QuickBae - Chapter 25

The stories about Vampires and Werewolves were usually referred to as legends. Many didn’t even think that they could be in existence; little did they know. But Presh and TeeKay soon came to find out the truth behind the Legends.

After arriving in Ghoul City; a week after their departure from Sterling City, Teekay and Presh arrived in a high school rumored to be about the supernatural. It was also the coordinate Ali had given them before they left to search for super beings. The school was isolated in a strange and dark region deep within the woods. No one ever dreamed of setting foot into that dark forest let alone, go near the school. But Presh and TeeKay were determined to find out if the rumors were true. If they were true, the two planned on convincing the supernatural beings to join forces with them. As they approached the school, they saw what seemed like a transylvania castle beyond the gates. The gate was also very huge and well fenced. But there seemed to be little or no security. So the two Heroes pushed the gates and walked in. After few steps inside the school, the gate closed in behind them;

Presh: That was weird, right?

TeeKay: Yeah! But if we can find these supernatural beings, that’d be nice

Presh: Finding them is one thing….convincing them is another

TeeKay: Yeah! We might be here longer than we tend to be

Presh: That’s why we have less than three months. We’ve got to do this before our time elapses

TeeKay: Then it’s a good thing we sent our pilot back

TeeKay: You are right. The closer we got, the more the building disappeared

Presh: TeeKay! Where are you?

TeeKay: What do you mean?! I’m right…….(Now discovering a thick mist swirling around him)

Both Teekay and Presh were separated from one another or rather, they couldn’t see each other because of the Mist. The two Heroes cried out for one another but could not find the other. Suddenly; where Presh stood, a figure very familiar approached her;

Presh: You! How are you still alive?

Alternate: What are you talking about?

Presh: Playing dumb I see. Well then! If you are not going to tell me how you survived, then I will just have to kill you again

Alternate: What! What are you…

But before Alternate could complete his statement, Presh’s hair turned Blue and her eyes as well. She went into Killer Freeze mode. Her stare was as cold as her looks because she had the intent of nothing but murder. She then shot an Iceberg towards the speedster but as expected, he used super speed to dodge the attack. But Presh wasn’t done yet. She continued launching variety of Ice attacks with the sole determination of freezing Alternate to death. This battle lasted for about ten minutes until finally, the speedster was able to sneak behind Presh and apprehend her with a Cuff that suppresses Human Dynamos abilities;

Alternate: What are you talking about Presh! It’s me, TeeKay

Presh: What!

Teekay: Yeah Presh, It’s me

Just then, Presh came to the realisation that she didn’t see Alternate earlier but TeeKay. She had been attacking him all this while;

Presh: I don’t understand….I thought I just saw Alternate

TeeKay: What! No wonder you just started attacking me all of sudden. As the Mist occurred, I got separated from you. But after a while, I was able to find you only for you to try and kill me

Presh: Sorry about that. It’s a good thing you brought the cuffs with you even though I felt it was unnecessary

TeeKay: One can never be to careful (now uncuffing Presh)

Presh: Okay, what happened just now? Why did I think you were Altaternate?!

Presh: Well that someone is gonna pay for messing with my head

TeeKay: (Speaking out) We know you are here! Why don’t you stop playing games and reveal yourself to us

As TeeKay said this, the Mist cleared instantly and what was behind the Mist was a weird looking man in a dark cape and suit. His skin was so pale, like he was ill and his eyes were twinkling. He also had fangs like that of a wild beast. Surrounding Presh and TeeKay, was an army of people just like the man. Although, some of them were more hairy than others and did not have twinkling eyes. Their skins were not also pale and their body structure was that of a vicious dog. The strange man, who seemed to be the leader then spoke up;

The Man: I’m surprised you figured out that we were behind the Mist. Normally, we deceive intruders and allow them kill themselves but you two succeeded in reading the hidden meaning behind the hidden meaning

TeeKay: We come in peace, we mean you no harm!

The man: And I suppose you expect us to believe that, am I correct? What is the guarantee that you are not one of those enemy hunter’s here to wipe us all out?!

TeeKay: That’s because we are heroes

The Man: Heroes! Don’t make me laugh

Presh: It’s the truth

TeeKay: We are here because we need your help!

The Man: With what I suppose?!

Presh: In the next three months, a war is going to break out and every single one of us is in danger

The Man: And why are we all in danger again?

TeeKay: Because you are supernaturals…just like us. I take it that you Pale one’s here; are Vampires and the ones that are not pale; are Werewolves, right?

The Man: Yes, that’s right. But I know for a fact that you both are nothing like us or else I would have been able to tell. But I do know that you both aren’t ordinary humans which is why I will ask again one last time….Who are you?

TeeKay: You are right. We are nothing like you guys but we are still the same. In the city where I come from, I’m known as the Hero KidBae and my friend here is known as Killer Freeze

The Man: So you are trying to tell me that you both are Sterling City’s heroes?

Presh: So you have heard of us?!

TeeKay: Then would you believe this?!

Teekay started running around in super speed while Presh entered Killer Freeze mode once again. The Man and his subordinates were astonished by the display of the two Heroes

The man: So it really is you!

TeeKay: Yeah and like we said earlier, we need your help!

The Man: How about we go inside the school and discuss this further

The man, his subordinate and the two Heroes then left that premises and went into the now visible castle-like building TeeKay and Presh had seen earlier. As they walked in, they came across many dormitories and classrooms. It looked like a boarding house from within. The man then ordered his subordinates who turned out to be his students, to head back to their respective rooms. After that, he led TeeKay and Presh to his office. In his office, he offered the two hero’s snacks and a cup of tea. Then the three went straight to business;

The Man: I apologise for the whole Mist thing out there. I believe we haven’t been properly introduced. My name is Ralph HunterMan. I’m the Head of this institute

Presh: My name is Presh Zenom and this is my friend, TeeKay!

TeeKay: It’s a pŀėȧsurė to meet you!

TeeKay: We got Intel from one of our villains back home and he’s planning a war in the next 3-4 months

Presh: There is an evil mastermind we faced recently and he is planning on rounding up super villains from around the globe and uniting them in destroying there enemies, that is us heroes and your kind

Ralph: That doesn’t sound good at all! So you came here in the hopes that we will join forces?

Presh: We believe that if we can gather as many allies on our side before the war happens, we will be able to take the fight to the villains and stop them before they finish gathering their army

TeeKay: Our friends are also out their in various continents trying to gather as many allies as they can

Ralph: I understand what you are getting at. But it’s not easy for us here! I mean, even if we wanted to help, we are supernaturals. Vampires aren’t exactly day walkers and the Werewolves can only transform to their full form during a full moon. Not to mention our other problems

TeeKay: I see. Isn’t there a way you can help us either way?

Ralph: Vampires are fascinating creatures. We have super strength, night vision, good hearing, fangs, claws and many more abilities. I was even very surprised earlier that I couldn’t keep up with your speed, TeeKay and that is because we Vampires also have super speed. The Werewolves also share these powers with us, or atleast most of our powers. The distinction is the fact that we are dead and they are alive; among other things like, they can transform into wolves, have better combat skills than Vampires and they do not feed on blood. Oh and that Mist you saw outside was a trick of Vampires. We have the ability to make people hallucinate using that Mist

Presh: So that is what that was all about out there!

Ralph: My bad! The thing is, we have been very cautious ever since the Dark Hunters started attacking

TeeKay: Dark Hunters?

Ralph: Yeah. For you to understand, you must know our origin first. Have you ever heard of The Legends?

Presh: You mean about vampires, werewolves and witches?

Ralph: Exactly! Well they are all true. Long ago, there was a powerful sorcerer who had the ability to do very strong magic. He was the ruler of a particular town and was feared across the lands. No enemy dared go to war against him because he could single handedly wipe out an entire army. He was very strong and fierce. In time, he allowed that power to consume him and started behaving rudely, even towards his family members and subjects. His subjects got tired of his behaviour and wanted to overthrow him. But the king was angered when he found out about his people’s betrayal and turned some of them into wild-like looking dogs with fangs and claws and others; he killed. The people he transformed into dogs became Werewolves and since he displayed that kind of magic during the full moon, their transformation was somehow linked to that. They only transformed into their true form whenever there’s a full moon. Their bones will bend and break until the structures of their bodies took the form of a wolf. After the full moon, his subjects will revert back to normal. But their lives were never the same. They had animalistic instincts to hunt and even though they had their physical human forms, they still had some wolf like abilities like super strength, speed of a wolf, fangs and claws

TeeKay: So that’s how werewolves came to be

Ralph: Indeed. And since Werewolves were also human, their traits were hereditary. Every child they give birth too also developed the signs of Werewolves and have their first transformation on their tenth birthday

Presh: That’s just cruel

Ralph: Yeah, it hasn’t been easy for the children born into that lifestyle

TeeKay: And Vampires, what about you guys? How did you come to be?!

Ralph: You remember when I said earlier that the Ruler killed some of his subjects, right?! Well he spared one and transformed him into a blood suċkɨnġ demon you all come to know today as Vampires. When the young man he turned transformed, all he craved was blood. He was still in the transition process though. That is, he was still in between being a human and vampire. But once a vampire drinks blood, the process is complete. The young man the ruler turned was so thirsty and all he could think about was blood. He saw a pile of people on the floor, some dead and some clinging on to life. He couldn’t resist the hunger and finally, he fed. Thus the first Vampire was born. After feeding, he died and woke up a full vampire. When he woke up, the hunger continued and he craved more human blood. So he fed on a lot of humans and killed them. But some of them woke up into the transition stage and fed on more human blood and they also became full vampires. That’s how Vampires came to be. In no time, there was a lot of Vampires

TeeKay: But why would the ruler even spare this man in the first place and then transform him into a vampire?!

Ralph: The man he spared was his loyal second-in-command, even till the very end

Presh: So asides from the first man that was turned whose transformation was directly from the sorcerer, the other Vampires came to be by dying with vampire venom in their systems; am I right?

Ralph: Exactly. Not all humans can die and wake up with vampire venom in their systems but if some of them do die and wake up, they enter the transition stage and have to feed to become a vampire fully. But they were limitations. Apart from the first vampire ever turned, the remaining could not walk under sunlight and certain herbs were lethal to them; werewolves included

TeeKay: Is it because the first vampire was directly transformed by the sorcerer; that’s why these limitations do not apply to him?

Ralph: Exactly! That and I guess the sorcerer made these conditions so as to punish and at the same time, not punish the first vampire. Presh: Because he was loyal to the end?

Ralph: Yeah I guess. And that is how the first and only day walker among the Vampires was born. To kill a vampire, a stake or wooden object has to be pierced in his/her heart and to kill a Werewolf, you have to behead or remove a vital organ; like their hearts from their body, because both Vampires and Werewolves have rapid healing abilities. But only one special stake can kill the first vampire and the tree were that stake can be gotten from, is no longer in existence. So the first vampire is basically immortal and can’t die

Presh: Why do you say that like he is still alive?!

Ralph: You are looking at him

TeeKay: No way!

Ralph: Yeah. I am that ruler’s loyal subject

TeeKay: That means you’ve been alive for centuries now!

Ralph: Yeah. Vampires are kinda immortal you know!

Presh: And the dark hunter’s you mentioned earlier?

Ralph: I’m getting to that. After the first set emerged, that is both Vampires and Werewolves, we fought for which of us would rule our kind since we all decided to move into the woods and live there. I knew most of the Werewolves, so I thought we could all live together as one because we were now supernaturals. But I was wrong. Many of us didn’t want to live together and living together meant having a ruler which so many Werewolves were not in agreement to. They also couldn’t put their ego’s aside to work with Vampires because they believed we were different. So some started making their own families comprising of their kind which they referred to as packs and each pack had a leader who was known as their Alpha. The Vampires also formed a family of their own and took it upon themselves to help any newly turned vampire and also, help those still craving blood to get under control

Presh: Were you guys really able to do that, control the urges?

Ralph: It was hard but we got the hang of it. We stopped feeding on Humans and started feeding on animals instead. And sometimes, we get blood from blood banks we feast on. We have alot of blood in our storage right now and that’s how we Vampires are surviving. And as for the Werewolves, they still eat pretty much anything; especially meat

TeeKay: That explains the tea I guess

Ralph: Yeah. Vampires continued multiplying and Werewolves too. But eventually, the two species could no longer share one territory with the other. So some wolves started becoming violent towards vampires and vampires reciprocated. A war then broke out in the 1960’s between the two kinds and there were a lot of casualties. All the Werewolves lost to the Vampires and some Vampires were staked. But not all Vampires died. I couldn’t prevent the war from happening and a lot of casualties occurred. So I felt like everything that happened back then was my fault

Presh: So, you didn’t fight in the war?

Ralph: I wanted no part in it because I feared that it would result to what it resulted to. But then, I couldn’t allow the hate go on further. So I took in every last member of the Werewolve’s children who remained after losing their parents to the war that I could find and placed them under my care. Being the ruler of the Vampires, I built this institute to help our kind; both Werewolves and Vampires, and also, to train the children along with some of my vampire friends, on control. That continued for generations and here we are today. A lot of our Werewolves and Vampires who mastered control have graduated from this academy and are now pursuing their dreams

Presh: That’s generous. I mean, taking in the Werewolves under your care and helping them

TeeKay: But why do humans fear you? I mean, there was alot of rumors before Presh and I walked into the woods in search of you

Ralph: They are scared because unfortunately, some of the rumors about us are true. Some of us became rogue and continued hunting down humans; endangering them. But I’ve managed to sort that problem out. Although recently, we’ve been getting attacked by a group know as the dark Hunters. We don’t know how they came to be but they have been hunting and killing our kind for a while now. We can’t even leave the school’s premises without getting scared that we won’t come back alive. These Dark Hunters are strong and human; with abilities of sorcerers. Their job is to eradicate every living Vampire and Werewolf until we are no more. I suspect that they got their abilities from sorcerers or they are sorcerers who became Hunters of our kind; to hunt and kill us. Their motive is that I still do not know

Presh: So these Hunters are lurking around the school premises or what?!

Ralph: No, they are not within the premises of the school but I believe that they are around the woods somewhere waiting for us to come out of hiding. That’s why we did that Mist thing on you guys earlier, because we thought you were them

TeeKay: I get it now

Ralph: That’s why even though I want to help you guys, I can’t because of the safety of my students

TeeKay: You don’t need to worry then. I and Presh are here now. We will keep all of you safe. We can call a friend of mine and he will open a portal for us to pass through back to my city if we have to, but we really need your help

Ralph: I don’t know about this. Even if I wanted to help, I can’t ask my students to fight in a war

Presh: Yeah I understand that the decision is a hard one. But if we don’t have them fight now, they might be attacked later on by an army even worse than these Dark Hunters. So please, try and talk to them

Ralph: Okay. I will trust you on this and that’s only because of my students. I will have an ȧssembly tomorrow and inform them about the war. Those willing to join us will still have to train a bit and prepare for the war, especially the werewolves who won’t be able to use their true forms. I will also ready my finest warriors and have them get ready for war

TeeKay: That sounds like a great plan

Ralph: We should be ready before the next 2 months

Presh: That’s good. So in two months time, we should be headed back to Sterling city?!

Ralph: Yeah. And since you guys are going to be staying here with us, I will have them prepare two nice dormitories for you both. It’s all we can afford now

Presh: Don’t worry about it. We don’t mind. Infact, we are grateful you are willing to help us. Thank you!

TeeKay: Yes, thank you!

Ralph: My pŀėȧsurė.. I hope everything turns out okay in the end.
