Butler Wu knocked on the study room lightly, Lu Jianjun acknowledged the knock with a faint, “Come in,” he looked up to see the Butler empty-handed. A while ago, Lu Jianjun had asked for a cup of tea but then Butler returned with folded hands.
“Anything wrong, Mr. Wu?” Lu Jianjun asked the quiet Butler.
“All is good, Young Master! ” the Butler replied to assured afterward he seemed to be hesitant of saying something. While Lu Jianjun continued to add, “Then, say whatever it is, Has mother send you to…”
“Oh no, Madam Lu said nothing, in fact, she went to visit Second Master and Master Bai’s house.” Butler Wu clarified knowing Madam Lu and Lu Jianjun don’t get along very well, it’s not just that Lu Jianjun ignored both his parents and tried to keep a minimum of contact with them, it was only for Little Tiger’s sake do his parent’s visit him. It wasn’t that their relationship was never improved, it never started to begin with.
With a strange history of the Lu family, Butler Wu never ascertained fault in any of his masters. But ever since Little Tiger was born, the boy had changed many in the family.
” It was Miss Li who had called you for the breakfast,” Butler Wu choose the easy words out first and instantly saw the impact of it in Lu Jianjun’s action.
“Hm, So you’re prioritizing Li Na’s ordered before mine,” Lu Jianjun looked up and Butler lowered his head so he didn’t pursue the matter and added, ” Anyhow, I don’t see the problem why you’re so hesitant to say it,” Lu Jianjun replied, as he opts to wind up his work, closing the file and keeping the pen down he was about to get up.
“Miss Li had also asked Elders Lu’s to join the breakfast…” Lu Jianjun paused, his fist clenched around the pen showing his reluctance to be in a large company. What is she trying to do? Have a family get-together! He definitely didn’t believe Li Na was trying to impress his parents or something like that. The girl is too focused on Little Tiger to be swayed by any other motives. Her actions within the family were all derived from the aspect of Little Tiger’s up-calibration. Lu Jianjun didn’t want to join the breakfast now. But then Li Na’s face from the morning flashed before him, he’d already enraged the lady and want to mend it. If now also he refused, his action would definitely resolve to her that he doesn’t take her seriously.
Lu Jianjun replied calmly though he’d to muster a lot of energy to say, he murmured, “That’s fine with me,” then he walked out of the study. The response shocked Butler Lu, he was sure Lu Jianjun will deny the offer but then it was from Li Na. The thought of her presence in the dinner washed off his worries before he followed the Young Master.
When Lu Jianjun entered the dinner, his gaze fall at the head chair of the table, where Master Lu sat peacefully eyeing at the news headlines of a newspaper, Master Lu was particularly happy with Little Tiger, who was seated between the two elders and beside Madam Lu, Lu Jun-hui and Bai Tian was talking among themselves.
Lu Jianjun’s gaze shifted swiftly to set upon the girl. Li Na was seated alone at the other side of the table, leaving a chair empty beside her which was diagonal to Little Tiger’s chair. His lips pressed into a thin line. Lu Jianjun wanted to sit as far as away from Elder Lu’s but then momentarily, his eyes locked with Li Na’s curious one. She was startled, obviously not expecting him to come then she relaxed.
Lu Jianjun wondered if something happened in his absence which made her stressed. He was about to move then held back by her gaze and it was as if she’d perceived his indifferent action, her gaze focused on him.
She looked to be deep in thought, then she came back to senses, moving her gaze to her right side and back to him, an indication of his saved seat.
Lu Jianjun took a quick follow before focusing his attention back on Li Na, his gaze staying a while longer, seemingly in a struggle. In the end, he turned to walk on the opposite side away from her.
Li Na’s eyes dropped, she was told by Butler that Lu Jianjun doesn’t go well with his parents and both sides tried to keep a distance but then she was feeling too left out with Lu Jun-hui acting hostile and Bai Tian ignoring her along with Madam Lu’s focus on Little Tiger she thought it would be less awkward for her to have Lu Jianjun present here. She doesn’t know how to communicate with his parents which would be better for Little Tiger. But now she was sure Lu Jianjun will prefer taking the empty seat beside Bai Tian than sitting next to her. Obviously, Lu Jianjun must be angry over their banter in the morning.
Li Na let out a sigh when she looked up, a flustered look flashed across her eyes. She silently watched Lu Jianjun pulled the chair beside her left side, which made her lips pursed. Lu Jianjun’s hand paused then muttering something under his breath, he walked few steps and reached out to and sat on her right side, on the reserved chair.
Appalled to view Lu Jianjun in the dining area, Lu Jun-hui, and Bai Tian instantly greeted him. They didn’t saw him entered previously with their backs towards the door, only when he walked over to sit beside Li Na did everyone else notice his presence.
The meal was served. Li Na was still dazed in her head. The diner was silent, and even though Lu Jianjun had tried to keep quiet, she could still hear and sense him when he was close, or when he moved, the feels of it was not something strange to her now. It had happened a few times to prior occasions, what was rare, though is the intensity of feeling growing inside of her. To ease up the strange tension between them,
Li Na toyed with food on her plate, separating the left green herbs she didn’t like before saying in a subdued tone, which only Lu Jianjun could hear. “You’re being quite obedient to me,” then raising her eyelid to look she pressed on, “just now, though,”
Perceiving the catastrophe shimmering in those cryptic eyes of hers, he looked deep into them. “And when will you be the one,”
“When did I disobey,” she pondered when it instantly clicked, her disobedience to be his date for some unknown event. “Oh… I did upset you then,”
“Of course, you are my ideal match made by heavens. Though, you didn’t find the fun of anything else than upsetting me,” he said promptly, his eyes lowered on the food on her plate.
She chuckled lowly, shrugging her shoulders, even if she didn’t find it funny back then it was truly becoming one funny incident now. It was unexpected to hear those words coming from a sulky-looking Lu Jianjun.
“Your ideal match?” she repeated in a disbelieving tone.
“With a face like this,” she slowly gestured towards her face and continued, “I thought, it always stunned you for its ugliness.” she jabs at him with an old taunt Lu Jianjun had said on her face in the past. Lu Jianjun frowned as he immediately remembered his remark over Li Na’s new look where she doesn’t look like Li Na but more of Mei Xing’s style. And in a fit of anger, he’d unreasonably criticized her looks.
Seated side by side, Lu Jianjun’s silent gaze gradually intensify on her, he interestingly studied her fine features over again ignoring all other people seated at the table. Even after he’d warned her she didn’t change a thing, giving off a completely different vibe from past Li Na. It wasn’t just that she carry with a feeling of a different person but the look as well. And the more he interacts with her, the more fluctuated he feels for her. Whether this change of heart would be good or bad for both of them, only time will tell.
They were sitting closer than an arms distance from each other but it appeared surreally closer without any hostility, the undefined emotions in his eyes were speaking volumes in something she doesn’t know.
Li Na noted the look he bears with uncertainly yet, for now, her mood was specially heightened, after hearing Little Tiger call her Mama the first time, she wanted to share the course and her joy with someone, and Lu Jianjun was the first one to strike her mind who could understand the importance and depth of it being the parent. ” Anyhow, thank you! With a look like yours to matched ideally, I will try to take it as a compliment. But I definitely matched with Little Tiger to be called his mama,”
Lu Jianjun frowned, he thoroughly caught her indirect statements, ” Did he called you, Mother?”
“Thanchu, Mama! he said,” Li Na mimicked the boys’ tone and informed him proudly which made the man stared at her hard as he saw she couldn’t contain the joy of it showing in her childish smile.
Stunned, Lu Jianjun turned to gaze toward Little Tiger seated across the table and indeed he felt the same joy and soothe she’d reflect on Little Tiger’s face as he ate his food obediently.
“He eased up to you rather quickly than I expected from him,” He remarked, turning to look at Li Na, Lu Jianjun knew Little Tiger would forgive and forget every pain and heartbreak that happened in the past when the boy get to spend some time with Li Na even if she didn’t put any effort into him. But with her extra effort of cooking, playing, laughing with him, he eased up too quickly, and Little Tiger had melted completely for her. He wondered if it was so easy for her.
“He’d just eased up now, I want him to be free and opened up so that he could grow up to be an upbeat child. Strong in mind and emotions,” She said resolutely and Lu Jianjun watched her easiness mildly, and the visions she’d for the boy. He agreed with her on this, Little Tiger’d a lot to learn.
” I appreciate your efforts, in days you did what I couldn’t for years,” Lu Jianjun praised her sincerely stunning the girl.
“I haven’t done anything special, he was a lovable kid from the start,” she said thinking it to be true as all she did was follow her instinct. She turned to gaze at Little Tiger. He loved her way before she came to love him.
“Mhm, what special things would you like to do?” Lu Jianjun asked curiously.
Special things? There were many she wanted to do with Little Tiger. But for now, only one thing stuck to her, which she didn’t found wrong to share with Lu Jianjun.
“Something like shopping,” she replied. ” His wardrobe lack variety of clothing,”
“Alright,” Lu Jianjun nodded. “We will go shopping today then,”
“Excuse me?” she asked in a bit raised voice.
“I’ll pick you up from GQ by evening,” she looked at him in stunned silence.
Just as Li Na opened her mouth to say regarding Little Tiger, Lu Jianjun leaned towards her and whispered softly in her ear. “Sorry, we can’t take him out in this condition, hope you don’t mind…”
Then she was about to deny it all together when he swiftly added. “It would be a pleasant surprise for him, he would be very happy,” which instantly made her have a second thought. Would he like surprise more than the detour?
“I don’t know…” she murmured as Lu Jianjun sat straight and started to eat.
“You’ve got the whole day to make up your mind and let me know,” he put the fork in his mouth before he said to her, “Eat now,” and she began to focus on her breakfast.
Lu Jianjun went silent and had his breakfast, not bothering her with any more questions. He was the first one to leave the table for work after saying his goodbye to Little Tiger.
Since Madam Lu and Master Lu were to spend the whole day with Little Tiger at home, Li Na felt relieved to know he would have company while they were at work. Saying her farewell, she went with Bai Tian and Lu Jun-hui to GQ.
Even though Li Na knew nothing about how the entertainment industry works or how to act, she still followed the given task given. By this time, Li Na was dead curious to know about her past and her relationship with Wang Jing after Guo Jie’d named her. She doesn’t know anything about the woman and after pondering a while she thought it would be better to work and stay in the same environment where both Wang Jing and Li Na once used to work. Who knows what new things she would stumble upon and she’d had a strong instinct things are not as simple as they appeared to be with Li Na’s past.
It was clear by now to her, the audition was an order from Lu Jianjun. Everything was arranged for her, Bai Tian was taking care of everything on her behalf as she sat there listening to their discussion of characters to act.
Now seating at the table with some snacks, most of the team had gathered Li Na sat at the last chair of the table trying to soak up all things they discuss. Though she was not expected to do anything but a pretty face for the audience nobody from the team included her that much.
“Li Na?” Suddenly, the screenwriter turned towards her.
“Yes?” she replied instantly.
“Are you following the topic?” he questioned. Li Na spoke nothing but frown, expressing her displeasure.
“You don’t have to prepare much for your role. But before we start filming, you would have to go through audition just for the sake of formality,” he explain, and Li Na nodded apprehensively.
“Alright, when is the audition?”
“Three days later, the whole casting crew will be there. Make sure you remember the dialogue, you have least among all characters.” Then a member from the technical crew passed script-like pages to her. Li Na picked up them, as she went with the flow.
“And tomorrow, you will be assigned the new manager and an assistant to help,” this time Bai Tian informed her distantly, “I’ve talked with CEO Lu on this,” she silently agreed to all they’ve prepared for her and the day flew by amidst the getting instructions and meeting the crew members.
It was 4 in the evening when Ethan came knocking on her office door to pick up the girl.. She’d just returned after giving her body measurement and a few shots of the photograph for the team to map her for a new portfolio.
