Questing System - Chapter 16:Too talented
Burp!
Daedalus nonchalantly burped whilst Icarus broke into laughter. ‘We learned the basics today.’ Icarus puffed up his chest before announcing the rest, ‘and I have already learned Enhancement and Sense.’
‘Wow!’ Sana smiled and clapped.
‘But,’ his visage did get somewhat deflated, ‘I still wasn’t able to master Sense and expand it beyond my force-field.’
Daedalus’ eyes popped out whilst Sana frowned. ‘Well, it shouldn’t be so easy to master them.’ She nodded and smiled, bending down and ruffling his hair. ‘You know my father used top say that the more basic the skill, the more effort it takes to master it.’ Then she started cleaning up. ‘So keep trying. Now go practice in your room, I will be over after cleaning the table.’ Icarus nodded before heading inside.
Daedalus was also about to stand up when the surrounding temperature became extremely chilly. He looked up to see Sana staring at him smiling her smile. He instantly felt a chill run up his spine. ‘Honey, care to tell exactly what happened?’
He sighed before telling her the entire story. Naturally, Sana gasped when she heard how quickly Icarus had picked up Sense and Enhancement. This was followed by her high pitched squealing and muttering ‘my son is a prodigy’ over and over again. As she was in her excited mood, he attempted to slip away. It was to no avail as she stopped him dead in his tracks.
‘What was he talking about extending his Sense beyond his force field? Did you really ask him to execute such a difficult task? You know full and well that it takes even prodigies upto 10 to 12 years to master the Sense.’
He sighed, ‘I didn’t tell him to do that. I just told him that to master it, he was going to have to tell me where the position of the present I hid for him is.’
‘You’re telling me he figured out that part himself?’ Daedalus didn’t say anything and just headed for the door. ‘Why did you tell him to master Sense though?’ He still didn’t answer and continued to head for the door.
Whoosh!
He found himself face to face with Sana. She was blocking his way out. ‘Why?’ He went around her and still didn’t answer. ‘Daedalus, I’m asking you! Why?’He didn’t answer and pushed against the door.
Crack!
Ice instantly covered the hinges of the door, stopping it from swinging out. ‘Why?’ Daedalus lightly pushed the door, causing it to crack and splinter and open up. He walked out the patio but didn’t make it very far as ice spread underneath his feet and a wall of ice sprouted in front of him, stretching out over a kilometre.
‘Why?!’ Sana stood on the patio, with her hair white and her pupils icy blue. Daedalus clenched his fists, still not turning around. ‘Answer me Daedalus, why would undermine your son’s confidence? Why would you ask him to do the impossible? Talk to me damn it! Why?!’
‘Because I care about him!’ He yelled as he turned back. His pupils turned golden and his hair was a blazing red colour. The temperature around him shot up, causing the ice to instantly evaporate into oblivion. The ground underneath his feet became scorching black. The air itself hissed with heat. ‘Because he showed too much talent! Because I want him to not leave! Because I care about him!’
Sana shook her head calmly, ‘no. Its because your worst fears are coming true. Icarus’ talent is starting to display itself and he has already achieved something that was considered impossible. I know that you fear that he will eventual awaken as Warrior and a Magician.’ She walked up to him, her hair and eyes had already turned back to normal. Taking his hands into hers, she gently squeezed them. ‘I know that you fear that because you feel guilty.’
‘I fear because there are incredibly strong people out there for our son’s life.’
Sana shook her head, ‘That is what you tell yourself. But I know my man the best. I know you fear because you think its your fault that he was born into such a situation. I know you fear because you fear guilty. Towards both of us.’ She reached up and wiped the tear that was trickling down Daedalus’ cheek. ‘But its not your fault. None of this is. Remember the oath we took?’
He sniffled as he nodded. ‘We didn’t choose our birth.’
‘But we choose our life.’
‘And our death.’
‘To spend with each other.’
She got on her tip toes and kissed him. ‘So don’t ever ignore me okay?’ She frowned as she lightly struck his chest.
‘I know. I’m sorry.’ He leaned in close and hugged her.
‘Honey, Icarus will get suspicious if I take too long.’
‘Just a bit longer. We haven’t shared a hug for such a long time.’
‘Honey, I have to go.’
Daedalus grinned as he leaned down and whispered into her ears. ‘Then how about we continue tonight?’ A red blush overcame her face as she pushed him away and ran inside. Daedalus simply laughed and rubbed the back of his head. ‘I guess I should take care of the two peeping toms.’ He turned around and faced the forest.
Not far from that place. Two farmhands emerged sprinting out from the forest, panting heavily. Hitch looked towards Caylus as he asked out of breath. ‘You don’t think he saw us do you?’
Caylus looked up as he replied in a raspy voice. ‘You better hope not.’
‘It can’t be that bad. I mean all we saw was Daeda-‘ Caylus jumped towards Hitch and covered his mouth hastily.
‘Are you trying to get us fucking killed?! Don’t you know what he will do if he finds out?’
Thats when a hearty laughter echoed through the forest. ‘Oh boys!’
A chill ran up Caylus’ spine as feet moved without thinking. ‘Shit! He’s found us. Run!’
