Queen of The Scalpel - Chapter 59
She became worse.
“Ah…”
Elise groaned when she opened her eyes.
‘Hurts…fever…’
Her entire body felt cold and warm. Her head hurt, and she was dizzy. ‘What is it? Common cold? URI?’
‘Ah…I have to go to the ball today.’ She sighed. It was the first day of the ball. All high nobles in the capital had to attend no matter what. Then, there was a knock on her door and her brother came in.
“Lissy! You woke up? Are you better now? You should get ready now.”
Chris’s face hardened. He saw her face, pale and white.
“Lissy?”
“Ah…yes.”
He was surprised after touching her forehead. It was scalding hot.
“Oh no. Wait a moment here!”
He rushed out, and Elise laid herself down with a dreamy gaze. ‘Ow….’
Then, Chris came back with the family’s physician. Her father was with them.
“Elise!”
Marquis El’s face hardened seeing Elise. Elise faintly smiled as if telling him not to worry.
“I-I’m fine.”
But she seemed even more sick doing that, and the Marquis became angry. ‘These Teresa Hospital guys! Just how much did they work this child!! Just wait until after the ball! All your pay will be cut! And that Grayam guy is definitely cut!’
He was a loved Marquis who was honored for noblesse oblige, but in front of his family, he became an intense man.
“I’ll diagnose you real quick.”
The physician approached Elise. Elise told him what she thought it was.
“Based on the symptoms, I think it’s an upper respiratory infection (URI).”
The physician blinked at what she said. It was the precisely correct medical term.
“I’ll take a look at it.”
And he tested her. Her fever was 38.7 degrees (Celsius). He nodded his head.
“Yes, I think it’s an URI like you said.”
“Is Lissy okay?”
“Is Elise okay?”
Her father and her brother asked at the same time. The physician smiled at their worried faces.
“Yes, a URI is like a cold so she’ll be better after rest. Because her fever is high, I’ll give her some medicine. Take it, and get well.”
And the physician left. Seeing the medicine, Elise realized they were painkillers and fever reducers. ‘I hope my fever doesn’t increase. Hopefully I’ll get better.”
Marquis El spoke in a hard tone.
“Elise.”
“Yes?”
“From now on, you’re forbidden from going to the hospital.”
“What?!”
What was this suddenly?
“You’re sick because you go to the hospital. How is a weak child going to become a doctor? I knew this would happen. It’s absolutely forbidden.”
He completely forgot about how his daughter was complimented and expressed anger.
“No, father. It’s because I studied too much. I didn’t overwork myself at the hospital. I won’t be sick again.”
“Anyways, you can’t!”
Elise frantically tried to calm her father down.
“I won’t overwork myself in the future. Or be sick. So don’t be worried, father. Hm? Hm? Father, Dad, Hm?”
She was barely able to calm her father down after acting cute. Her brother worriedly spoke from her side.
“Can you go to the ball, Elise?”
“I have to.”
“I think it’ll be too much…”
“It’s fine. Even if I’m not well, I have to go.”
It was the first day. And she wasn’t just any noble, but the lady of the greatest noble family in the empire. Unless she was bedridden after fainting, she couldn’t skip out on it. But her father firmly spoke.
“You don’t have to go. Who would say anything? The daughter of mine, Marquis El, is sick.”
“Father…”
“I’ll take responsibility for whatever the Emperor says.”
It was a statement of love and concern. Elise smiled. It was a smile filled with happiness. ‘He only showed his strict side in the past.’ She didn’t experience this happiness in the past. All these moments were precious.
