Queen of The Scalpel - Chapter 93
They didn’t know what the highest score and being the Crown Princess had to do with each other, but it was still nice. The reporters spread articles like gossip about a famous actor. Thanks to them, the citizens all heard about Elise.
“Wow, amazing. Our Crown Princess.”
“I know, right? I don’t know that well, but I heard it was hard.”
“Yeah, the second son of a bourgeoisie family that I know failed for the 4th time. But the highest scorer?”
“Since she’s that wise, she’ll be a good Crown Princess, right?”
“Of course! And don’t they say she’s like an angel? Since she’s been volunteering in the slums for several months now.”
“Someone like her should be the empress. The past empress and the concubine…”
The speaker stopped talking and looked around them. Because speaking about the empress and the concubine was a forbidden subject even among the common citizens. They respected their Emperor, Minchester.
“Ahem, I made a mistake. But why did Dame Clarence take the medical license test? Is she actually trying to be a doctor?”
“You’re right. Why did she take the test if she’s going to be the Crown Princess anyway?”
They were curious. It didn’t match up.
“I don’t know. She’ll probably have something in mind. Anyways, cheers to Dame Clarence who’ll become the Crown Princess of our empire!”
Elise’s family was also overjoyed. Especially Marquis El.
“Hahaha! Our daughter!”
The serious faced chancellor was smiling from ear to ear.
“Look here! It’s a party for our family! Open all the wine! Haha! It’s a good day, so we can all eat and play!”
“Yay! Hurrah for Lady Elise!”
The workers all shouted. The sudden party began in the Clarence family’s estate. Everyone was happy with the food and wine. Her brother Chris, worried about her with a red face from the alcohol.
“Elise you have to take care of your body even after you become a doctor.”
“Yes, you too.”
“What do I have to worry about? I’m worried about you. Anyways, don’t get close to a patient that seems dangerous.”
As her brother continued nagging, Elise smiled. She was happy. ‘Brother. I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen to you.’ It was just her assumption, but the Creme Expedition would be set in stone soon. ‘Chris participated to pay for my mistakes.’
And…he didn’t return. ‘Since he won’t participate this time. I don’t have to worry.’
Baron Ren spoke to her after returning home for the first time since a long while.
“Congratulations. I thought you were just rude, but there’s something you can do well too.”
Elise made a surprised face at what he said. She thought he would just pass by her without saying anything.
“Thank you, brother.”
But he was strange today. He hesitated, and asked her something weird.
“Um…Elise.”
“Yes?”
“What’s a food that you like?”
“…what?”
“Favorite play? Or hobby?”
She suspected her ears. But seeing his embarrassed face, she hadn’t heard wrong.
“Why…suddenly?”
“…”
He was dead silent. ‘I don’t know.’ He didn’t know why he had to ask useless questions like this either. ‘Why is His Highness curious about this?’ What did what his little sister like have to do with him?! They could just do what they liked and live like that!
But since he kept on asking, he felt awkward. ‘It would be better if he asked about the Francoen Republic’s defense, or something like that.’ He sighed.
Anyhow, the Clarence estate happily danced the night away. It was an enjoyable night.
But even when everyone was happy, there was someone who became dejected after hearing the news. It was Emperor Minchester. ‘Pass with the highest score?’ He laughed. ‘And in all of history? When the questions were that hard? How amazing.’ He shook his head.
How much would Elise surprise him? He didn’t know. Of course, the bet wasn’t over. Since Elise had just passed the medical license test. Being the highest scorer was impressive, but there was always one every year. It didn’t fulfill the conditions of proving her worth as a doctor.
But…he muttered to himself. ‘What if…that child actually does something to fulfill the condition?’ There was no way. There were only 4 months left now. What could she do during that time? There was no way she could win. ‘But.’
What she had shown him over 2 months…maybe..he thought that he might lose for the first time. He felt a headache coming on.
