Su Li looked at Ning Fu suspiciously, “What are you doing in the Imperial Palace so late at night?”Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.comfor visiting.
When no reply was forthcoming, she felt that she must be hallucinating because first, she was the monarch and inside the Imperial Palace and the other person always observed proprietary to a T so it didn’t seem feasible that he would sneak around inside the Imperial Complex like a thief in the dead of the night.
Secondly, even if the Unit Commander of the Devil Snare Army was foolish or gutsy enough to scale the red-bricked walls of the Imperial Palace, he wouldn’t be idiotic enough to come up to her of his own accord until and unless he was planning on finishing her off.
As soon as Su Li thought up to here, she shook her head and whispered, “It seems that I am drunker than I thought because now I am even having hallucinations.”
Then she tilted her head to the side and in a sulky tone muttered, “But why is my mind brining up his illusion?”
She pouted her lips as if she was very cross with herself.
“Maybe, he is the bogeyman and so my mind is subconsciously warning m against him.”
She thought about it for a few seconds and nodded her head as if she had understood something and reached a conclusion.
“Yes. Yes. People always say that the bogeyman will come if children cry ceaselessly and don’t sleep at night. Then, is he here to scare me and get even with me for being naughty?”
Meanwhile, Ning Fu looked at the inebriated monarch with a raised eyebrow and tried not to raise his lips in a smile when he heard the nonsensical words.
It seemed that the monarch could be unintentionally funny when he was drunk.
However, His Majesty’s next actions didn’t leave him with much to smile about because all of a sudden, he felt a hand inch towards his face and pinch him with all their might.
Now, usually he wouldn’t mind such a small amount of pain that was negligible to him but since the other person touched the sensitive skin of his face, he let out a hiss through his clenched teeth.
He wanted to ask the monarch what did he think he was doing but before he could do more than turn his accusing eyes towards the said person, he got his answer when the other person whispered.
“I can touch him and he seems to feel the pain as well. Must be real.”
Then, in all her infinite wisdom, Su Li turned to poke Ning Fu’s cheek and asked, “Are you real or a figment of my imagination?”
At this point, Ning fu didn’t know whether to be angered by the current situation or laugh at his idiocy when he thought to help the monarch.
He decided to play along for the moment because it wouldn’t be good for his health if someone other than the monarch found him inside the Imperial Palace at such an ungodly hour.
He smiled and replied, “Your majesty, you are drunk and should go to sleep. This isn’t good for your health. Don’t you know the adverse effects of alcohol consumption?”
Su Li pondered about his words and when she didn’t seem to find a satisfactory answer, she shook her head like a rattle drum.
“It makes people act like fools.”
Su Li knew she should feel offended at those words but she couldn’t muster up the required annoyance at such a slight o her name.
She pulled the other person to sit with her on the bench and then curiously asked, “Are you saying I am a fool, Ning – Ning FuFu?”
Ning Fu felt himself shudder at the way the monarch butchered his name.
He recalled that his mother used to call him Ning Ning before he got enlisted in the army.
However, as soon as he was back from his first expedition his sweet mother showed her true colours when she changed her ladylike behaviour to that of a shrew in a fish market and only either called him a rascal or scoundrel.
All the more, what was this FuFu?
It sounded like a child crying because someone else had taken away their favourite toy.
Still, he couldn’t lose his temper on the monarch and swallowed back all his complaints and replied.
“No, you are not a fool, Your Majesty.”
When the monarch looked as if he didn’t believe him, he further explained himself.
“You are just a very chatty drunk, Your Majesty.”
He had hoped that the emperor would stop asking inane questions at his words but they seemed to have an opposite effect.
His Majesty looked at him with sad eyes that seemed to want to be pampered.
“You don’t like talking to me?”
Ning Fu really wanted to curse himself for his impulsive decisions.
“I like you. I like talking to you.”
But then he couldn’t keep the acerbic words to himself and showed his disapproval at this continuous drinking that had been going on for days on end.
“I just don’t like it when you drink so much, Your Majesty.”
Su Li backed away from him defensively and then with a pitiful tone asked, “Why?”
“It infuriates me to see you wasting away yourself like this.”
Ning Fu didn’t know why he said those words but he realised that they were his heartfelt words and the absolute truth.
