Queen Midknight: The Wolf’s Bride - Chapter 187
Chapter hundred and eighty seven: Unifying Chaos.
Jamie and Alexander sat inside the large carriage with the king’s siblings, the prisoners – the Queen’s estranged mother and the crown prince of the west.
Rosemund knew there was something wrong with her brother and his wife. For one, they were sitting so apart like they would rather be somewhere else than in each other’s presences.
Especially Alexander, Jamie was making an effort by slanting towards him but his highness stayed as far away as possible.
Soon, they were entering the Aradale Castle and at first Alexander didn’t understand what the noise he was starting to hear was all about until he opened the carriage window.
Alexander had never seen so many people in the hemisphere’s capital before, each waving at the carriage or holding a leaf. They were celebrating his return.
He was puzzled. Since when did the West start liking their King? Then just like a very poorly plotted revelation, the answer came to him – since he met and fell in love with the most unusual woman on earth.
“Did the likes of you arrange this?” Alexander asked everyone in the carriage.
“Did we go to their homes to drag them out of it so they could adore you and sing your praises? I believe we did no such thing, brother. We wouldn’t want your head to get any bigger” Rosemund answered and smiled. She was enjoying her brother’s uneasiness and Judd tried not to as he looked away.
“Your family is a miracle. You all seem to genuinely like each other” Zuri commented.
“Your majesty, please inform your prisoner that he may be fortunate enough to be in this carriage but it will be in his best interest to be silent unless spoken to” Rosemund’s countenance changed immediately.
The idea of occupying the same space with the man that would have become her husband If Jamie wasn’t the most reckless person she knew, was angering at best.
“Zuri, do you ever think of shutting the hell up!” Jamie yelled at the hostage.
“Yes, Lady” Zuri answered “Shutting the hell up”
Alexander dreaded it as the carriage jolted before stopping at the base of the stairs.
“Judd, you will take the prisoners out back. We are not going to reduce ourselves to the pettiness of showcasing the capture of our enemy to the crowd” Alexander instructed his brother.
“Yes, your highness”
Jamie cleared her throat loudly and glared at Alexander.
“Last I checked, Prince Zuri is my prisoner not yours. And such, I will be making all the decisions about him, your highness” Jamie grabbed Zuri’s arm.
Alexander moved closer to her and he whispered his answer.
“Last I checked, I was King and my word was law….”
“He is my prisoner!” Jamie stated through her clenched jaw.
“And you are my Queen. Your loyalty is to me and just to be clear, it wasn’t a request. Fucking get your hand off of the prince and save yourself some humiliation, Janessa”
Jamie turned to watch him. Since when does Alexander speak to her in that manner? Was he so angry that he didn’t even bother to take her feelings into consideration?
“I said take your hand off of the prince or the next order I will give, is for your mother’s head to be brought to me on a platter for treason and crime against the king. Decide fast, dear, I am gradually running out of patience” Alexander watched her closely.
Jamie nodded and spoke to the king ” Your highness’s word is law and I am but a humble servant”
Alexander kissed her cheek gently and said out loud “Don’t be ridiculous, you are my Queen, dear. Shall we?”
Alexander offered his arm to her and he saw her hesitation before she took it.
“I love you. You can push me away all you want but that’s not going to change and I won’t stop trying to help you” Jamie whispered to him as they got down.
“Then I am afraid that my character will just worsen with time my Queen until you get it into your stubborn head that I don’t want you to help me and until I can trust you to do my wishes, I will continue to keep you at arm’s length” Alexander answered her.
“I am comfortable with being at your arm’s length, iubi. It’s quite comfortable” Jamie smiled like she wasn’t just give an ultimatum by her husband as they stepped down on the ground.
There were cheers and hailings from the crowd.
“She is our Empress!”
Jamie heard the crowd yell out loud. Wait! They were here for her? It made Jamie stop walking for a second but Alexander urged her to keep walking.
“Keep walking, Monisha. You can’t let them see that the praise is getting to your head, now my love” Alexander encouraged her.
Jamie kept walking but she did whisper back to Alexander “Why should I dim my light for them, your highness? It’s not everyday, a second Princess from one of the smallest kingdom in Derkal takes her army to war, defeat her opponent and made your ungrateful behind, emperor!”
Alexander was taken back but he was amused too but above all, he was proud of her but she took a risk he needed her not to take again and so, he hid the pride from her.
“He is our Emperor!”
The crowd yelled again.
“See, they have some praises left for you, your highness” Jamie told him as two little girls approached them with flowers.
They offered them to Jamie and she took them with a bigger smile on her face. One of the little girl grabbed a single white flower from her basket and she turned to Alexander and she gave it to him.
Flowers signified love and even the chanting stopped as everyone watched to see what the king who hated displaying any kind of emotion in public would do.
Was the devil of Aradale capable of accepting a token of affection from his subjects?
“Ha! Your move, your highness…. everyone is watching” Jamie seemed excited as she waited for his reaction.
Alexander surprised everyone when he lowered himself and picked up the two little girls and started walking into the castle.
“He is our emperor! She is our Empress!”
The crowd went wild at the unusual behavior from the king.
“Show off” Rosemund chuckled and interlocked her hand with Jamie’s and together, they started walking towards the castle while Alexander walked in front of them.
Jamie entered her bed chamber eventually and she slumped on the bed. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Great! now she has to face both her father and her siblings about Lisabeth.
How do you tell a father and siblings that the woman that abandoned them was staying within a riding distance from Namura?
Jamie stood up. It was better she got the whole family reunion over with and get to the business of getting a cure for her ungrateful husband.
Jamie almost bumped into Heavens as she exited the door.
“Milady!”
“Heavens, it’s great to see you. I need you to tell Sir Judd that I want Lisabeth brought to the Queen’s tea room, immediately”
“Yes your Majesty” Heavens turned to leave but halfway she spoke to Jamie “Welcome home, your majesty”
“Thanks, Heavens”
Jamie walked faster. And soon, she was knocking on the bedchamber Arabella was currently occupying.
“Bella, it’s me. Open the door”
Jamie waited patiently as the door opened and Arabella came outside.
“Do you ever think before acting because you certainly didn’t when you went to the Midland without telling anyone!” Arabella screamed at her.
“I told our brother” Jamie answered.
“It doesn’t count! Elliott is like you, he doesn’t think things through either” Arabella told her.
“Can you chastise me later? Right now, I need you to get Papa and Elliot to meet me in the tea room. Please, Bella, I have something important to tell you…all of you”
“Okay”
Jamie walked away and she waited for her whole family in the tea room. She paced and she sat down and she paced again.
What was taking Arabella so long to get everyone here?
Soon, the door opened and her family matched inside. Elliott looked like he was woken from sleep.
“What took you so long?” Jamie asked her sister.
“I was gone for five minutes, Jamie”
Jamie decided to move on from the matter.
“Papa, Elle…I have something to reveal to you. During the course of my journey back from the Midland…”
Jamie was interrupted by her father.
“Remind me to snap your neck later for allowing your sister to attack the midlanders, Elliott!”
Jamie blinked ” Elle did not allow me to do anything! I am Queen and this is my kingdom!”
“And you are my daughter!” King Jared reminded her.
Jamie exhaled and calmed down. This was not the time to enter a screaming match with her overprotective father.
“Papa, listen! I found Mama. She is in Aradale with me” Jamie told them.
At first, Nobody believed her. She couldn’t possibly know what Lisabeth looked like as she was an infant when she left.
“Jamie, I don’t think…” King Jared’s voice trailed off as he saw his estranged wife walk inside bounded by chains.
“Lisabeth?”
