Queen Midknight: The Wolf’s Bride - Chapter 180
Chapter hundred and eighty: The mad king.
Rosemund realized very late that she hadn’t seen the Queen for hours, not since she made the declaration of her impending marriage to Ernesto’s son in exchange for her brother’s release. She expected Jamie to be in her room trying to talk her out of it or Judd fussing over her and threatening hell fire if she doesn’t call it off but so far, there was no Jamie or Judd.
So far, she was alone in her room trying to stop herself from calling whenever the feeling of dread descended over her whenever she thought of her impending nuptials.
Her weak stomach had made her throw up at least twice in the past hour and she could see the look of disgust in her maid’s face whenever she had to clean up her mess.
“Open the window, maid” Rosemund asked the girl who was almost two years older than her.
The girl wondered silently when the princess would ask her about her name instead of referring to her as maid. It infuriated her, she didn’t need the constant reminder of her status and moreover she has been the princess lady’s maid for over two years.
Rosemund laid on the bed and tried to pull herself together.
“Find the Queen and tell her I need her” Rosemund murmured to the girl.
She needed to see Jamie but more than ever she needed her maid to take her judgemental face and her judgemental body away from her for a moment, so she could breathe properly.
The maid bowed and left. Few minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
“You may come inside”
The door opened and instead of Jamie, her maid walked inside.
“I asked for the Queen” Rosemund was looking at her maid.
Heavens came forward.
“May I have the privilege of speaking to her royal highness alone?” Heavens voice was down and her eyes were staring at her feet.
“Leave us” Rosemund ordered her maid.
The girl was glad to.
“Now, talk. Where is my sister?” Rosemund asked her.
Heavens saw the stain on her clothes and the stench of her room and she knew immediately that the princess was going through a rough time.
She turned around and walked into her bathing room and came out with a bowl of water and a rag.
Rosemund watched the younger girl, the way she was parading around in her private chambers without asking for permission.
She watched her as she brought the bowl and rag closer. She dropped it on the table close to her bed and without asking she sat on her bed.
“What do you think you are doing, Maid?” Rosemund managed to get out of her shock ridden voice box.
Heavens dipped the rag inside water and started wiping the stain from her dress.
“My name is Heavens, your royal highness and I am cleaning the stains on your dress”
“Oh” Rosemund’s voice was suddenly mellow.
“I throw up too when I am nervous” Heavens tried to empathize.
“Where is Jamie?”
Heavens dropped the rag and looked at her.
“Don’t panic, my princess”
Those words alone made Rosemund sit upright and she was very close to panicking.
“Where is Jamie?”
Heavens looked at her and she answered.
“The Queen went to the Midland to rescue the king. I am sure she would be here any moment from now”
“I didn’t sign off on any battalions to match the Midland, Heavens….”
“She went without an army, Milady”
Rosemund pushed herself out of the bed and she threw up again.
Heavens pulled her hair up so it wouldn’t once again be filled with vomit. Afterwards, she led her to bed to get some rest while she cleaned up.
“Sorry for the mess” Rosemund apologized.
“No apology necessary, my princess. The Queen will be fine, you will see”

Jamie watched as he regained consciousness. She knew it in the way he watched her. She wrapped her arms around him and she vowed not to let him go again.
“I am losing my mind, Jamie. You should have left me in the Midlands, Monisha”
His short black hair that was usually neatly combed to the back and was everywhere and sticky with wet dirt.
He seemed to have shrunk in height or was it the way Jamie gathered him into her arms like he was an infant?
“Why would I do that? I am going to fix you, Alexander” She whispered into his ears.
She remembered how she first described him when she first saw him.
She had thought what a beautiful devil he was with his sculpture-like chiseled jawline and distinctive straight nose. It made Jamie smile, she touched his jaw, he was still the most beautiful man she had ever seen even in his disarray.
Alexander looked at her. Taking every effort to hold her gaze.
“I won’t let you. I would rather put a blade through my own chest. I know everything. The woman in red told me”
Jamie focused on his confusing eye colors. Right then it was more blue than green.
“When I first met you, your eyes confused me” Jamie totally ignored his revelation.
“They confuse me sometimes too. They can’t make up their mind” Alexander answered, noting that she was deliberately avoiding his relationship.
Jamie stared at his high cheekbones looked man made and too perfect, his lips delicious and tempting. She smiled out of nowhere.
“A penny for your thought, Monisha”
Jamie pulled rogue strands of hair behind her ear.
“I was just thinking of your lips. How I would give anything to kiss you right now. It’s ridiculous” Jamie blushed.
She took her hair out, so she could hide it from every other person in the carriage.
Alexander touched her cheek, just rubbed his weak finger along the axis of her face, caressing it.
(I would prefer to have thoroughly scrubbed to perfect cleaness and maybe without audience but hey! Go for it, brave girl)
Jamie smiled and lowered her lips into his. She could sense Semeen and Judd look away but Zuri didn’t seem to mind at all.
At first she kissed him softly then the neediness and the heart breaking fear of the past week came flooding back. She tried to brink back tears and she tried to pull away but he stopped her.
Before Jamie could object his tongue was in her mouth, again.
Jamie tried to touch his body as the familiar sensation swept through her almost leaving her limp and senseless. She couldn’t stop the tears anymore than she could stop him from kissing her.
Alexander knew she was overwhelmed. His perfect girl, his ferral obsession and he stopped kissing her, just allowing her tears to touch his face.
He looked up hoping and merely wishing to see some appearance of visual pleasure like the one he felt but all he saw was her sadness.
“I thought I lost you, iubi” Jamie whispered to him.
“Iubi?” Alexander queried her “Did you learn a Romani endearing word for me, Monisha?”
“It’s sees only fair, my love. Iubi means…”
Jamie was interrupted by Alexander.
“I speak perfect Romani. It means lover. I like it. I would like it more if you stopped crying” Alexander wiped her face with the back of his palm but he ended up leaving dark smudges there.
He realized too late that his hand was firithy like the rest of him.
“Stop crying, please”
“I can’t help it”
Judd and Semeen were becoming more uncomfortable with the display of affection between the Alpha King and his Queen.
Judd especially had run out of places to fix his eyes.
“Oh, that’s it! Stop the carriage”
When the carriage jolted and stopped. He grabbed the prison and tried to leave the carriage.
“He is mine!” Jamie yelled at him.
“Yes, he is your prisoner and I will keep him safe until I return him to you. But for now, just keep…. doing…that with my bro…my king. Are you coming Semeen?” Judd asked and came down from the carriage.
Semeen exhaled. She couldn’t wait to get out too.
“I am!”
The carriage became devoid of intruders and the little restrictions the couple had disappeared into the thin air.
Jamie kissed him again. This time around she told him everything her voice couldn’t. She let him know how lonely she had been for the past week, how terrified and sick to her stomach and how she had to be brave through it all because of him.
Even though Alexander was weak himself, he accepted all the burden and placed it on himself.
He kissed her again. He especially liked it when he tried to take away his lips but she wouldn’t let him.
They made sense in an imperfect world. They made sense together even when outside forces keeps trying to ripe them apart, even with their flawed beginning and wasted time.
Alexander and Janessa made sense even when they shouldn’t.
“You are my greatest love story, Alexander”
She whispered softly to him.
