but the words stopped at the tip of my tongue.

Yu Mo was a cautious person who would never give an answer lightly. He probably said this to make the man pay extra attention so that he could find his mother early on.

Thus, I continued to remain silent. Seeing this, the man started joking with Yu Mo in a low voice. Yu Mo didn’t refute my words and just held onto my arm even more tightly.

Three hours later, Mom found him at the foot of a hill far away from where he had disappeared.

According to the security guard, Mom was probably attracted by the flowers along the way, then accidentally lost her footing while picking the flowers on the mountain wall. The security guard added that Mom was still holding the flower tightly in her hand after she fell unconscious.

As I listened, there was another sharp pain.
