Queen Midknight: The Wolf’s Bride - Chapter 177
Chapter hundred and seventy seven: Queen Midknight.
Jamie entered her room and cut herself out of the white dress. She wasn’t a widow anymore and therefore there was no need to wear the ridiculous white dress.
Afterwards, Jamie ran for dinner. She watched as the maid looked at her like she was supposed to be thinking of something other than food right this moment.
“I want freshly baked bread, fresh milk directly from the cow’s udder and potatoes not the type that tastes like cow’s dung…are you even listening to me” Jamie told the young maid.
She blinked and she looked like she was sorry to have not been paying attention.
“I am sorry, your majesty. I will get your food right away”
The maid started to walk away but then she stopped midway and turned around to look at Jamie.
“You are going to get him back, right your majesty?” The maid asked.
Jamie was confused. Was she supposed to be getting anyone?
“Get who back?”
“The King…you are going to match over to the Midland and retrieve our king, right?”
Jamie watched her face. The maid was serious and she appeared worried.
Jamie wondered why everyone started putting their faith on her and her abilities. Was she a rascal improper Queen who has no regards for rules and traditions of Aradale?
This felt unfamiliar and it didn’t make any sense.
“What makes you think I can get the king away from the clutches of the midlanders?” Jamie waited patiently for the answer, half expecting the girl to stutter and hasten away from her but she was surprised by the maid.
The maid turned around and for the first she looked Jamie in the eyes. Jamie could see the pride and the mustered bravery in her eyes.
“I know you will get him back because you are the Midknight warrior” The maid came even closer and whispered to her
“We all know that you competed in the tournament of Knights and came out victorious…”
Jamie wondered who was peddling the rumours.
“But you know I am not a knight?” Jamie quickly chipped in.
“Yes, it’s why we are calling you the Midknight warrior…b-because you are not a knight but you are not ordinary either” The maid concluded.
“Who is ‘we’?” Jamie queried with a puzzled expression.
She had never been describe with so much pride and elevation before.
The maid pulled up the sleeve of arm to show a mark.
“What’s that on your forearm?” Jamie queried and took a step closer to her.
“It’s the mark of the night. I am one of your followers, your majesty”
“I have followers?” Jamie looked even more confused.
“Yes! Yes! Tales have been going around about the Midknight Queen who took up an army against all odds, defeated seven Kingdoms in one night and saved a dying hemisphere…”
“Technically, I defeated three kingdoms in a night not seven…” Jamie tried to correct her but there was no desuading the girl. She loved the myth more than the truth.
“You are legendary, your majesty! You make me dream…you make all the girls in Derkal dare dream to be more. You are a beacon of hope and I know for a fact that you will singlehandedly resue our king and put the midlanders to shame. My alligeance is to you, oh Queen!”
The maid knelt before her and lowered her head to her feet.
Okay, this was awkward for Jamie, so awkward that for a moment her mind was blank.
She knew that people of Aradale loved bowing but kneeling? That was taking it to a whole new level.
“Thank…you?”
It sounded more like a question more than a statement.
Jamie wasn’t planning on letting Rosemund sacrifice herself to save the man they both love but knowing that there was a following…a secret cult of young girls looking up to her as role model and a goddess made her feel the weight of the burden on her shoulders.
How could she disappointed them? Well, she was Jamie. She always found a way to make people see annoying side of her.
When she looked down the girl was still kneeling before her.
“Hmmm…you May stand up now…this is not awkward..at all. But I am going to need that food, I am quite famished. I need my strength to scale through the mountains and valley and rescue the king because I am the Midknight…”
Jamie had a smolder and a heroic look on her face and her hand raised up high.
“There is no mountain in the Midlands” the maid reminded her while looking at her like she was being ridiculous and weird.
“Right” Jamie murmured. “But I am still hungry”
“Yes, your majesty”
Jamie shuddered just a little bit. She couldn’t wait to tell Alexander that she has a cult now.
She went back into her room and changed into an appropriate male tunic and pants. Normally, she would be telling Rosemund on her plans to invade the Midland in the night when they least expected her and free her husband.
Soon, there was a tap on the door and Jamie opened it. It was Heavens holding a bag and hurrying inside to shut the door behind her.
“I have everything you need my Queen” Heavens said and dropped the big bag on the table.
Jamie came closer. She didn’t remember telling Heavens that she needed something.
“Of course, you do but…what exactly do I need again?” Jamie asked.
Heavens opened the bag for Jamie to see the content.
“I have arrows, daggers, a few swords…”
Jamie blinked and interrupted her.
“You have weapons in that big bag! Why?” Jamie wanted to yell but she ended up just whispering it.
“You are going after the king!”
“I am?” Jamie asked her.
“Are you not?” Heavens dimmed her eyes.
“Of course I am but when did I become so predictable!” Jamie said and threw her hands in the air.
“Do you know I have a cult, Heavens?”
“Yes, they are called the night watch or my personal favorite, the Queen’s midnight warriors” Heaven said and closed the bag as soon as there was another knock on the door.
Heavens opened the door, it was the maid. She was carrying a tray of food.
“Thanks Ari” Heavens took it and shut the door behind her.
“Your food is here, my Queen”
Jamie ate heartily and she did her best not to think about it.
She was once again behaving rashly. Invading the midlanders to rescue Alexander wasn’t just lunacy but sucidal too.
Heavens watched the Queen while she ate. She considered herself lucky to be able to do so.
The young maid realize just then that she would give her life for Jamie in an instant and it didn’t even terrify her.
“Are you frightened, your majesty?”
Heavens wanted to know whether she was allowed to be afriad herself. She needed Jamie’s indirect permission to acknowledge that she was terrified.
Jamie took a bite from the bread and chewed slowly as she pondered Heavens question.
“I am. But I think I am more frightened of not doing anything. Heavens, one day I hope you find someone you would be willing to die for because that, my dear girl is rare”
Heavens stared at her intently “I have”
Jamie turned sharply to look at her. She got the message Heavens convened.
She was surprised.
Heavens stood up and took some feminine product and placed it inside the bag.
“Why would I need a comb and a lip color, Heavens?”
“You have to look like a Queen when you see the king”
Jamie laughed.
Soon, she was done eating and she was headed out the door with the big bag. Jamie needed to get to the packhouse and ask for the wolves help. They were the secret weapon. They should have a cult themselves except nobody can ever know of their existence.
Jamie made it all the way to the packhouse to talk to them. She met Judd, Walters, Jared the royal councilor, Ursla and her brother there, Elliott there. Jamie was horrified.
“Elle, what are you doing here?” Jamie asked her brother.
Elliott tried to explain how he came to know of the werewolves.
“Jamie, I don’t..”
“Wait! I can explain. They are not going to hurt y-you!” Jamie didn’t let him finish.
“Jamie, if you give me a minute to talk…” Elliott started again but his sister interrupted him.
“T-they are special. I won’t let you hurt them!” Jamie was saying when she saw Semeen approach them.
Elliott was tired of being cut off. So, he went with the simpler option. He grabbed Semeen and he kissed her passionately just to shut his sister up for a minute.
“Woow! What is going on?” Jamie screamed.
“I told him. I hope you don’t mind that I like your brother, Luna” Semeen asked her as soon as her mouth was free.
“It is going to be awkward, I think but somehow I will muddle through. You know Elle is annoying, right? You can do better than my annoying brother, Semeen” Jamie whispered to her.
“Hey! I can hear you, Jamie” Elliott screamed at her.
Jamie laughed. And then she addressed everyone.
“I am going after my husband and your Alpha. Who is going with me?”
