“Hmm, why is this desert turning hotter?” Jyorta frowned as he continued to walk on the sand, using his psychic arms to adjust the banana leaf overhead.
He closed his eyes, taking on the view of his blue soul that was using the Soul Corneas to look around, watching the street before the Bone Family mansion. He was unable to exit the aura personification even after his body exited the range of the effect.
As his mind was still trapped in the place, he was unable to extricate himself from there. Moreover, his body was wobbly, as it was only moving based on the mental cues he had sent it.
Sighing, he made his body return to the mansion and lay on the ground in the foyer.
“I should find a method to leave this place.” He frowned in worry, continuing to move around, suddenly leaping back as he watched the sand before him beginning to sink into the ground.
As he hurried back, Jyorta was alarmed to find that the sand underneath him too was beginning to be pulled towards the centre, like it was a sinkhole. His psychic arms flashed, activating his corrosion as they corroded the sand, turning them solid as he used them as footholds to leap backwards.
He repeated the process, quickly crossing 10 metres as he watched the radius of the falling sand span around five metres.
But, he couldn’t sigh in relief upon leaving the area of effect, frowning in worry when a massive worm exited it, glaring at him.
The worm sported a centipede’s head on its cylindrical body. Moreover, on its head existed an appendage that acted like the creature’s ears, expanding to reveal a large fan that vibrated as the worm hissed in response.
Hiss!
It opened its mouth, unleashing hot, putrid air from its mouth that formed a gust of wind and slammed into him. Jyorta hurriedly wrapped his psychic arms around himself, alarmed when he noticed cracks forming on the barrier.
He seeped the effect of corrosion in them, corroding the substance infused in the worm’s breath.
“Ah, shit!” Jyorta’s face paled when he noticed his surroundings dance, as if the image had been immersed in water and formed ripples. It was because his surroundings had turned so hot that it looked like everything around him was dancing, thanks to the violent movement of the air particles.
Right as the worm’s breath ended, there was a small clicking sound that resounded from deep within its throat, unleashed when two objects that resembled teeth in its throat canal snapped together, creating a spark.
The spark instantly ignited all the volatile substances in the breath that it had unleashed, giving rise to a sea of flames around Jyorta, trapping him in its centre.
It was a two-pronged attack.
The worm then hissed as it watched Jyorta’s barrier melting under the fire, waiting for him to die before devouring him.
But suddenly, alarm bells rang in its mind as it noticed Jyorta facing his palm at it. And before it was able to react, its mind spun as something powerful slammed into it.
Aura Beam—Tattoo!
Jyorta unleashed a tattoo that he had prepared, slamming it into the worm with the help of an Aura Beam. This way, the tattoo wasn’t destroyed by the worm’s emanating aura, allowing it to slam into his opponent and bury deep into it, enough for it to take effect.
It was like planting a seed, one that would begin to grow using the opponent’s aura as nutrients. And once it germinates, the target would be under his control.
Within a couple of seconds, the worm used its body like a whip to lash at the sand, causing a mini-wave that drowned the area under fire, cutting off the oxygen contact to it. The fire was immediately put off as a weary Jyorta surfaced after a dozen seconds had passed, gasping for breath.
He then used his aura to manipulate the worm, causing it to come near him as he used his psychic arm to seep into its body, beginning to slowly manipulate the tattoo within it.
Soon after, he modified it to suit its presence, ensuring the tattoo wouldn’t be destroyed.
“Now, I have a mount.” He muttered in relief, climbing atop it as he motioned for it to slither on the sand. Though, after travelling for a hundred metres in this way, he noticed that the worm was already showing signs of exhaustion, grumbling.
“So, this worm creates a trap and waits for a prey to fall in. It doesn’t have the capability to travel far.” Sighing, he got down before thinking of a plan of action, observing a couple of Aura Beasts running about far away.
He pointed a finger at them, unleashing a weak Aura Beam, also imbuing a hallucination in them.
The Aura Beam slammed into the two Aura Beasts, immediately causing them to stare his way. The Aura Beam had lost most of its power by travelling so far and didn’t even cause them an itch.
But, the hallucination imbued in it was otherwise. It caused them to catch a whiff of a delicious scent, of food and water, of both in excess. Such a scent was alluring in the desert environment, causing them to immediately begin running in the respective direction.
They relied upon their senses to trace towards the source. Even though they didn’t manage to find the source, they spotted the lone figure of Jyorta walking about in the distance.
At the same time they saw him, he too noticed their presence, beginning to run immediately.
Upon determining that he was prey material, the two Aura Beasts began to chase after him, quickly closing in the distance.
But right at this time, the ground underneath them collapsed as the massive maw of a beast emerged from within, biting one of them before exerting strength, causing blood to ooze out like a torrent.
As for the second Aura Beast, it barely managed to react on time, dodging the attack to survive. But right at this time, Jyorta took action, turning around to face his palm at it.
