Questing System - Chapter 7:'Screw off!”
The quiet lasted for only a few minutes, yet it felt like eternity to most of them.
Crack!
There was a thunderous explosion as a single crack appeared on the shell. There was a blinding light that was being emitted from the inside.
Crack, crack, crack!
As the cracks spread all over the egg, it seemed to rumble and shake.
Boom!
There was a deafening explosion of light as the shell was blown away, revealing a figure that had a halo of blinding golden light behind it. The people watching were finally able to make out the figure as the light around it dimmed. The first feature they spotted were three feathered wings which slowly unfolded to reveal a hooded figure. It was wearing a brown hood, causing its face to be completely obscured due to the shadow. It was also wearing golden armour armour with a lion’s face on the chest plate, two goat horns coming out of the hood and holding two swords whose blades were coming out of the dragon mouthed hilts.
The figure’s eyes shot open to reveal electric purple irises. Strands of white hair also were revealed. ‘No! This is impossible!’ The man in the castle shot up from his throne. He was not the only case as almost everybody watching shot up from their seats. Except for the old man. He just fell over from his chair due to the shock. At the same time the time, the purple eyed man’s gaze seemed to penetrate through great distances and reach the people. They all felt a great amount of pressure dawn on them. The wine gourd in the samurai’s hand crumbled, the teacup on the stand near the old man cracked. The whole castle around Niðhöggr started to creak and table that was surrounded by the men and women, smashed into the ground. Nobody in the room moved however. In fact, nobody who was watching moved at all. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to, it was because they were frozen on the spot due to fear.
It was a primal fear, that rose up from the very bottom of the pits of their souls. It was terrifying and they all had cold sweat drench their backs. Even Niðhöggr was no exception as he felt a palpitating fear engulf him. As they were feeling like an executioner was holding up a blade against their necks, a few words echoed into their ears. ‘Screw off!’ It was like thunder in broad daylight. At the same time the light in their eyes was snuffed out almost instantly and the threatening presence was gone as well.
The dim meeting room was filled with attendants, bloody tears and occasional groans. ‘What is our next step regarding this development?’
‘I suggest we fix up our eyes before doing anything else.’
‘Good call chief.’
Roar!
Thunderous roars shook the sky and the earth as the castle made of black iron barely held up. ‘I will kill you!’ Niðhöggr held his eyes as he screamed and raged all over the place, causing widespread destruction. The ground splintered and the blizzard raged as he continued to roar.
Caylus stared at the winged figure as it turned and faced him. He didn’t feel any malice or ill-intent from it. No, it was closer to…familiarity? This left him confused as he had never seen such a figure in his life before. He thought he hallucinated seeing a smile on its face before it dissolved into specks of light and fell upon the house, like a shower. ‘Boss…boss, come in!’
‘Y-yeah, I’m here.’ He was snapped out of his daze by the voice emerging from the blue crystal.
‘We lost contact with you there for a bit. All I saw was a blinding flash before the clouds were gone and a shockwave rocked the whole estate. What happened?’
Caylus breathed out heavily, ‘you won’t believe me even if I told you. Anyways, how is the shield looking?’
‘The damage that the last shockwave did to the shield was extensive. Almost half of the shield was flash fried. So its currently operating only on half capacity.’
‘Keep it going that way, just in case any more crazy things happen.’ Caylus decided to wait and see, staring vigilantly at the sky. The explosion of light had cleared away almost all of the clouds, leaving only the beautiful blue sky with the sun shining on the wet ground. Nobody would expect something crazy to happen but nothing that has happened so far was expected. As he waited, everything seemed quiet and the only sound was the soft chirping of birds and flowing of stream was audible.
‘Perhaps nothing will hap-‘ he spoke too soon.
‘Waah!’ The short cry of a baby emerged from the house. It was just a normal cry, yet it felt as if it blasted against Caylus’ mind, making it go numb.
The old man had finally settled back into seat. He whiffed the tea, it was his favourite. ‘Perhaps I’ll write a report later. These old bones of mines need some resting.’ He sipped the tea, holding it inside his mouth and swirling it around to taste the freshness.
‘Waah!’
Tea and spittle went everywhere as the old spat out. ‘I need to retire.’ He sighed heavily before slumping back into his chair. At the same time, the samurai, who was holding onto his new gourd heard it as well.
Smash!
The gourd was smashed into bits and pieces as the samurai heaved a heavy sigh. He stared at the azure as phrase came to his mind.
‘When the true emperor cries, all noise is null and all ears listen.’
In the dim meeting room all the people shot up from their seats at the same time. ‘Its a newborn!’ One of the people exclaimed. Everybody looked towards a middle aged man who snapped out of his daze and started rattling off a string of instructions. ‘Use every resource you have access to. Beasts, spirits, animals, humans. I don’t care how, I need to know where that newborn is located!’ Everybody rushed off trying their best to detect where exactly the brith had occurred.
