Queen Midknight: The Wolf’s Bride - Chapter 181
Chapter hundred and eighty one: I love more than your body.
My little tigress!
Alexander thought in his head. He had no idea where the strength came from. He simply knew that she needed him and he would be damned if he didn’t show up.
it all but overwhelmed her senses as it sought some unreachable terminus near Jamie’s core.
His hands started to wander on her body and he couldn’t get enough of her no matter how much he tried.
His inexorable mouth was parting her shaking lips again, sending untamed tremors along her nerves, evoking from her sensations she was familiar with.
Alexander stopped before he could take it further.
“I am not making love to you, Jamie” his baritone voice was firm. There was no room for discussion.
“I am sorry, Alexander but you will. You keep forgetting that I am a witch and I can make you do anything I wanted” Jamie whispered amidst the tears on her face.
“But you won’t. I know you Jamie, you will never do anything to hurt me. I am so sure of it that I can bet my life on it, Monisha. So, no more threats. You know how much I hate them” Alexander managed to stop Jamie’s head from thinking about more threats.
“You are selfish, Alexander. You are bloody selfish. You are willing to sentence me to live in this world without you, when you can’t imagine yourself doing the same. You are so bloody selfish”
Jamie straightened her clothes and knocked on the door of the carriage for it to stop.
“What are you doing?” Alexander reacted badly and grabbed her hand without thinking.
“Let go of me!” Jamie yelled at him.
“Let go of my hand right now!”
Alexander didn’t.
“Please, don’t leave…please” his voice was shaky and his body shook just a little. Jamie was too angry to notice any of them.
“Give me a good reason to stay!” Jamie asked him.
Alexander let go of her hand finally. He wondered how he would say out loud what he was feeling without looking like a coward.
But then he remembered that she was Jamie and she would never judge him.
He cleared the fog at the back of his throat. He could also feel the wetness of his eyes as they were filing with tears. Alexander tried to keep his mouth pressed together to stop them from trembling.
“I am…terrified, Jamie. Don’t leave me because I am not as….brave as I used to be. I am frightened right to my soul a-and I am not sure about anything anymore except you. Don’t leave me on my…. don’t leave me alone”
He didn’t finish when Jamie moved closer and pulled him to herself.
Alexander’s head rested on her chest as her arm went around him holding him, comforting him.
She didn’t know he was crying until she felt the wetness on her clothes and that he was trying not to tremble.
Alexander tried to hold on to the person he once was. The brave courageous man who would walk through fire and come out victorious.
But he wasn’t brave any more and the courage he used to have had deserted him. This fire was now an inferno and he was going to be burnt to crisp.
“It’s me, Alex. Let yourself feel everything and don’t hold back. I love you, Alexander”
Alexander took her advice and he let go. He buried his face in her chest and he allowed himself to feel the pain of his impending death.
He shook with the violence of a leaf caught in winter and with the pain of a man sentenced to death.
He looked up after a while at her. They held each other’s gaze. Jamie ran her fingers in his black hair while she still glued her eyes to him.
Her perfect husband!
It was the first time she had seen him this vulnerable and she was happy that he was comfortable around her to feel it.
Jamie lowered her lips and kissed his forehead, like he was an infant with a fatal illness and she was his guardian angel.
So tender were their feelings for each other that it was almost raw.
Alexander knew at that moment that he could admit his greatest fear and tell his truth all at the same time.
“I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die because I still have a lot to do. I am yet to see Rosemund grow up and find love, I need to make sure she is going to be o-okay without me. Judd needs to let his walls come down and he needs to admit his feelings for Eileen and I need to be alive to make sure he does it. I want to see our children run around and frustrate us because let’s face it, they are going to be terrible – they would inherit their mother’s unawareness of the dangers of the world and her selflessness. And it will get them into a lot of trouble and I need to be there to bail them out. T-there is a lot I didn’t do, a lot I should be doing….”
Jamie held his face.
“Let me heal you Alexander” Jamie pleaded with him. “Let me heal you and you can have everything you have dreamt of…please”
Alexander shook his head.
“No. No. Drop it! It’s not going to happen” Alexander’s voice was firm again.
Jamie wanted to say something but there was a knock on the carriage door. She used her body as a shield to prevent the knocker from seeing the king like that.
“We are here!” Judd announced and opened the carriage door.
“Where are we?” Jamie asked him.
“We are in Trinity. Councilor Jared has offered his home to the king and you to get the king in order. We will leave for Aradale by sunset” Judd informed them.
“Thank you, Luther” Jamie murmured to him.
Alexander grabbed her hand.
“Send for our sister…just Incase” Alexander spoke to his brother.
“No, nothing is going to happen” Judd insisted.
Jamie knew she didn’t want to appear like she had given up hope but she wanted Alexander to have everything he wanted starting from Rosemund.
“Judd, you should send for Rosemund. She will never forgive both of us if she wasn’t given the chance….and maybe Eileen too. This family should be complete, don’t you think?” Jamie held his gaze until he nodded.
“Alright but I am telling you that nothing is going to happen…you will see” Judd agreed begrudgingly at last.
“Can you walk, Alexander?” Judd asked his brother.
“Yes, I can manage. Do you think I am going to be carried in my kingdom like an infant, brother?” Alexander asked him but Judd didn’t back down.
Being carried wasn’t a bad idea, his whole body was still aching and the injuries the silver gave him were healing very slowly…too slowly. Max was taking a nap for the first time in days and he wasn’t going to be of much help.
“Are you sure?” Judd asked him again.
“No. I feel like I have been to hell and back. Do you mind giving me a hand, little brother?” Alexander finally accepted his limitation.
“Thought you will never ask!” Instead of carrying him out, Judd helped him on his feet and supported his body with his own.
Soon, Lucinda May was holding the door open and Alexander was being dragged inside with Jamie behind him.
” Your highness” Lucinda May bowed as the king passed.
Alexander gave her a slight nod of acknowledgement.
“Do they know what I am?” Alexander asked his brother.
“Not really but Jared has been to the packhouse. He didn’t ask any questions” Judd answered.
Alexander grunted. He was too tired to care about his secret.
Jamie took off into the forest in search of a healing leaf. They were out of season but she hoped to find a stem or something and she did.
Jamie approached her prisoner, Prince Zuri. He was tied to the tree and three wolves were standing watch over him.
He still looked nonchalant and he was still bleeding.
She took her blade and she freed his hands from the tree.
“Don’t even think of escaping”
Zuri nodded like she was offering him food instead of threats.
Jamie exposed the stab wound on his thigh. It was still bleeding slowly.
“I need clean water and clean rags. Also ask Lady Lucinda May for a pain portion” Jamie ordered one of the wolves.
The beta Wolf hesitated, he was reluctant to leave his Luna with a traitor.
“Just go, he won’t hurt me”
The beta Wolf started running towards the house.
“Everyone is overprotective of you, lady” Zuri told her.
“I am protective of them too. Hold still… this might hurt” Jamie told him and exposed the wound on his thigh by pulling away the fabric of his pants that was now attached to the injury.
Zuri closed his eyes as the pain went through him but he didn’t say a word.
“Were the two of you always like that?” Zuri asked her.
“I am not discussing my marriage with the man that tried to kill my husband” Jamie murmured and sat on the ground as she waited for the clean water and rags.
“I have never seen a married royalty like you and his Highness, lady.. I think I am jealous” Zuri closed his eyes again while Jamie watched him.
