Queen of The Scalpel - Chapter 58
So his treatment was finished, and the day of the anniversary ball finally arrived. All of Londo was busy preparing for the ball.
The Teresa Hospital was closed during this time, so they only received emergency patients in the relief center. Elise received a vacation.
“Honey, how’s this? Is this okay?”
“You look good in everything you wear.”
“Don’t be like that and be more specific.”
“Ahem, it’s really all okay. I don’t get what you mean by choosing.”
“You’re only saying that because you can’t be bothered! Quickly, look.”
“Y-You really look pretty.”
Even her stepmother, who wasn’t usually interested in balls, prepared excitedly. Elise warmly smiled looking at them. Their relationship had always been sweet.
‘I’ll protect her this time.’ In her last life, her mother had died from a disease. But this time, that wasn’t going to happen. Because she was here!
‘It’s not time for the illness to show up yet. I won’t miss it.’ She thought of her past. It was a few years later until her stepmother would become sick.
“Lissy, aren’t you getting ready?”
“I’m ready. I’m going to wear the dress I got last time.”
“Really?”
Chris tilted his head. His sister always ran around the house in excitement when there was a ball coming up. But she looked like she didn’t care.
In reality, she didn’t care. She didn’t even want to go. ‘Nothing good happened at balls anyway.’ The anniversary in her past life was horrendous. Because her engagement with the Crown Prince was announced.
And there was another reason why she didn’t want to go. ‘I have to study.’ The test was two weeks after the ball. She had the knowledge of the past, but she still had to study.
‘I have to study about the differences between here and Earth. I might be marked wrong if I reply like I would on Earth.’ She wanted to study, but she didn’t have enough time. ‘I’ll come back after showing my face and study at home.’
“Lissy, what are you thinking about?”
“N…Nothing.”
“Hm?”
Chris looked closely at her.
“You seem a bit pale, are you okay?”
And he touched her forehead.
“Hm? I think you have a fever?”
“???”
Elise tilted her head. She had a fever?
“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”
“No, really. Your face is pale! It’s nice to work hard, but aren’t you overworking yourself?”
“No, I’m really okay.”
Elise firmly shook her head at Chris’s concern.
“See. I’m fine.”
“No. You should rest. Stop reading and go lie down in your bed.”
And he forcefully flipped over the book Elise was reading.
“Brother, I’m fine. I’ll look at it just a bit more.”
“No!”
“Brother. Hm? It’s a request. Hm?”
She hung on her brother’s arm and acted cute, but Chris was firm.
“Definitely not! Rest today. You already have a weak body, and what if you get sick?”
She ended up being forced to her room.
“I’m really okay…”
“Good Lissy. I’ll take the book, so rest well today. Alright?”
Chris smiled softly like cream and took all the books in her room. It was the attitude of Chris who got things done right and on time perfectly at the Bureau.
Elise sighed at her forced rest. ‘I did overwork myself.’ After she got home from the hospital, she studied until the morning when she got back home. It was a schedule that most men wouldn’t be able to swallow. It would be a lie if she said she wasn’t tired. She had been feeling dizzy since a few days ago as well.
‘But I did more when I was on Earth.’ There was a time when she worked straight for two days without eating a single meal. Not only her, but all the interns and residents in Korea did that. ‘But I endured it well. Compared to Song Jihyun’s body, my body is definitely more weak now.
She closed her eyes. ‘It’ll all be better if I sleep and wake up.’
