Quest Maker of Soul Land - Chapter 368: Return
Ja Sun’s main goal is to achieve attainment of a Master’s in multiple laws before aiming for the realm of Grandmaster. But aside from reaching this goal, he also wished to understand more uses of the basic laws he has now mastered to this degree.
Except for better use of the Temporal Law, Ja Sun now believes he is getting rather proficient in every other law except for the Spatial one because of his focus.
Of course, there are a few more changes over the years.
First, the immaculate group of Lightning Panthers was preyed upon by a herd of Pristine Flying Elephants with many light-based abilities, making them not only heavy hitters but also quick.
After one of the baby elephants swallowed the incomplete and unbalanced core, it began to go through many changes. First and foremost, its pristine and creamish-white body grew to be increasingly dark, and its pure white crystal-like tusks began to attain a shadowish hue.
From the elephants, Ja Sun began to learn the manipulation of light but this journey is barely a few months old as not only did the elephant that swallowed the core becomes more aggressive than the panther but it’s strikingly opposite body finally earned the ire of its peers and it got stabbed many elephants.
The corpse of the elephant is then devoured by wind wolves and on and on the cycle continues.
Not only does every next consumer of the core suffers more and more due to the core, but they also show a greater appetite than their species’ natural capabilities.
And Ja Sun understood the reason rather easily.
First, the drop of blood was like a dying old man. It needed slow and gradual recovery. It needed simple nutrition to at least become the slightest bit stable.
Now, however, it is like a raving parasite. It needs more. It wants to consume as many things as quickly as possible to grow into a proper core. This affects the beasts quickly and makes them more aggressive. The stronger the core grows, the less it needs to take from the beast’s share because of the quantity consumed and due to the core’s devouring skill, the greater the beast grows.
Most of the time, the peaceful species would turn against such a beast or the aggressive one would fall under the rule of this beast.
Because that is what happens when this core is finally devoured by a White Tiger.
The core is in a more stable phase now which means that its psychological effects on the white tiger are minimal but conversely, the physical ones are more prominent than before.
But this Dark Devilgod Tiger still isn’t the one Ja Sun killed yet the core also doesn’t pass on to others.
Instead, Ja Sun observes that the core has entered a new phase. It is no longer changing the beast uncontrollably. Instead, it starts to change the soul origin of the beast to become in perfect sync with the core and the result is understandable.
The cores of a spirit master or spirit beast are created using special treasures that completely fuse with the target. For instance, the Life-Death Spirit Cauldron within Ja Sun’s mind gives him a greater affinity with life and poison. Not only that, it builds upon whatever foundation he has. His other cores— Yin-Yang War Physique and Immortal Buddha King are the same.
One allows him to digest anything and convert it into energy to increase his physical strength gradually and the other one allows him to store as much spirit energy as he pleases. None of it changes what he can already do but builds upon it instead. Adds on him.
But the act of the evil core altering the first Devilgod Tiger results in the Tiger’s death.
Until now, the core has been acting like an unstable core but a core nonetheless— boosting the user’s strength.
Now, however, it seems to be altering the user’s very origin and as Ja Sun observes everything, his mind almost feels blown over!
‘Fuck me… this is almost the same thing as Qian Xunji mutating Master’s martial soul and… Ja Yin’s proposed array. This core is playing against heaven…’
The more Ja Sun thinks about Ja Yin’s array and how Qian Xunji used the laws of blood alongside divine might to successfully alter Daoliu’s origin, the more he sees the issues in the core’s manner of altering the soul origin of the beasts.
The fact is that White Tiger is a prominent species and the corpse of the Devilgod Tiger is devoured by thousands of white tigers around it.
The core finds another home soon and starts the same process once more.
The process continues until one tiger is fortunately adaptive to the core’s intrusive actions.
And now Ja Sun realized the true intention of the core.
Not only does this tiger becomes stable, but it also becomes stronger and eventually, has a spawn.
A natural Dark Devilgod Tiger.
But the moment this spawn is birthed, the core willingly leaves the original host, crippling it effectively, and entering the body of the new spawn which is more adaptive.
This is the problem with other beasts devouring the core instead of absorbing it. Of course… usually, cores aren’t sentient so it isn’t always a problem.
Still, Ja Sun observes how, with each successive spawn, the core becomes closer to completion and perfection.
The devouring ability grows stronger. Meaning, unlike before when devouring treasures only gave a slight boost in the understanding of laws, it now provides a better understanding instead.
But as the core and each successive host become more and more intimate, it is revealed that the parasitic state has shifted to a mutually benefiting relationship with the beast itself having more and more control over the core’s ability.
This is how heaven plays fair.
The moment the core becomes stable, the beast gains the priority of its ability. But the beast does not know any better. It would always prioritize physical strength over the understanding of laws and that’s about it.
Ja Sun feels he has seen enough.
He feels his gains are already great and he also feels he can help Ja Yin complete the array of her desire. Not only that, he is now a firm master in the laws of— Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, Lighting, Darkness, Light, Time, and Space.
Correction.
He is one step beyond the realm of a master but still short of a Grandmaster.
So, he can be considered Quasi-Grandmaster in all the aforementioned laws except for the Law of Time.
—
Ja Sun’s eyes don’t open but his consciousness gradually returns to reality and after simmering down for a while, he finally opens his eyes.
Now… he admits that he has been gone for months here. But for him… it’s been years.
YEARS!
He has many things going on in his head. Many things he wants to do. Many things he wants to feel once more.
Unfortunately… the day he arrived in this world is also the day he vowed to attain the greatest self-control the likes of which his former Master could never achieve, too.
And thus, he forces himself to just focus on his changes.
The most obvious change is the fourth core presiding in his body.
Ja Sun did not wish to create a fourth core because it held no meaning to him. However, now that Ja Sun understands that this core used to be a fragment of blood from Dragon Prince whose death sparked the era of War amongst the Gods… he understood that just denying this core wouldn’t do.
And again, Ja Sun did not devour this core.
He absorbed it.
His body and mind feel bloated at this point and his spirit energy has peaked.
Rank 99.
In his mental world surrounded by golden clouds, Bright Goddess Butterfly retains her bubbly spirit and flies over a bunch of flowers before meeting with her usual playmate— Nightmare’s Fantasy. Meanwhile, his third spirit soul, Evileye Tyrant King floats above his mental core quietly.
His mental core contains a cauldron around which two of his avatars reside. One is the death avatar and the other one is the life avatar. From the cauldron, a stream of purplish mist would leak constantly and become a poisonous sky but now it also entertains the childish Evileye Tyrant who has lost its memories after Ja Sun wiped its consciousness clean.
Finally, there is the Dark Devilgod Tiger sprawled on the ground with his tail swaying lazily. It, too, has no memories whatsoever and is a clean slate.
This method has its drawbacks. First and the most major drawback is that these two Spirit Souls cannot actively assist him in using spirit abilities. But this is an acceptable loss to him.
Within his heart resides a rather cruel-looking yet dignified warrior with the perpetual intent of war seeping through him. This core looks like Ja Sun, too, but it is not an avatar. It cannot move out of him and do stuff. This is the Yin-Yang War Physique.
Within his spirit sea is no longer any spirit energy but one lone figure.
Bald, yes, but almost peerless in looks and demeanor.
This is the Immortal Buddha King, a core developed from the Sigh of Immortal that can store any amount of spirit energy.
As Ja Sun said before, spirit energy and ranks are just boxes to be checked at this point. He is too strong. But he knows he can be stronger.
Nay, the path he has chosen makes sure that this level of strength would only lead him to his destruction so he has no choice but to get stronger.
Talk about the fallacy of strength.
Ja Sun used to dream of reaching the pinnacle of the mortal realm…
In his mind, he could finally rest after reaching this realm. After all, every opponent would be weaker than him so there would be no point to care about them.
But his enemies are… stronger.
‘I can’t have the hut I want besides a lake just yet…’
Ja Sun muses and then looks at the fourth core.
Unlike the three designated cores, this one seems to be in a space of its own carved within him.
This core… is within the indestructible crystal embedded within the chest of his Spirit Transformation.
Ja Sun notes that while looking like him, this shadow-black core also has furry arms, legs, and a tail, like his spirit transformation again.
But Ja Sun does not feel any life from it whatsoever.
It has no will of its own like every other core of his.
‘But… I have that devour skill now,’ Ja Sun’s eyes glint over.
He doesn’t know whether to consider himself lucky or unlucky.
Or, to be exact…
‘If the Lady of the Lake is lucky or not. She wanted me to go down the method she said but the cost is too much. Now, however, I have a better alternative to achieve the same thing without risking my life…’
He then frowns harder.
While the method from the Lady of Lake would cost his life, this new method may just cost him a major chunk of his wealth!
His life or his wealth?!
The hoarder he is… he simply cannot decide!
One thing is clear, however.
Ja Sun’s intuition about the very world after reaching this strength is… tingling.
Heck, he feels he will end up crushing himself.
Reaching the peak of mortality is alright but the current him is instinctively trying to reach beyond.
As in, his internal energy and mental energy need to be suppressed consciously.
‘I’ll think about losing my life or losing wealth later… Daddy’s gotta blow and every moment count.’
After getting Ah Yin pregnant, he is a certified Daddy.
