Re: Devil - Volume 1 Chapter 15

I woke up after meditating and resting for a while, was what I wanted to say but actually no.

I was half-awake the entire time to stay on the lookout for danger and to be ready to guard myself when there was some beasts or demons that found this place.

While I was resting, I heard the sounds of growling, flesh ripping or ground quaking and sky rumbling almost all the time. At one point of time, I had even thought that there were boulders that were falling from the sky.

It was very chaotic and to be honest, I missed my original cave with those imps doing dumb things and also the protection. At least, there were not many problems that I needed to be vigilant with.

I sighed [Well time to train and hunt, I guess…], I thought as I went out from the crevice to search for beasts as well as training myself.

Though before I went out, I tried to probe my body after having more than one risky behaviors and it left a bad taste in my mouth whenever I was not in complete control of my own’s body.

I tried to find out what triggered this problem but so far no results were found. One thing for sure was that it forced me to get stronger whether or not I wanted it or not.

Not that I refused to get stronger but the situation that I now experience itself forced me to.

Back to the hunt, I still saw the same barren, desolate, rocky land with many boulders and cliffs with the only source of foods were beasts’ and demons’ meats and essences.

Currently the only thing I knew about this area here was that there were hell snakes, hell vultures , and the new demons, goblins and imps. Oh, and one unidentified strong demon.

Based on the information, I should be somewhere between snakes and goblins in the hierarchy.

But, I believed that I was still in the lowest strata due to my race and power.

[Let’s try finding imps and goblins first and devour them until any more of them would not make any differences to my level. Then, finding a stronger opponent but still feasible.]

[Good!] Making up my mind, I searched while threading carefully with the aid of the environment.

My luck was very good, I found a group of Normal Goblins with the leader being a Greater Goblin attacking some beasts.

[Woah, I have never seen this beast before]. I tried using [Insight] but I was too far away and no informations were collected.

[Tch… Is there any way to increase the scope of [Insight]?, I’ll be damned if I need to always go near whenever I want to use [Insight] and like Inpuji has said, higher ranked demons will know immediately if someone is spying on them].

Left with no choices, I sneaked towards the fight to see what beasts were the goblins fighting with.

[Hell Fire Lizardling]

Description: A newborn reptile born in Hell that consumes firestones or any fire-based material as it’s primary diet. It likes to bathe in magma and usually travel in a small groups due to being weak alone.

[Fire Ball]

Description: Spews out a fireball that deals moderate damage to enemies. May also cause blast that deals miniscule splash damage to the surrounding.

I read it’s information and [Fire Ball] was really a useful damaging skill. If I ate it, would I be able to obtain it?

However, I was frowning seeing this group of goblins was more organized due to the leadership of the Greater Goblin.

The leader was shouting and giving command making the lizardlings harder to keep up with the attacks of the goblins.

Finally, sensing that the lizardlings were going to lose, the group of goblins’ attacks were becoming fiercer and the lizardlings started to use [Fire Ball]s in order to survive.

One of the [Fire Ball]s hit the Greater Goblin and triggered the blast damage resulting him being covered in dust.

Although after the dust was schathed, the Greater Goblin survived and I even saw the wounds could be actually seen as superficial.

The Greater Goblin grinned and immediately slammed himself against the lizardling. He bashed his head using his fist until the lizardling finally lost it’s life.

The other lizardlings instinctively sensed that they were going to be devoured turned tails and attempted to flee away from the fight.

“Chase after them! Don’t let any of them alive!” ordered the Greater Goblin.

While the normal goblins were chasing the injured lizardlings, I knew that this was the best chance to ambush the leader of the goblins.

I pounced towards the leader while also using my [Enhanced Shadow Claw]. I intended to kill him in one swoop so I targeted his neck.

The leader, sensing death was approaching him immediately used all of his defensive skills and tried to guard my attack with his arms as I saw that his arms glowed a bit.

I could feel that there was a little resistance but my claw still went through and pierced his neck.

A short moment later though, I frowned because I also took a bit of a damage. [This is new? When did he attack me?].

The goblins, seeing their leader were killed, were shocked. In their mind, their leader was very smart and strong.

I quickly snapped out of it remembering where was I now and pushed my thoughts temporarily aside and quickly killed some of the goblins.

Without the commands from the leader, the goblins were like cattles waiting to be slaughtered.

After some time, [Tch… Some of the goblins ran away and I could only kill one more lizardling before all of them also fled successfully].

I quickly dragged the two lizardlings’ and Greater Goblin’s carcasses to a secluded spot to feast.

First the Greater Goblin, when I devoured some of his flesh, I felt a mild heat in my chest. I was surprised to see that this goblin had an affinity with fire.

[Some of the essences are compatible with the user. Affinity with fire increased by 0,5%]

[That’s new for me. Affinity with fire increased. What did it mean by that? Anyhow it is a good thing if it is compatible with me, I think.

Ah I see the damage that I had taken from the Greater Goblin could be because of one of his fire based skill].

I quickly ate the two Hell Fire Lizardlings. I was expectant of the result because of the word fire in it’s species.

I didn’t get [Fire Ball] however my affinity with fire increased more than when I was eating the goblin.

What could affinity be used for? Inpuji had said that the condition for evolution varied from each other. Maybe as a requirements?

And I must say, that was the best meal I had had until now. The flesh of the lizards what could I say other than my body was really craving them.

At the end of the day I learned two things. One was that I got an affinity with fire, maybe because of my evolution, and I took little damage against fire attack.

And the other one, Some beasts or demons that you devoured could be compatible and gave out more benefits which meant that my primary target this time was fire type beasts or demons. Moreover it tasted great.

So I left the other goblins’ carcasses and chased the fleeing lizardlings using the track that was left by them. I also remembered something noteworthy and left a mark to avoid getting lost again.

I was going to eat the goblins but this discovery made me forgot about them. Their tastes were actually bland. If it was not for getting stronger, I didn’t bother eating them.

I quickly followed the Hell Fire Lizardlings for fear of losing them.

As I was following them, I realized that the temperature was also getting hotter by the second. “Magma!” I exclaimed.

At last, I saw that the lizardlings burrowed themself underground. I was late just for a second.

I looked at surrounding and I saw the familiar sea of magma and rocks. [Well, can’t help it. I think I will wait in some distances to check whether or not there are fire lizardlings live here].

Personally, I also felt like this place was very beneficial to me and my body was more comfortable here surrounded by the heat.

Now that I was thinking about it, after evolving I only tried adapting my body then directly transported to the tower.

I didn’t think that there were any other effects. It seemed that I also need to experiment a bit and I thought about an absurd idea.

[What will happen if I drink magma directly?] I gulped at the sudden thought of that.

Thankfully, my thoughts were interrupted when I saw some Hell Fire Lizardlings showed up from the ground.

I was ecstatic to find out that this was indeed the lair or nest of the lizardling. Today’s menu Hell Fire Lizardlings fresh caught in the wild. I licked my lips salivating at the taste of the lizards.
