Queen of The Scalpel - Chapter 41

‘I thought it was a lie.’ To be honest, when she told his father that she wanted to be a doctor, he just laughed it over. What would a spoiled girl know about being a doctor? But seeing her today, it definitely wasn’t a lie. It was unimaginable.
“Thank you.”
A short expression of gratitude. It was a hard voice, but she could feel the genuine emotion behind it. Elise happily smiled and spoke.
“You’ve worked hard today. And you helped us with the surgery.”
She felt slightly embarrassed. They made the guardian of the patient enter the surgery room because they didn’t have enough people. It wasn’t something that could happen on Earth.
But the man shook his head.
“It was nothing to help my people. Don’t worry. Anyway…since you treated Randol, I’ll reward you like I said earlier. Is there anything you want? Anything is fine.”
Anything. They were empty words. He was the Crown Prince of the Great Empire, Britia. He had the ability to give her whatever she wanted.
“As for the reward.”
She laughed and spoke.
“Please don’t give to me, but the financial office of the hospital. I just did something that was expected of a medical staff.”
And she added on to what she said.
“It’ll be expensive. Teresa Hospital accepts payments depending on the payer. Homeless people are free, citizens a small amount, bourgeoisie or noble families a lot… something like that.”
It was the intention of the Marquis to take away money from the rich and help the poor. To be honest, it wasn’t working that well. Because only the poor crowded to the hospital.
“Mm…you might be surprised looking at the payment. Don’t get angry saying it was a scam.”
The Crown Prince twitched the corners of his mouth. He, the Crown Prince, would be surprised seeing the payment amount? If it was supposed to be a joke, it wasn’t funny. ‘I’ll have to pay her back later then.’ And he spoke again.
“Alright. I’ll send someone. Ah, and I’m moving Randol to the Imperial Cross Hospital. That would be ok, right?”
“Yes, his condition is stable so I don’t see a problem with it. I’ll write an explanation about the surgery here.”
If they were to change hospitals, the hospital would need to know how she did the surgery. So an explanation through a referral was necessary. ‘It’s an unfamiliar surgery, so there might be confusion. I should write as specifically as possible.’ At the time, she didn’t know what the referral would lead to.
“Then I’ll take my leave.”
After some conversation, the Crown Prince stood up to leave. It was late. There were times when he didn’t return to the palace after his undercover leaves, but it was probably best to return now.
But when he stood up!
“…!”
His world was dizzy, and he stumbled.
“Ron?”
Elise, surprised, grabbed his hand.
It was just a standard show of support from a doctor to their patient. But the Crown Prince was taken aback at the sudden warmth in his hands. It was unexpectedly soft from someone who had just performed such a large scale surgery.
“…It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”
He spoke, pulling his hand out. But Doctor Elise determined that his condition was normal. She wouldn’t know unless she observed him closely, but his face was slightly pale.
“Your tone isn’t looking too good. Do you have a fever? Can I check?”
And approached the Crown Prince to put her hand on his forehead.
“…!”
The Crown Prince was further taken aback. As her body got closer to him, he felt the scent of milk.
“I’m alright. Don’t worry.”
He quickly stepped back. Elise tilted her head back looking at him who was avoiding her.
This was a hospital, and she was a doctor. She only tried to observe him because he didn’t seem well, so she didn’t understand the man’s reaction.
“I think it would be better to be observed….”
“It’s fine. I’ve been dizzy for awhile now.”
The Crown Prince rejected in a firm voice. But the iron willed doctor, Elise, didn’t give up. A young and healthy man felt dizzy often? Something was strange. Couldn’t he have some kind of illness?
“It’ll only take a moment. Come this way….”
As she approached him again, he only rejected her more.
“I’m really ok!”
And he quickly moved to distance himself from her. Elise blankly looked at his back. ‘Why is he doing that?’ Elise didn’t know, but he was more surprised than he had ever been these past years. Even he didn’t know why he was being like this.
“Ron!”
“…!”
Eventually, Elise spoke to his back. Since she couldn’t force the patient….
“If your conditions continue, please come back to be observed. We’ll help you.”
But he just left the hospital without any reply.
Elise worriedly muttered.
“Why is he doing that? He needs to be checked for his dizziness…”
And like that, the night passed. It was a tiring and eventful night.
The next day, the Imperial Cross Hospital came to take the patient…and the hospital was in an uproar.
