- Chapter 288 My Sister-In-Law Is My Surrogate 47
In the banquet hall, every single guest walked about socializing. A good lot of them gravitated towards Han Yuanjun but the man in question exchanged pleasantries with a select few before grabbing Fu Lan’s hand for a dance.
The people seeking cooperation naturally understood this was their cue to leave the man alone and were a little discouraged until… their eyes trailed to the Han Madam on her chair.
Han Yuanjun might be in charge of the company but when it boiled down to it, the true decision maker in the Han home was the Han Madam.
They all decided to move to the Han Madam with smiles.
“Madam Han never fails to disappoint, looking as stunning as always.” A Madam from a lesser known family said.
“Wasn’t it just yesterday when the triplets were born?” Another one added. “Now look, they’re already a year old, soon they’ll be talented grown ups pushing the Han family to even greater heights.”
These were all things the Han Madam liked to hear so she had a big smile on her face. Her Han family had been getting more and more obscure in the world of the elites until the birth of the triplets.
Those who had dared to think it was the end of the road for her family had had no choice but to swallow their own tongues in regret. Hosting banquets like this and watching them try to mend broken bridges was now one of her favourite ways to pass time.
She sighed. The Chen girl was truly a blessing in disguise. And to think that they all let her waste her time in the Han family all these time without putting her to good use…
Min Yanyu, Han Rong, Gu Longwei and the rest all had people trying to improve relations with them so everyone had bright smiles on their faces.
After receiving enough praises, Min Yanyu moved to the stage and tapped on the mic with a bright smile. “Alright everyone. It is finally time.” She turned to the stairs leading directly to the podium. “Let’s welcome… the future Heirs of the Han family and, of course, their wonderful parents.”
A round of applause filled the hall as Han Tao and Chen Meili appeared at the top of the grand staircase. Seeing how wonderful they looked, envious eyes naturally found their ways on to Chen Meili.
Han Tao was, afterall, a very handsome man. Even if the man had decided to forfeit the Han inheritance to his children in favour of being a policeman, he was still a great catch.
A lot of the elite ladies had been taken by surprise when they attended the welcoming banquet of the triplets months ago and found out that Han Tao had already married Chen Meili.
No one knew what happened to the his wife before and the twins that rumours proclaimed seemed more like myths since no one ever saw them.
An elite lady in particular, Luo Wenjia, glared fiercely at Chen Meili. It was already a slap on her face when young master Han had left all the elite ladies to marry a no name orphan flower shop cashier but what could be said about marrying Chen Meili?
That woman had as much value as a thrifted shoe so what did young master Han see in her?
Her own family was currently struggling so compared to other ladies in the hall, she, Luo Wenjia, was the worst dressed in the banquet! Why could a used woman like Chen Meili wear such a pretty dress and have such a handsome man?!
Seeing the doting looks in the eyes of the Han family members as they stared at Chen Meili, Luo Wenjia wringed her wrists in anger. It was really unfair! Chen Meili had already managed to bag one Han man but when he died, she still remained and snatched another one from right under their noses.
The greedy bitch!
Her eyes trailed to the three babies held by three servants behind Han Tao and Chen Meili and her mind wandered. If only they were hers. If only young master Han was hers. She looked around the beautiful hall.
Must be nice to be married to an heir and have the knowledge that everything would belong to her childrens in the future…
Up on the stairs, Chen Meili was too busy looking around the hall for Xu Lifen’s figure to care about a random Luo Wenjia. When she couldn’t spot Xu Lifen, she felt a little downcast.
Seeing this, Han Tao thought she was still sad about the attitude Chen Bai had given her. He placed a hand on her lower back and whispered. “Do not think about it anymore. I’ll handle it.”
He really would. He was planning to have a good talk with Chen Bai after the banquet. The man had caused his own accident by dealing with questionable people so he had no right to make Meili feel awful.
In fact, he was supposed to be grateful to Meili. If not for her, his criminal self would be in jail.
Staring at Han Tao’s reassuring look, Chen Meili blinked in confusion before realizing what his words meant. She smiled, lowered her eyes and whispered back. “Thank you brother Tao, I really don’t know what I would have done without you.”
As soon as Han Tao smiled, she went back to observing the hall in disappointment. Although a high percentage of the ladies present gave her envious looks, their envy gave her no satisfaction.
She had spent a great deal of time being jealous of Xu Lifen in the Han home and now, she wanted Xu Lifen to regret. She wanted to see Xu Lifen’s eyes redden in envy. She wanted Xu Lifen to feel just how she felt when the woman had waltzed into brother Tao’s life and snatched him away!
Too bad…
Well since Xu Lifen was absent, Chen Meili grit her teeth in regret and focused on the banquet. Although it was no longer enjoyable, it was in the honour of she, Han Tao and their triplets so she would try to enjoy it.
The hall was filled with cheers and good music as both Han Tao and Chen Meili steadily walked down the grand stairs. When they reached the halfway point though…
BANG!
Every single person in the hall flinched in shock and turned to the large double doors at the entrance of the hall in surprise.
Under the confused gazes of everyone, He Yuan calmly stepped into the hall with a bright smile on his face. Since the Hans wanted Xu Lifen’s attention, who was he not to give it to them?
The Han Madam opened her mouth wide at the mere audacity whilst Chen Meili frowned. With Xu Lifen’s noisy entrance, the attention of everyone had smoothly moved away from her and Han Tao!
From the entrance of the hall, He Yuan locked eyes with Chen Meili and then… he raised a brow and gave a very provocative smirk.
Next, he held his head high, maintained eye contact with one or two nearby guests to exert dominance and then elegantly walked across the hall to the champagne fountain.
In the mind space, 888 had no idea when he began smiling uncontrollably.
As soon as He Yuan reached the fountain, he calmly grabbed a glass of champagne, took a sip and then turned around to face everyone once more. “It appears I’m late. Pardon me.”
Some guests recovered from their surprise then.
A daughter turned to her mother to whisper. “Isn’t that Young master Han’s wife- I mean, ex wife?”
Another elite turned to whisper to a friend. “This Xu Lifen does not look bad at all! I can see why young master Han had married her despite her lack of background.”
“She’s here alone,” Yet another elite pointed out. “Does that mean the Hans specifically invited her?”
Luo Wenjia’s eyes brightened. If Xu Lifen truly received an invite, even after divorcing young master Han, did that not mean that Chen Meili’s place in the Han home was not as secure as she thought?
She clenched her fists. Although she hated both Xu Lifen and Chen Meili, if she were to choose, she would rather Xu Lifen had young master Han than Chen Meili. This was because Chen Meili was an elite like the rest of them.
When young master Han had chosen Xu Lifen over them, they had been angry but since Xu Lifen was a no name, it could be called true love. It was no shame to lose to true love.
On the other hand, for a used woman like Chen Meili, who was also an elite like the rest of them, to be able to snatch young master Han from his alleged true love…
That was a slap to all of their faces!
Another elite looked at Xu Lifen from head to toe before ‘muttering’, “In the end, did the so called twins truly exist or was the pregnancy reveal back then just an attempt by the Hans to seem relevant due to their lack of heirs at the time?”
The Han Madam was trembling from rage at this point. She looked at the woman who had spoken last. Good! That woman was never going to be invited to any one of the Han banquets ever again!
She looked to He Yuan and was about to slam her walking stick on the ground when she suddenly paused. Xu Lifen was a crazy woman. If they forcefully dragged her out, it was possible that the idiot would open her loud mouth and say things she was not supposed to!
Subconsciously, the Han Madam turned to glare at Chen Meili. This was her idea!
Chen Meili flinched and looked to her husband with a wronged expression.
Han Tao automatically placed a hand on her lower back and frowned at the Han Madam before looking at Xu Lifen with clenched teeth. The woman looked so much better than when he’d last seen her but, unfortunately, her personality was as awful as ever.
The fact that she’d even walked in here without the twins angered him even more. He wanted to have her thrown out but, knowing Xu Lifen, she would cause a huge commotion and might even go as far as to tell the entire hall full of people about the fact that he had signed away his rights to the twins.
Although he did not regret doing so, if such an information were to get out, it would not look good on him. Worse, Chen Meili might be blamed and called an evil manipulator when she had absolutely nothing to do with it.
After taking a deep breath, Han Tao turned to his wife. “Don’t give her the attention she seeks. Just ignore her.”
Chen Meili slowly nodded and they continued walking down the grand stairs.
Now although the Han Madam, Han Tao and a lot of other Hans had figured out that it was best not to trigger Xu Lifen, not every member of their family had common sense.
Hearing some not so kind whispers around her, Han Jiao held her dress and marched towards Xu Lifen with a vengeance. When she got close enough, she glared. “Xu Lifen, you know the reason you were invited and yet you had come here late and all alone, acting like you own the place!”
He Yuan merely smiled and said nothing.
Seeing this, Han Jiao angrily reached out to grab the glass of champagne from him.
He Yuan’s eyes flashed. He subtly sidestepped and extended a foot to trip Han Jiao causing her to
CRASH!
Right into the champagne fountain behind him.
“AAAHH!’
