Queen of The Scalpel - Chapter 87
Elise had first started studying to survive. Without any family, her only option was studying, and she kept on pushing herself. ‘I learned about poverty when I was an orphan. And how unhappily I had been living in my previous life.’
Thankfully, she met a kind sponsor at the orphanage she was in and was able to focus on her studies. His business didn’t do so well starting from her high school years, but she was still thankful for that. Without him, she would’ve given up on it a long time ago. ‘Even after entering medical school, I studied to live.’ Because she didn’t have any money, the only way for her to pay for medical school was through scholarships. If her scholarships got cut off, she wouldn’t be able to attend.
Before her father passed away, he left behind debt that she needed to pay back. Doing part-time jobs had their limits. ‘Thanks to him, there was nothing I could do except for studying.’ While others dated and did clubs in college, she focused only on studying. Others said she was cold-hearted, but she had no other option.
Looking back, it was a really hard time for her. She had secretly cried when others didn’t look several times a day. ‘Back then, I was so lonely that I missed my family a lot.’
But that effort had made her into what she became. She was called Monster Doctor, and Great Surgeon. ‘Anyways, you can do this, Elise.’
An hour passed like that, and right before the test began, Elise pulled out a small box from her bag. In the prettily decorated box, there was taffy inside.
‘I’m not a kiddo.’ A faint smile appeared on her face when she read that. The person who had given her this present was none other than the 3rd Prince, Mikhal. Her only friend in her past life. Yesterday, he had secretly come to the Clarence residence and given her this present.
“I’m gonna punish you if you fail! So pass!”
He teased her, and disappeared like the wind. Elise put the taffy in her mouth and thought. ‘Yes, I’ll definitely pass. Thanks, Mil.’
Mil. The nickname that only she called him by. She didn’t know if the time would come in this life when she could call him that again.
At exactly 9am, all disciples got in their seats and awaited nervously for their tests.
“Put everything on your desk down, and if you’re caught cheating, you won’t be able to take the medical license test again, so be careful.”
The strict-looking overseer passed out the tests and it began.
“Then, we’re starting the test right now. I hope you all do well.”
Clang. The bell signaling the start of the test rang, and the disciples worriedly opened their booklets. Elise looked at the questions, eyes shaking. ‘This?!’ They were questions that she never would’ve imagined.
***
“Ah…oh no.”
She could hear groans from all over the testing location.
“How am I supposed to answer these?”
Everyone’s voices were filled with surprise. They all didn’t know what to do after seeing the difficulty of the questions. It hadn’t even been 10 minutes since the test began, but there were some people who were getting ready to leave.
Elise was also surprised. She wouldn’t have guessed these kinds of questions would be on the test. She wasn’t surprised because the questions were hard but… ‘this is similar to the questions on the KMLE or the USMLE Step 2ck on Earth!’
KMLE(Korean Medical Licensing Examination).
USMLE(US Medical Licensing Examination).
Both were medical licensing tests. ‘How did this happen?’ She skimmed through the questions again.
[2nd Question – Female / Age : 35]
She came to the hospital because of abdominal pain that’s been going on for 3 days. Her temperature is 38 degrees. Her pain is in the middle of her stomach, and moving down to the upper…What is the most likely diagnosis for this patient?
They were questions that would be on Earth’s tests. ‘I thought the medical tests were multiple choice and short answers?’ Such as…
-How to treat appendicitis?
-How to treat asthma?
-When the heart is…?
It was the method of tests in the developed countries on Earth. ‘I’m pretty sure these types of tests haven’t appeared in the Britia’s medical licensing test, ever.’ She inwardly shook her head. ‘This format would be for people who haven’t done it before. Everyone will struggle.’
It was a form that required correct knowledge and accurate reading of the patient. It was obviously hard. ‘I wondered how they were going to make the test more difficult, but I guess this is how they did it.’
It was the result of the professors spending all-nighters on the questions. They couldn’t create nonexistent diseases, and test on a bunch of rare ones. Testing someone on a rare illness that they would probably only see once or twice in their lifetime wasn’t an efficient test.
