Queen Kohra - 21 21
Kohra
I watched as Sephira and Lesker lept over the palace walls into the city. I was passing by the corridor and I just happened to see them.
“Anor?” I called out, stopping in my tracks. My shadow guard leader appeared before me on her knees.
“Your majesty, you want me to follow them?”
“No. Sephira is too smart for that. Have the shadow guards in the city look over them. I’m going to the royal physician. Don’t follow me in. Go now”
“Yes your majesty”
Anor returned to her shadow form and I continued on my way. I reached her door and knocked. A middle aged woman answered the door. She gave a bow when she saw me. I nod in response. She ushered me in to her quarters.
“What brings you here your majesty?”
“I’ve been having some strange symptoms nowadays. My magix is undulating and I feel feverish. Could you check what’s wrong with me?”
“Sure. If you would give me your hand….”
I stretched out my hand and she took it. I felt her magix wash over me and search my body. I used my magix to conceal my heart. Nobody should know that yet.
“It seems you’re pregnant but it’s more complex than that. Your body seems to be rejecting the baby but the baby is fighting it. I’ve never seen something like this before. I’ll have to research a bit but I’ll give you some tea to relax your system. You should really take it easy this period your majesty”
“Thank you. I would go and inform my mother now”
“Alright your majesty”
I leave her and start walking to my mother’s quarters. I stop at the corridor that I saw Lesker last and pat my stomach.
“Hang in there little one”
Anor appears in front of me, looking at me strangely.
“Are you well your majesty?”
“I’m just a bit indisposed. You have something to report?”
“Yes. They seem to have gotten in trouble and are running towards the palace now”
“I trust you would take care of it then. I’m going to see my mother”
“Your majesty” Anor said and disappeared again.
I wondered what type of trouble they had gotten into but I had more important things to worry about. I knocked on my mother’s door and waited for her to answer.
“Kohra darling, it’s you. Come in. I was just talking to your father”
“Father’s here?” I ask, surprised as she pulls me in.
I hadn’t seen my father in years. He always kept to himself and I didn’t know what he was doing.
“Father” I greeted with a bow. Despite all odds, I loved my father. In fact, Lesker reminded me so much of him. They were both so shy and they loved to study.
“Kohra, my dear. How are you?”
“I am well father. I haven’t seen you in a while and I’ve missed you”
“I missed you too darling. I was actually at your wedding but I couldn’t let the council see me. I returned to discuss some things with Kitari”
“Alright”
My parents were no longer together. My mother fell in love with Sephira’s father so she divorced all her other husbands. My father returned to his home town, where I heard he was living peacefully.
“So Kohra, what are you here for?” Mother asked, offering me tea. I respectfully declined her offer.
“I came to tell you both something important. Since father is here, I’ll save myself the trouble. I’m pregnant”
“Oh darling, that’s such wonderful news. We ought to tell the council right away”
“No mother. Now’s not the time to be the council’s puppet. There’s more to this. Father, if you will….”
“Sure darling” he replied and waved his hand. An invisible barrier covered all three of us. That was my father’s magix, cloaking.
“Remember that time I went missing when I was younger?”
“Yes. You gave me a heart attack. Your mother almost had my head”
“Well I lied about where I was taken. I was captured by Muni. Do you know what a divine spark is?”
“Yes. It’s a spiritual seed that grows in the body of a mage that connects them to divine energy, giving them the ability to ascend” my father answered. I smiled at that. My mother was still confused.
“Why are you talking about this Kohra?” she asked.
“Yes, why are you talking about something that hasn’t been seen in two thousand years?” Father added.
“Because I was born with a divine spark. It was ripped out of me by Muni. I suffered by her hands and was tossed back to Terria by one of her servants. The man that brought me back was the one who took care of me and healed me. His name is Anak and he’s the Dragon Emperor”
Mother clutched her chest and covered her mouth. Father was shocked and I could see hints of pain in his eyes.
“Kohra…Kohra” mother kept repeating my nane and checking my body. Father was frozen in his seat.
“How could I have missed that? I’m such a foolish bad father. I dared to call myself a scholar when I couldn’t even see facts in front of me. Oh, Kohra”
“Father, mother. It’s okay. Relax. I planned to never tell you this and the fact that I would die in a few years but certain factors have changed that. My pregnancy is being affected by the hole created by the forceful removal of my divine spark. At this point, I and my child would die.
If we die, Muni would be rid of us and nobody would know what she had done to me. They would assume I died during childbirth. I’ve accepted my death a long time ago and it saddens me that my child would also go through this. Perhaps it is better if the child was never born”
“Kohra! Don’t talk like that. I can save you…we can save you and your child. I’m sorry my child, I never knew you were suffering so much” Mother sobbed, placing her hand on my cheek. I gently removed her hand.
“What can you do against a goddess, mother? I just have a request. Protect Jeir, Sephira and Lesker. Marry Lesker to Jeir if I’m gone. That’s the only way to protect him. I love you both so much”
“Kohra! Don’t talk like that! I’ll find a way to save you” Father yelled at me. I’ve never seen him so mad. I could only smile and portal away.
I stood in the middle of the throne room. It was nice being Queen. I made all the changes I wanted to and I could improve Ataliya. It was the greatest achievement of my life. I could die happily, though I never got to explore the cosmos.
“Kohra, you’re so weird today. You’re so out of it, you didn’t notice I was in front of you. What’s wrong with you?”
“Jeir, it’s so like you to disturb my peace”
“Nice to see you’re still the same grumpy you. Now, tell me why you’re like this”
“I’m just a little indisposed. Leave me alone to rest”
“This isn’t your room, is it?”
“You aren’t Queen, are you now?”
“Tch, so touchy” Jeir said and moved away. A smile touched my lips. In a few years, she would be Queen, if I passed away. Her mother was the former Queen after all.
The large doors of the throne room opened and Lesker walked in with a guilty expression. I stood from my chair and went to meet him.
“Did you have a good time?” I whispered in his ear. He blushed and nodded.
“Good”
That was the last thing I said before I fell unconcious.
