Queen Midknight: The Wolf’s Bride - Chapter 186
Chapter hundred and eighty six:The woman in Red 2
Destiny!
Jamie could feel the liquid in her veins turn icy. Her nostrils flared as she took a step forward towards Red.
The hostility emanating from her made the dream world she created become smaller. It was like the angrier she was the smaller the world became.
“I thought I was going to die”
Even though Jamie’s inside was boiling with rage, when she spoke, her voice was calm and low like she was whispering.
“I had no idea that you would choose to die instead of separating them. I mean who dies for anyone in these dark times!” Red yelled but mostly out of frustration.
Now, it was Alexander’s turn to talk. He was still trying to make sense of everything himself.
“So, I could have been making love to my wife for weeks now but you made me think I was going to kill her if I did? I was celibate for over a month, you little turd when I could have had the woman of my dreams in my arms every night and you took that away from us!”
“I just wanted her to be rid of your beast!” Red admitted.
“But whatever has Max done to you?” Alexander asked her. “Did my wolf do anything to you, Witch?”
Red grabbed Jamie’s hand roughly.
“You can still do it. You owe it to the world to separate the king from the Alpha. For the sake of our survival, do it! Kill them both or leave them!” Red told Jamie.
Jamie could see that she was frightened, genuinely frightened and she feared that Red was once again keeping something from her.
“You’ve not told me the real truth, have you? What is your name?” Jamie asked her
“You can call me, Red. You have always called me that”
“I want your name!” Jamie finally raised her voice.
“I go by the name Red but long before that….” Red’s voice trailed off and she closed her eyes.
Jamie watched as she transformed into a totally different person.
Jamie felt her breath caught in her throat as her eyes widened. Since breathing through her nostrils was becoming impossible, she used her mouth.
She took a step back and another and another until Alexander’s solid body kept her from going back further.
“Do you know her? What’s going on?” Alexander asked her.
“I don’t want to be here anymore! Wake up! Wake up!” Jamie yelled until she opened her eyes and she was back to the riverside house.
Alexander was lying beside her and he was unconscious. Jamie tapped him gently on the arm and he opened his eyes.
Jamie tried to hug him since she was overwhelmed by feelings but Alexander stood up and he went to the window.
“Alexander….”
“You know the woman in red, don’t you?” Alexander’s eyes hardened and narrowed into slits.
Jamie stood up too. She was suddenly exhausted. She moved closer and she hugged Alexander from behind and she rested her head on his back. She felt comforted.
“I…I..I am so sorry” Jamie buried her face in his back. Alexander could feel the vibration of her quivering breath and the wetness of her face on her back.
He was angry and she was sad. And she was his wife.
So once again, he placed his own feelings into a little box and he turned around to tend to Jamie’s own. He hugged her as she cried. Just held her until the sobs and the trembling started to subside.
“Talk to me, Monisha” he whispered in a voice that soothed Jamie too.
Before Jamie could open her mouth to say something, there was a knock on the door.
Alexander watched his wife as she quickly wiped her face before he went to the door and opened it.
He hated the intrusion. If they were in his castle, no one would dare intrude on him.
When he opened the door, Alexander was momentarily frozen.
Red was standing in front of him.
“Is she here?” Red asked him “I know she is inside. The tracking spell led me here”
Alexander was yet over the shock of seeing the woman who wanted him dead standing in front of him, when she pushed past him into the room.
“Stay away from him!” Jamie yelled and took a step back.
“Jamie, hear me out” Red pleaded with her.
“What is going on here?” Alexander asked out loud.
“She is….she is” Jamie couldn’t get the word out.
Red turned around and faced Alexander.
“I am…My name is Lisabeth and I am…”
“She is my mother, Alexander”
Jamie finished the sentence for her.
Alexander blinked, exhaled and rubbed his forehead almost at the same time.
“You are Janessa’s mother?”
“Yes”
“And you want me dead?”
“No. I just want your wolf dead. There is a difference” she answered.
“That is so screwed up but hey….it happens, right. At least now I see where your daughter got her manipulative side from, Lady Lisabeth” Alexander told her.
“Call me Beth. You are married to my daughter after all”
Jamie watched the both of them. She watched as Beth came closer to Alexander and placed her hand on his chest and started muttering the separation spell.
“North, south ,east….”
She grabbed the heavy vase on the table and she broke it on Beth’s head. She slumped into the cold floor.
“What are you doing?” Alexander asked her.
“Tie the bitch you. And find something for her mouth too” Jamie grabbed the door handle and tried to leave but Alexander stopped her.
“Jamie, stop!”
“She was trying to kill Max. She was reciting the separation spell. Don’t forget that she is a beast mistress too. The oldest one there is. So tie her up until I figure out what to do”
Jamie opened the door and left. Alexander noticed that Beth was carrying a bag. He took it away from her and he grabbed the rope inside the wardrobe.
He hated the idea of tying a woman up but he hated losing his wolf even more.
“Sorry” Alexander murmured and tied her up.
Jamie walked into the forest. She was trying hard not to cry. Why should she? Her mother almost made her kill Max and she just tried to do it herself just now.
Jamie approached where Prince Zuri was tied up. He was leaning against the tree and his eyes were closed.
“I am thirsty” Zuri told her.
Jamie turned to watch him. Who knew how long she stayed in the dream world?
Jamie turned to one of the wolves “Give him water and food!” She barked at him.
The wolf turned and left.
Zuri watched the Queen. He knew that something was wrong.
“Trouble in paradise?” He asked her.
Jamie was mute.
“You are angry” Zuri told her.
“And you are my prisoner. Shut up!”
Jamie walked away.
She was by the river when Alexander approached her.
“I have been looking for you” Alexander told her and sat down beside her.
“Oh well, now you’ve found me” Jamie said sarcastically.
“How are you doing?” Alexander asked her.
“Did you tie her up?”
“Yes. And I hated every moment of it” Alexander answered.
“Don’t. She tried to kill you” Jamie murmured.
“She’s your mother!”
“She tried to kill you!” Jamie yelled back at him.
Alexander kept quiet. After a while he spoke up again.
“When did you see her last?”
“You mean when she broke my father’s heart and abandoned my siblings and I? Well, I will be twenty years old by next week, So…. twenty years. I was an infant when she left. I only recognized her from the portrait and the dream I had of her” Jamie answered.
“I am sorry” Alexander murmured.
He knew what it felt like to have Darius as his father but even Darius didn’t abandon him. To have a parent up and leave without looking back would leave a hole in any child’s heart and he was sorry the child had to be Jamie.
“Don’t be. I am alright” Jamie insisted. “We are going to force Lisabeth to tell me how to merge you and your wolf”
“Don’t. I can’t trust you or her anymore, Jamie. I just can’t. You lied to me. You always lie to me. I love you but right now, I can’t stand to be around you” Alexander stood up and so did Jamie.
She touched his arm. Her eyes were filled with tears.
“I had to try and save you, Alexander. You can’t fault me for doing that” Jamie told him.
“I can fault you because I explicitly told you I didn’t want to be saved if it would cost your life” Alexander answered.
“I don’t see why you are angry. I am alive, aren’t I?” Jamie didn’t understand what was going on with him.
Alexander stared at her like he wanted to pick her up and shake her out of frustration. He even imagined it but he could never hurt Jamie and so, he turned around and he walked away.
“The carriage leaves for the Castle in an hour. Be there, Janessa”
Jamie stayed by the stream a few more minutes before she made it back to the riverside house.
Beth was waking up when she entered inside.
“Jamie…my child”
Jamie picked a chair and dragged it to where her mother was and she sat.
“You and I, Lisabeth, we are going to have a talk.. You are going to tell me how to save my husband without killing his wolf. Do that or I will hurt you…badly”
