Queen of Science - 5 Nighttime Activities!
After a week passes, Camilla and Miles decide that Fern can sleep in the nursery alone! They thought that newborns should sleep with their parents until they are 9 months old. However, Fern could sleep anytime, anywhere when she followed her mom to work. Logically, little Fern should be able to sleep in her own room.
This is a great opportunity for Fern! She can now leave her crib at night without her parents’ knowledge! Most of Fern’s days simply consisted of eating, pooping, sleeping, and following her mom around. Now she can finally sneak into her parent’s office and access the internet on a computer.
Since Fern’s body is still weak and has poor stamina, she plans on starting with something simple. She is going to create an educational website! Although she is far too young to start a company in her name, she can make a company in her parent’s name!Since her mom is a professor, it isn’t crazy that she would start an education company, right?
Once the lights go out and her parents kiss Fern on the cheek, her great escape begins!
Fern channels her inner body-builder and lifts herself up and on top of the crib railing. Perched on top of the railing, Fern takes a moment to catch her breath. Once recovered, Fern shimmies to the corner of the crib and slides down the side like a fireman slides down a pole.
Making a triumphant expression, Fern exclaims, “mah~ that wasn’t so hard”
Fern then waddles to the door and turns the doorknob carefully. Once the door is open, she sticks her head out and looks left, right, then left again. Having determined that no one is getting a midnight snack, Fern waddles to the office. Fortunately, the office does not have a door, so she can walk right in.
Fern scans the room and finds the computer. Like the television, the computer is a bit dated and chunky compared to the computers from Fern’s original world. Fern climbs onto a chair and presses the computer’s power button.
“Da-dah-dahhh.” The screen flickers on and a desktop with a sunset background appears.
Fern finds a reasonably priced website hosting platform and begins designing the company website. The website is called “Simply Explained.” The background of the website is white, and the words are black. Highlight sections of the website such as “subjects” are typed in blue font.
The first subject that Fern will teach is math. In order to attract a wide variety of students, she will have lessons on math for grades kindergarten to high school. Although the high school level lessons are intended for grades 9-12, some of the lessons may be helpful for university students.
Fern will also be making lessons on biology, physics, chemistry, psychology, sociology, computer science and astronomy, so she starts including those in the website design.
As Fern types in the last bits of code, her eyelids start dropping and her head bobs up and down. Taking the hint from her body, Fern decides to go back to sleep.
After turning off the computer, Fern hobbles back to her room and to the crib. After trying and failing to get into the crib, she gives up and decides to sleep with her parents. Even more tired, Fern waddles to her parents’ room and falls asleep in between the couple. Hopefully, Camilla and Miles will miraculously forget that Fern was supposed to be sleeping in the nursery.
