QuickBae - Chapter 6

Two weeks had gone by and Team QuickBae had no leads on where the Fiersome Foursome could be hiding with Presh. On a certain Thursday evening, after Kayleb had finished his daily routine search of the whole city {for Presh}, he returned to Smart’s Lab;

Ali: Any luck?

Kayleb: Still the same outcome

Ali: I don’t get it, it’s been two weeks and we still don’t have any clue as to where they might be hiding. They didn’t even leave any traces behind neither did they show themselves after their last encounter with you so they aren’t exactly making things easy for us

Dr Smart: What worries me most is Presh’s safety; I hope she is doing alright!

Ali: Not to mention that she is also a Human Dynamo

Kayleb: I wonder why she hid that from us

Dr Smart: We will know the answer after we find her

Ali: I have an idea, what if we have SuperKid help us out?

Kayleb: Yeah that would really help us but I am sure he is busy as it is right now with his own problems. So let’s not bother him

Dr Smart: What about Detective Joey East? Do you think he would be willing to help us?

Kayleb: Oh yeah! I forgot about him. Let me see if I can ask him for help

Ali: But if you do, you will have to reveal your identity to him

Kayleb: He seems like someone we can trust. Besides, we are running out of options here

Dr Smart: Go Kayleb and see if you can convince him to help us

Kayleb then swooshed out of Smart’s lab and went straight to Sterling City Police Department {SCPD} to see Joey. After being granted permission, Kayleb went into Joey’s office;

Joey: How can I help you citizen?

Kayleb: I really need your help detective

Joey: With what?

Kayleb: First, I would like to show you something if you don’t mind

Joey: Why not?!

Kayleb then looked around to see if anyone was around the office and as soon as the coast was clear; he started vibrating his hand at a high velocity;

Joey: (shocked) you are QuickBae!

Kayleb: Sure detective

Joey: Wow! So it’s been…… (Looking up and noticing a beautiful woman with long black hair, dressed in ash cloth listening to their conversation)

Kayleb: (Also noticing the woman) how long have you been standing there? I mean, did you hear anything?

Aeres: Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on your conversation. Hi, my name is Aeres Joey East and it is a pŀėȧsurė meeting you, QuickBae (bringing out her hand to shake Kayleb)

Kayleb: (Shaking Aeres) Wait, Aeres East! As in the detective’s daughter?

Joey: Yeah! She is my daughter alright and don’t worry, your secret is totally safe with us

Kayleb: I sure hope so

Joey East: What are you doing here dear? (Referring to Aeres)

Aeres: I have finished for the day

Kayleb: Do you also work here in the police station?

Aeres: Of course but I am not an officer though, i only work in the ICT and Intel unit

Kayleb: That’s amazing

Aeres: (blushing) Thanks

Joey: So what do you need help with QuickBae?

Kayleb: Please, refer to me as Kayleb, Kayleb Malone and I am in great need of your ȧssistance detective

Kayleb then explained his encounter with the Fiersome Foursome to the detective and how they abducted Presh;

Joey: That group, they were really a handful on us cops

Kayleb: Do you think you might have seen or heard anything regarding them lately?

Joey: I am sorry but I nor my team has heard anything from them

Aeres: Well if they are in this city, I am sure I can find them using satellites!

Kayleb: My Colleague Ali has tried but still no leads

Joey: She is right! My daughter is a genius; she might help you figure something out

Kayleb: In that case, why don’t you both come back to the lab with me?

Joey: Sure!

Kayleb then took Aeres and Joey back to Smart’s lab and to their secret base. It was now located underground in a secret

tunnel under the building. It was like a “Bat Cave” with computers, monitors, technologies and gears. At one corner

was Kayleb’s suit in an enclosed show glass. After Kayleb introduced Aeres and Joey to the rest of the team and vice

versa, Kayleb asked Aeres to start working on her plan using satellites. In no time, she found out the location of the Fiersome Foursome. It was in an abandoned factory which has been restricted to outsiders. Inside it {underground} lays the Fiersome Foursome’s lair;

Kayleb: Wow! That was amazing

Ali: How did you even do that? I mean I have been trying for weeks and I couldn’t pinpoint their location!

Aeres: At first I attempted using satellites to find them but couldn’t so I figured that they should have a skilled programmer within their midst which can prevent them from being detected by satellites. So instead of using satellites, I hacked into ever micro sensor in this city which was placed in every building by the Mayor for Police tracking and that’s how I found them

Joey: My daughter studied Computer Science and that’s why she is this good

Dr Smart: Incredible, I mean we didn’t even think about the micro sensors but you did. Have you considered working for Smart’s lab?

Joey: Sorry Dr Smart, but she is already working for the SCPD

Kayleb: Anyways we now have their location so I will go after them and rescue Presh

Dr Smart: I am coming with; you will need all the help you can get

Joey: I am also coming too; I need to make sure that these criminals are properly detained

Kayleb: Very well then, let’s go!

Kayleb quickly put on his suit while Dr Smart grabbed a new set of vacuum orb and cuff gun. Joey on the other hand was still in uniform and had his pistol with him. The three then left Smart’s Lab and went srtaight to the hideout of the Fiersome Foursome. Leading them deeper into the slightly bright tunnels, were Aeres and Ali back in the Base through communicators. As they got to a certain distance, Johnny Anthony {the guy with rock abilities} appeared;

Johnny: So you guys were still able to find us? Not bad. I thought I had us hidden pretty well but I guess I was wrong

Johnny: Of course and trust me, you guys aren’t going anymore further than this!

Johnny then started raising rocks from the tunnels and launched them at QuickBae, Joey and Dr Smart but the three dodged instantly. Dr Smart then launched the cuffs from the cuff gun but

Johnny saw it coming and crushed it with a rock; claiming he wasn’t going to fall for the same trick twice. Luckily, Dr Smart

brought more cuffs with him and with Joey’s help {distracting Johnny as he was shooting at him while Johnny took cover with his rocks}, he was able to reload the cuff gun. Then Dr Smart told Kayleb to proceed in finding Presh ȧssuring him that both he and Joey would stop Johnny. QuickBae then dashed out of there and headed deeper into the tunnels. Johnny attempted in following him but was stopped by the shot bullets of Joey.

As QuickBae reached another certain place in the tunnel, he encountered Tess Morgan {the girl with wind abilities}. She

tried to prevent QuickBae from passing through but instantly, QuickBae threw vacuum orbs around her which made her

powerless, and then made her unconscious again. Finally, QuickBae got to where Jack was {the leader of the Fiersome Foursome with Fire abilities};

Jack: So you were still able to make it this far, I have got to say; I am impressed

QuickBae: (Angry) Where is Presh?

Jack: Do you mean Killer Freeze? She is right there (pointing at a cage where Presh was inside almost about to pass out)

QuickBae: What did you do to her?

Jack: I merely did nothing; she did that to herself actually. But I did help a bit. You see, she is not just any Human Dynamo like the rest of us but a unique one. Her subconscious mind has a cold side to it and thanks to her abilities; being cold and all, it has an influence on that subconscious mind. It is eating her from within, and if it takes over, then she would be nothing more than her true self; an Ice queen murderer

QuickBae: No way! I am not going to allow it happen…

Jack: I am afraid it is already too late. Normally, when a human dynamo has an ability, factors like elements and the ISEC aren’t the only things that can influence the mutation of that person. Other natural phenomena can be involved and in this case, that is; for Killer Freeze over here, she has always had a side to her that’s extremely cold. She has just managed to keep it in check but her true self is a selfish woman who cares less about anyone else. I was able to gather this much over the past few days she’s been with us

Kayleb: And even if that’s true, I know Presh. She may have been like that but that’s not her now. We all trust her and she’s our friend . So stop filling my head with all these nonsense!

Jack: I see. Well, since she kept refusing to unfreeze Mia {the girl with water abilities}, I continued influencing her until she got to this state she is in. She can

breakdown at any time and become one of us. We could really use a murderer on our team you know

QuickBae: What did you just say about her….how dare you! I told you, Presh isn’t a……

Jack: (Interrupting) Blab all you want but it’s the truth. It’s only a matter of time. Plus, I have managed to convince her a bit of the side she truly belongs and that is with the real side of justice, our side! I just hope she will join us

QuickBae: Well sorry to burst your bubble but Presh is stronger than you think. She will never join you!

Jack: Oh, is that so?!

QuickBae: Why are you even doing this? I know who all of you are or rather who you were before you became human dynamos. You were all good people; I mean you especially risked your life to save an employee of yours, didn’t you? Why did you suddenly change after the incident of that night?

Jack: Easy for you to say, you have no idea what it feels like being treated as scum by the so people you tried to save. After I was treated in the hospital, my entire employees resigned and were terrified of me. They severed all their ties with me because of my abilities; they feared I would one day lose control. The same goes for Mia, Johnny and Tess. People treated them as outcasts and weirdoes because they were different. Johnny was even fired from his job. So tell me, what makes you think that you can understand our pain? You are Sterling city’s hero after all. After realizing that there is no point in caring about the citizens of this city, the four of us decided to make a squad; one that will eliminate anything or anyone that seeks the safety of the people in Sterling city and that is you, QuickBae. We ensured that we terrorized the citizens and we didn’t even care one bit about them; that is why I set fire on estate building a while back, to get rid of everyone in there

QuickBae: So that was you, how could you? They were people and families in there

Jack: I know, all the more reason why I wanted it to collapse and burn to a crisp until you showed up and ruined everything by saving everyone

QuickBae: You monster! I will ensure that I take you down for good. I know your weakness and that is you do not want to lose control, right? That is why you shoot out your flames at certain time intervals. Well, let’s see how much you can keep it up if I keep attacking you. Surely at some point, you have to defend yourself

Jack: (worried) so, are you planning on killing me?

QuickBae: I don’t intend to. Let’s hope for your sake it doesn’t come to that (running towards Presh in an attempt to save her)

Jack: (Infuriated) QuickBae; if I die, then you are all going down with me

Jack then started shooting flames at QuickBae continuously this time; making his body heat up gradually. QuickBae

dodged all his attacks, trying to convince Jack to stop……but it was too late. Jack had reached his limit and then burnt down with a high volume of flames which erupted and started burning up the whole building gradually and fast. But before the building got burnt down, QuickBae had rescued Presh, Dr Smart and Joey. Unfortunately, there was no time to rescue the remaining team members of the Fiersome Foursome. That was the end of them. QuickBae then headed back to lab with the rest and Presh was given a sedative which brought her back to her normal state of mind. She got better and saw everyone around her bed;

Presh: What happened?

Ali: You were in a traumatic state but you are now alright

Dr Smart: Why didn’t you tell us that you were a human dynamo?

Presh: (Looking sad) the night the mercury oven exploded, I was in my room when the wave hit me. I had set my air

conditioner to a very low temperature so I guess the coolness of the atmosphere must have fused with the ISEC in me, giving me frost abilities. I realized my abilities instantly but I didn’t go into a coma, I was perfectly fine and that is why I was able to still come help stabilize Kayleb that night. I also started noticing my subconscious mind afterwards and how it was pushing me to be a murderer. I used to be so selfish and cold. I literally cared about no one else before, until I started working in Smart’s Lab. Maybe, me being so cold before is due to the fact that I never knew a parent’s love. I was raised in an orphanage and they were the only people who catered for me. I struggle to complete my education and I was able to get a degree. Sorry i didn’t tell you guys about this before, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. But you guys changed me…the love you all showed me made me started caring about people again. Plus, there is also the fact that I am a Physician; a bit ironic huh!

Kayleb: We understand Presh and we are sorry you had to go through that. But you will be fine. Your subconscious mind is now alive due to the wave and the ISEC. We will help you gain control over it. So don’t worry about that, we are here and we will protect you anyway we can!

Dr Smart: You better get some rest. We will talk about this more when you have fully recovered

Presh: Who are these guys? (referring to Joey and Aeres)

Kayleb: Well this is Detective Joey East from SCPD and his daughter Aeres. If it weren’t for their help, then we wouldn’t

have been able to find you

Presh: Oh I see, well in that case they both have my thanks (lying down all exhausted and starting to sleep)

The rest of Team QuickBae then left the room for Presh to get enough rest. Kayleb then thanked Joey and Aeres for their help and asked them to join Team QuickBae;

Joey: We would be happy to join your team but I am a police officer, I have duties in the station. But don’t worry, my

daughter and I would see if we can help in any way we can from there

Aeres: And I work in shifts so I can come around whenever I am free if you guys need my help

Ali: (Excited) Really! That would be awesome. Team QuickBae is expanding by the day

Joey: Well we better get going, it’s late already

Kayleb: Thank you once again detective, for all your help!

Joey: You are most welcome. Good night

After saying this, Joey and Aeres turned and left Smart’s lab.
