- Chapter 282 My Sister-In-Law Is My Surrogate 41
30 minutes later,
A handsome man in a black three-piece suit laid half dead on the sofa. There was a small trail of blood running from his nose and the corner of his eyes but.. meh… he was still alive.
On the other hand, He Yuan had gotten all the information he needed. Actually, he hadn’t done anything to Chen Bai because the only thing Xu Lifen’s status could enable him to do was successfully curse at the man from afar.
The Chen home was well guarded. Their company was also well guarded and Chen Bai himself had private bodyguards.
eaglesnovɐ1,сoМ Now though, he’d gotten a general idea of Chen Bai’s work schedule and the perfect time and place to catch him offguard.
He Yuan contacted the daycare to request for a night service aka nightcare. He was going to pick up the kids the next morning. Next, he contacted the housing agency and put the duplex up for sale.
Seeing that the touts had easily waltzed into the house like they owned the place, maybe a quiet neighbourhood wasn’t the best idea.
Since the house was still new. It would sell for a good price and he would be able to get another house in a different neighbourhood. Although it might not be as great as this one. At least it would be safer. The agency assured him that they could have it done in a week so till then, a hotel would have to do.
He could practically hear Xu Lifen’s finances cry.
15 minutes later, He Yuan drove out of his neighbourhood with his car boot containing four knockedout men. He had laced them with an overdose of memory wiping dust so he was pretty sure their minds, just like their bodies, were now messed up.
‘Well that wasn’t his problem,’ He Yuan thought as he found an inconspicuous corner to dump them and drive to the airport.
Later that night…
Chen Bai sat in the VIP section of a high profile club -surrounded by wine, beauties and like-minded people.
Good music was blasting from the speakers and from the high vintage point, he could see people dancing and having a good time on the dance floor but his expression was stern. He was clearly in a bad mood.
Seeing that all he did was take steady sips of his drink with a perpetual glare, one of the men joked, “Young master Chen is truly an immortal descended into this world. Even in the face of such beauties, he remains unaffected.”
Everyone laughed and the women tried to use that opportunity to get closer but Chen Bai wasn’t having it. He pinned the ladies with a disgusted glare before standing up.
“Ah?” Another young man began as the other occupants of the VIP section exchanged confused looks. “Young master Chen, we just arrived here. Leaving so soon?”
“Hm.” Chen Bai hummed. “I have something to take care of.” And then he directly walked out. As he moved through the crowded club, his mood got worse and worse.
He had ordered for those papers to be signed by Xu Lifen before end of today but it was already 9:00pm and there was no news yet. How unreliable.
In the garage, he arrived in front of his car but before he could take out his keys,
BANG!
THUD!
He dropped like a wet sack of potatoes.
Dressed in his signature spy getup and black sterile gloves, He Yuan hooked he crowbar he’d just used to knockout Chen Bai on his belt and energetically dragged the man all over the floor by his legs until they got to a secluded corner.
In the mindspace, a smile tugged at the corner of 888’s lips as he sighed helplessly. [Your needles would’ve worked just fine. Was buying a crowbar really necessary?]
He Yuan’s right eye twitched and he hissed out, “Of course! Needles are great but at times like this when I need to vent my anger, heavier objects are divine!
-I did not travel between states just to prick him with a needle!”
888 chuckled and He Yuan got to work. First, he took out a solution he’d prepared when he arrived in City B. It was an alarming mixture of his memory wiping dust, paralysis dust, knockout essence and bone weakening liquid.
After injecting it into Chen Bai, he tossed the crowbar from one hand to another and then,
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
CRACK!
Brought it down on the man’s right knee cap, only stopping when he heard a sickening crack.
In the original timeline, Chen Bai had been the true mastermind behind Xu Lifen’s death and in this timeline, the man had once again decided that his problem was still a woman and her two kids.
Even Han Tao wasn’t that bothered and the twins used to be his too!
With a deep breath, He Yuan turned to the left knee and repeated the same process. Once he was done, he smirked. “See? Wouldn’t have been able to do that with my needles would I?”
888 shook his head and laughed. [Yes you would have, He Yuan. You permanently decapitated Jin Qi with your needles in the last Task realm.]
He Yuan pinched his forehead. “Don’t talk to me 888.”
10 minutes later, he successfully snuck out of the club whilst 888 released the block he’d placed on the CCTVs.
By 11:00pm, he arrived at City Y and spent the night in a family friendly hotel that he’d chosen for the week.
The very next day, he went over to pick up the twins with a bright smile and sunny demeanor whilst the housing agency handled the issue about their home.
Things weren’t so rosy on the Chen family’s side.

RIIIIINNNGGG!
Very early in the morning, at 3:00am, Chen Meili woke up to the ringing of her phone. After answering the call sleepily, she sprang up from the bed, fully awake.
This movement woke up Han Tao and he quickly rushed to place one hand on the special one’s shoulder and the other on her stomach before saying softly, “Be careful. What happened?”
Chen Meili stared at him with terrified eyes. “Brother Tao~ My elder brother…”
A hour later, all the Hans arrived at the hospital Chen Bai was admitted in.
“Mother!” Chen Meili shouted and rushed forward to hug her crying mother.
At the side, Father Chen was conversing with two policemen. Han Tao naturally walked over to join them.
All three policemen exchanged nods and Han Tao turned to Father Chen. “How exactly did this happen? Any suspects yet?”
Since Han Tao was indirectly related to the Chens, he couldn’t be involved in the case but there was no harm in asking that question.
Father Chen looked from the policemen to Han Tao with red eyes and a face that seemed to have aged a hundred years since last night. Suspects? That could be anyone. Ranging from their business rivals to elites that they weren’t on good terms with.
Also… He was aware that his son had some dealings with the underground mafia but was he supposed to tell that to the police? Of course not. Besides, could this thing be the work of the mafia? It seemed very likely.
Chen Bai was still in the emergency ward but from what he’d seen earlier, only hardened criminals were capable of heartlessly dealing such harm on a fellow human being.
In the end, Father Chen placed his face in both hands. “It could be anyone. Anyone. I have no idea. I can’t think of any suspects.
-Although there are a few business rivals and people who aren’t on good terms with us Chens. Surely, they wouldn’t go this far…”
The policemen eyed each other and Han Tao. How far a person could take a little dispute, they knew all too well but they said nothing. Instead, “Mr. Chen, how about you give us the names of these rivals? Nothing is set on stone and a little questioning wouldn’t hurt.”
Father Chen rapidly called over a dozen names.
After getting the names, the policemen nodded. “Thank you Mr. Chen. We promise to get to the bottom of this case. Kindly notify us when Mr. Chen Bai is awake and fit to see visitors. We’d like to ask him a few questions too.”
“Definitely.” Father Chen said with a firm nod and the policemen walked away.
The entire hall turned silent after that with the cries of Mother Chen and Chen Meili filling the ears of everyone else as they looked on with pity.
At exactly 9:45am, the emergency light on the door of the E.R turned off and an unconscious Chen Bai was pushed out on a stroller by two nurses, followed by an exhausted doctor.
Mother Chen practically flew over to grab the stretcher. “Bai’er! Bai’er!” She turned to the nurses. “What’s happening to him? Why is he still asleep?! Hasn’t he been treated, why isn’t he awake?!”
Father Chen walked over to grab his hysterical wife. “Mo Bi, that’s enough. Let’s give them a chance to speak, hm?”
Mother Chen’s screams quietened to a sob.
The doctor sighed in confusion. “We’ve gone through Mr. Chen Bai’s medical record and he never seemed to have a case of brittle bones.” Staring at the confused look in the eyes of everyone, he continued, “What I’m saying is, it’s possible that Mr. Chen Bai would never be able to make use of his legs again.”
“AH!” Mother Chen screamed in shock and covered her mouth with both hands whilst Chen Meili directly plopped to the ground. Fortunately, she was caught in time by Han Tao.
On the other hand, Father Chen gulped and slowly walked closer to the doctor. “What.. what do you mean?”
The doctor shook his head. “Since he is still unconscious, the height of the damage is unknown. We would have to wait until he woke up to know more.”
And then he left with the nurses pushing Chen Bai behind him.
Mother Chen lost it and sprinted after her son whilst everyone else just stood still and tried to digest the shock.
One week later…
Chen Bai was still in coma. The Chen mansion turned bleak and the Hans were also affected by it. Chen Meili walked around the Han home listlessly and although she visited her parents from time to time, she didn’t stay long over there as it did nothing but make her depressed -which wasn’t good for her pregnancy.
Seeing his beloved’s state, Han Tao felt raw heartache and decided to spend more time at the police station. Since he couldn’t be involved in the case, he kept himself up to date however he could and tried to assist as much as he could in order to catch the culprit and make his fiancé happy again.
Although Han Tao had good intentions, unfortunately, it didn’t translate well. He spent more time at work so he didn’t have as much time to spend with Chen Meili. This also meant that their bedtime life became nonexistent and due to being tired all the time, he hardly lasted five minutes.
On the second week of Chen Bai’s coma, Gu Longwei was on his way downstairs when he caught sight of Chen Meili entering Han Jinhai’s family wing.
Since she moved out three weeks ago, she hadn’t gone back there so he was curious and followed her.
In the room, Chen Meili sat on the bed, staring straight at the wall.
This was what Gu Longwei came in to find. He walked closer to sit next to her. “Meili, are you alright?”
Chen Meili blinked in surprise. “Uncle Gu?” She laughed dryly. “Ah, I’m fine.” Gu Longwei frowned and she hesitated before sighing. “It’s just that… Brother Tao has been spending more and more time at work lately.
-Nothing is being said about our marriage and with all that happened to my elder brother, I have no one to comfort me.”
Her eyes suddenly widened and she laughed it off. “What am I saying? Brother Tao works so hard so it’s only normal that he would be late a few times.”
Chen Meili had aired her worries, how could Gu Longwei fall behind? He held her shoulders and pulled her in for a sidehug. “One thing you shouldn’t do is find an excuse for selfishness. You’re better than that. Besides… Even if Han Tao isn’t here, don’t you still have me?”
Chen Meili blushed a little and laughed. “How could it be the same? Brother Tao is my future husband..”
“Of course.” Gu Longwei said quickly and slowly lowered his hand to rub circles her thighs. “No one is disputing that fact but a marriage would never be a happy one if both parties aren’t satisfied.
-You try to be understanding of Han Tao but… Who’s going to be understanding of you, hm? You worry over his needs and wellbeing. Who’s going to worry over yours?”
Chen Meili sighed. Uncle Gu had a valid point. She was a 27 year old woman and had needs too. Her eyes trailed to the hand on her thighs. It’s been a good while since she was sexually sated.
Han Tao wasn’t particularly lacking but -her mind flashed to those times when Gu Longwei had handled her- compared to Uncle Gu…
