After much difficulty, Li Na later fell asleep, but not long after, she suddenly woke up and looked out the window, The skies were already bright and there were dark clouds hovering in the skies making the atmosphere chilled, she turned to look at the other side of her bed was empty. Clearly, Little Tiger was missing. She propped herself on her elbow, her eyes circling the room before it turned to look towards the bathroom. She silently tried to hear some noise from behind the door but the bathroom was as silent as the rest of the room. Where is Little Tiger? It could be his condition didn’t stable and Lu Jianjun had rushed him to hospital. She could only think of the worst instance of Little Tiger went missing.
Li Na was awake in an instant and she instinctively ripped her blanket off over her and jumped out of the bed, and ran out of the bedroom bare-footed. Coming to stand on the resting between rooms she walked towards the rial and stopped suddenly to look at the view of the hall beneath the staircase. The hall room was blistering with noises, Lu Jun-hui, Bai Tain, Butler Wu, and Master Lu along with Madam had come over.
Her eyes scanned over until it fell on the little frame of the boy sitting on the sofa amidst all people hovering near him. She studied Little Tiger’s form and his complexion looked normal as some color had returned to his face. Seated beside Madam Lu, he looked relaxed and calm and intently listened to the old lady’s talk.
Li Na heaved a sigh of relief, she stood there on the spot for a while, then turned to returned to the room. But as she turned she thought of Lu Jianjun and the memory of their last fight came all over once. She pressed the side of her forehead and felt disordered, an outburst of disappointment clouded her head as she remembered Lu Jianjun’s uncertainty about her pregnancy. She didn’t know what to make out of it.
Li Na turned back and her gaze lingered on the pleasant little boy thought it was good that she was sure one thing, Little Tiger is the uttermost priority of both his parents. And that must be enough for now until she sorts out a way to truth.
Li Na went into Lu Jianjun’s room where all her stuff was arranged. She thought of coming face to face with Lu Jianjun as she didn’t saw him downstairs but he wasn’t there in the room. The bed was empty and so was the room. Thinking about having to go to the GQ for Bai Tain’s movie project, Li Na quickly bathed and got ready in her comfortable clothes. Just as she stepped out of the walk-in closet, her eyes fell on the unwrapped boxes placed at the corner of the cupboard. She frowned seeing them, she hadn’t known of them as these were the boxes which were packed by the servant when they had brought Li Na’s stuff from her previous house before she woke up in hospital bed. Butler Wu had placed them and told her to unwrap them. She had gone to look at most of Li Na’s stuff except for these three boxes yet. Making note of at least checking them once she gets free who knows what information she could find about Li Na in that remaining stuff, she shouldn’t miss finding any clue.
She opened one of the drawers and grabbed a wristwatch and shut the cupboard. While tying the wristwatch around her left wrist over the tattoo such that the band will cover the complete name under her wrist she stepped out of the walk-in closet. She heard the sound of the doorknob unlocking, she looked up to see Lu Jianjun entering. He was dressed in his office clothes though his blazer was missing, he stepped into the door and walked forward two steps. He saw Li Na at the frame and instantly paused in his steps.
The two of them stood about two meters apart, neither of them spoke first. Li Na pulled the strap off her wrist and locked the belt, Lu Jianjun’s eyes dropped on her left wrist as he remembered her tattoo of his name.
“Would you like to remove it?” he asked out of sudden and Li Na frowned looking at him, then her eyes followed his gaze on her wrist and it clicked to her that he must be talking in the context of the tattoo. Well, she never wanted it in the first place.
“Of course, I do! isn’t it look childish and embarrassing to have a name engraved on your skin,” she replied with all honesty, while also thinking if she ever wanted to be so childish it was for sure, not for Lu Jianjun’s sake but someone else from her past. But who is she to complain over some else’s body. Lu Jianjun’s brows knitted to hear the sincerity in her aversion of having it.
“It is permanent, right!?” Lu Jianjun questioned as he walked towards his side of the closet and open a cupboard of files.
Li Na said in low voice, “Yes, looks like a deeply inked one,” Had Li Na re-inked the tattoo at some point? she wonder, the words were as clear as written on paper.
Lu Jianjun gave her slight nod and said, “I’ll arrange for the special procedure that uses lasers to remove or lighten the ink under the skin, just tell me a day ahead when you’ll be free to go through it.”
Li Na sharply turned to take a look at the oblivious man standing at a distance from her, she was confused if he was genuinely helping her setting some kind of trap or it could be that the tattoo of his name bothered him more than her. She hummed in response, and Lu Jianjun glanced thoughtfully at her. They beheld each other at the same time, none of them had any underlying plans or malice. Their intentions were crystal clear for the first time, they both agreed on something, and they stilled for a while staring disbelievingly at each other. Li Na had never tried to look at things from his perspective as she did now with her what-ifs. For a man to have a woman he doesn’t want to chase him madly how would it feels like, somewhere she knows that feeling where you have lurked into a relationship when you never have thought of having one but the degree of unwontedness was cruel and savage in Lu Jianjun’s case whereas, he didn’t have the choice and she volunteered for her feelings.
Then as the seconds passed, the disbelief in Lu Jianjun’s eyes started to fade, the changes in her were so evident for him, he couldn’t ignore her no matter however he tries to think. She is not the one he wants her to be as he perceived the thought all of sudden savagely violent emotions exploded into life in him but he clouded them within seconds and asked, “Li Na? Would you like to go out with me tonight?”
Shell-shocked, Li Na’s lovely eyes widened at his unexpected words, has she mistakenly heard it or has he actually dared to ask her out. Wait! Wait, he’s trying to trap her or mess with her. With glimmering fury in her eyes, Li Na crossed her arms and didn’t respond right away. It couldn’t be yesterday night they were fighting over the similar issue where she’d demanded the rightful position for herself when he outrageously rejected her. Now suddenly he wants to take her on a date…how exciting!
“Are you asking me out?” she asked curtly.
Lu Jianjun swallowed hard, but he couldn’t blame her for doubting him. He’d never taken a woman taken out on a date so never there was a situation for him to ask a woman out. Suddenly, he felt his heart hammered in his chest under her scrutinizing gaze. Has he said it the wrong way? What was wrong? His tone of voice or word of action? he wondered. Then he unsteadily replied, “Yea, something like that, only if you like to go out…”
Her eyebrows raised delicately and slay smile came to form on her lips. “So you’ve finally decided to take pity on me!” she chided the guy who didn’t let go out, was now asking her out.
He frowned at her. “What pity? I” then it down on him, she was mocking him. The corner of his lips twitched, gnashing through his teeth he muttered, “Li Na, take it easy! I’m not bluffing here.”
“Then why so sudden change of heart unless you’ve some ulterior motives!” Li Na gazed at him for a while not letting herself to fall into his any traps.
Lu Jianjun’s lips set into a thin line. Why is this woman so difficult to please? it was a stark moment of clarity that he remembered how strong-headed she is, why has he taken her for granted that he’ll ask her to go with him and she would agree easily. “Fine, then don’t come,” he then started to walk out towards the study room hoping she would change her mind. But as he walked past her, Li Na had no change of heart. she had not taken him for granted so she won’t agree to whatever he says without a proper reason. Now she was sure there is a reason why Lu Jianjun wants to take her out and he’d to give that to her otherwise there’s no venture between them.
After that, Li Na went downstairs and firstly she greeted the two elders respectfully before greeting the other two men. Bai Tian was awkward to greet her back meanwhile Lu Jun-hui gave her impolite murmurs, Lu Jun-hui seems to be still in a bad mood because of their last banter where Li Na had used harsh words to send the nagging Lu Jun-hui away. As for Master Lu, he replied cheerfully but Madam Lu remained oblivious, pretending not to hear her greetings.
Li Na felt strange towards Madam Lu’s attitude, it is the first she’s meeting Lu Jianjun’s mother and the woman was hostile that she never returned her gaze, her focus on Little Tiger and her husband. Is Madam Lu mad at her? What wrong has she did now? Li Na wondered but then brush it off. The lady was not even close to what she thought of Lu Jianjun’s mother to be. Strangely unlike the resemblance of Little Tiger and Lu Jianjun was inevitably similar features it was the opposite as Lu Jianjun didn’t resemble any of his parents she’d hope from the lady but she turned out to entirely different persona. She noticed some features matching with Lu Jun-hui soft to eyes but not as strikingly attractive as Lu Jianjun had. He’d completely different charm in the family, she began to doubt what if he is the adopted one.
They didn’t speak, not even looking at each other, as though they were two strangers, even the surrounding atmosphere was distant.
But the atmosphere between the men was. lively. Master and Madam Lu praising Little Tiger’s mannerisms and Madam Lu was in awe of her grandchild’s calmness. When Little Tiger was told about the elders visiting him after knowing he fell ill last night. The boy got up and showered and dressed up with help of Butler Wu without disturbing any of his parents and when they arrived he came downstairs with his father to greet them.
Master Lu was so happy with Little Tiger he couldn’t help but compare his childhood with his own.
“Well, at Little Tiger’s age, Lu Jun-hui used to dance without clothes in front of all relatives whoever comes to meet him it was a big hassle to get him in the dress.” everyone erupted into laughter and Lu Jun-hui’s face turned red with embarrassment. “Kid are supposed to be difficult, ” he muttered lowly and threw a nasty look at his father.
“Yes, they are, Baby Tao was a little clumsy, though he too was a dancer.”
Lu Jun-hui smiled and said,” Yea, we were the gypsy kid dancing club.”
“You both were a mess and annoying in childhood. But I can’t get over my Little Tiger, he eats this well and is not being very picky. This little gentleman is definitely gonna grow up strong and healthy.” Madam Lu said with a prideful tone.
Li Na too smiled when Little Tiger was praised and then she went near to checked Little one’s temperature and she asked lightly, “Baby, have eaten anything? Should I cook something for you?” Little Tiger’s eyes shone brightly hearing about her asking to cook for him.
He instantly nodded forgetting that it wasn’t long before he’d eaten the breakfast made by Madam Lu for him. It was as if his appetite immediately revoke which wasn’t the same as before when he’d very little of that bland food.
Li Na smiled and tousling his messy curled hairs she went to prepare his food. Madam Lu watched their interaction, for a moment she was stunned to see them interact so smoothly, she noticed the changes in Little Tiger as the boy was like a blooming flower as if his sun has shone over him. Little Tiger was always intolerant towards strangers and mostly to women, the only woman he could bear to be around was her, and that too bare minimum level. But now His eyes held a joyfully lustrous when he looked at Li Na. And most of it, Li NA too showered the same love and affection on him, dare she think more Li Na had more zest for the boy. Madam Lu felt all too surreal to believe it to be good.
Just when Li Na got up, Madam Lu said, ” It wasn’t an hour Little Tiger had his breakfast and medicine, while you were sleeping I had personally cook for him.” she said with a frown deliberately making it sound carelessness on Li Na’s part for sleeping until late.
“What if his stomach gets upset?” Madam Lu added looking at the little one with conflicting eyes. She saw his expressions saddened at the notion. He looked over at Li Na for a decision on his behalf. Since yesterday’s after listening to Li Na’s talk on his health he wholly believed her to be the master of his health, he will follow whatever she asks him to.
Whereas Li Na had a puzzling look like wondering over something, then she looked at Madam Lu and asked, “How much he ate?”
Madam Lu felt baffled at first then replied mustering some confidence, “He finished the whole bowl of hot soup,”
Li Na smiled knowingly as only she knows her son and said, “Oh, then no issue, Little Tiger usually have the appetite of three bowls and a glass of juice.” but out of respect for Madam Lu, Li Na didn’t mention his full course when she cooks for him. Little Tiger is in his growing age, the more he eats the better for his body, anyways the boy is too lean it’s better he put on some weight the more the better.
Little Tiger smiled and nodded when Madam Lu looked at him and asked, “Is it true?” the woman was left bewildered when Little Tiger carefully stepped down from the sofa and then walked towards the kitchen following behind Li Na, he was bored with so many people hovering around him.
As Li Na had her back towards the hall room when she turned to walk, she stopped when she felt a light tug on her hand. She looked down to see a little finger wrapped around her palm then her eyes traveled up to the boy’s cute little face that held an inquisitive look of admiration in his eyes.
Stunned, Li Na stared at him for a while, marveling over the little wonder in her life as her gaze traveled down she noticed his open feet without socks though he was wearing cozy slippers she was displeased he’d recovered fully yet to roam in free air like this.
“What are you doing here?” she asked grabbing his hand firmly when she felt his body temperature which was normal.
Little Tiger blinked with an innocent look and replied in his gibberish with broken words, “T-Toming wi-th you t-to took,” Li Na bit the inside of her cheeks to stop herself from laughing, he’d sad ‘coming with you to cook’ her full-blown smile was enough to convey her amusement he was too darn cute for his own good. And she was now beginning to understand his language.
Whereas everyone else gaped at the little guy’s action and words, Li Na took his every effort to her heart and picked him up in her arms she felt his weight light. “You little sweetheart, you want to cook?” she asked baffled. She didn’t have the heart to break his heart when it is the first time he expressed his desire to participate in an activity. What a sweet little angel!
He nodded in reply. Being held in her embrace Little Tiger felt giddy his mood lightening up so much he feared somewhere in his mind as not to disturb the lovely setting like he usually did in his father’s embrace like fidgeting with Lu Jianjun’s shirt button, clutching on her collar or shaking his legs Little Tiger silently held his two hands together with eagerness such that they won’t go on playing on their own and he looked at Li Na with clear eyes and smiled delicately like a graceful child.
Li Na had the lovely hearts in her eyes when she gazed at him he was all wanted and needed in the mess of called her life. “But first, my love before we dive into cooking I need to cover you more, you’re too precious to caught chills and fall ill again,” she lightly pinched his red nose which was cold to touch, his baby pink lips pursed together as LI Na took him upstairs in his room.
She placed Little Tiger on the bed and went to rummage through his closet. Little Tiger looked down at himself and felt to be satisfied with the clothes he was wearing, navy blue pullover soft woolen sweater over a white crisp shirt with standing collar paired with soft, comfy cotton-rich material chinos with trendy roll-up hems near his ankle. He was covered from top to bottom except for face, hand, and feet and she still felt he wore little and need covering. Little Tiger scratched his head wondering where to fit extra clothes while making his head he would wear a headband if Li Na insist. Whatever she likes!
“Baby, we need to go shopping soon, your wardrobe has to be updated, it lacks variety,” said Li Na when she stepped out of the closet she liked his clothes but he needs to look like a kid and not some grown-up clean and neat look of a man. He has obviously taken after his father with his choice of color in clothing, he is of age to flaunt baby color to dark deep one all in the spectrum why settled with a certain range. Little Tiger gazed at her, a slight frown appeared on his forehead he’d never gone out shopping before, everything was arranged for him before he could demand by the men in his family.
“Sit down.” Li Na demanded and he immediately sat on the edge of the bed. She placed some articles of clothing by his side and picked one of the socks pair. Bending down she removed his slippers before lifting his delicate feet, for a moment Li Na felt amused by the tiny size of feet perfectly fitting in her palm she’d never tended baby as it was a whole different feeling of tenderness. Babies are a treasure and among them, her Little Tiger was a priceless gem! she thought caressing his feet sole, and Little Tiger suddenly giggled and the leg in her grip twitched. She looked up hearing the mesmerizing voice of his laughter and in a casual move did it again. He giggled again.
“What! Are you feeling ticklish?” she teased the boy as he giggling he tried to free his leg from her, only to feel her grip tightened. She lightly ran the tip of her finger on his feet’s sole and the boy couldn’t hold it back the twitching as the tickle ran through his nerve. Seeing his futile struggles of kicking in the air, Li Na laughed and he too laughed out loud kicking his leg and his upper body fell back on the soft mattress due to the overwhelming sensation as the play went on. she hovered by his side on the bed picking up his sensitive spot as he rolled on the bed neither wanting to get nor able to contain the overwhelming emotions. He’d never laughed so much before. Li Na usually stops to le breathes and then again went to play with the kid.
“Oh, my baby is sensitive to touches, how cute!” she chided and softly grabbed his shaking shoulder and pulled him towards her. She dearly hugged his shaking body from laughter before her palm went running over his back as to soothe his nerves. He gradually calmed down, resting his head on her chest he too hugged her back like a koala bear. The contentment and easiness on his features put on the bright smile on lips as relaxed. In the silence they both held each other with warmth, Li Na bent down to place a kiss on his downy head and he chuckled. All little food he’d eaten was being digested and his empty stomach growled lightly. Both of their eyes went wide, Little Tiger looked up alarmed and Li Na looked down with raised eyebrow, “You little punk, you haven’t had a proper breakfast, you lied,” Little Tiger instantly hid his head in the crook of the neck and giggled. “Let’s go and fill your tummy,” she said and sat up getting him ready.
On the door, Lu Jianjun stood there leaning against the frame as he watched the duo having fun. He was working in his study when simultaneously racking his head over Li Na as to how should he convince her to go out with him tonight when he’d told his friend he’s bringing the date to the party. Then he suddenly heard Little Tiger noise, confused if it was from his bedroom he got up and rushed to check on his boy but then he was greeted with their fun and display of affection. Lu Jianjun shook his head studying the woman with an intrigued look. He needs to take lessons from her on how to win hearts.
Lu Jianjun straightened from the doorframe suddenly an idea struck him which might help him in his endeavor. He cursed himself for doing such a lousy job when he asked her out, he could do better than that.. His lips curled up when he thought about her reaction.
