Re: Devil - Volume 1 Chapter 28
I decided to wait until at least both sides were exhausted then I would take action depending on the circ.u.mstances.
I was really impressed by the teamwork of the goblins as they managed keep up with the [Abyssal Dog].
Disregarding the pain and injuries, the [Abyssal Dog] charged full force against one of the goblins and smashed it to a pulp.
With only 4 goblins left, the dog finally gained the upper hand albeit injured. Panicked, the goblins were not calm anymore and they already looked very drained.
“Now should be fine, I think.” as I jumped out of hiding and fired multiple [Fire Ball]s towards the dog.
The dog howled for the last time before it fell and dissipated along with the black substances.
The goblins after seeing the dog died were weary against me as they didn’t know if I was a foe or a friend.
I approached them as they quickly put up a guard against me. ‘Now then, how do you appear friendly to a demon?’
“You listen and follow me?” I said to them with a bit of commanding tone.
The goblins looked at each other with confused look on their faces for a while before they nodded their heads.
Before we continued surviving this floor, the 4 goblins looked at their dead comrade one last time and muttered something in their language before the corpse scattered into black particles.
Didn’t expect them to understand me but let’s see how would it go. At least, they weren’t indifferent with their dead comrade, if not, then it would be very dangerous for me to team up with them.
So, I and my new meat shields continued to walk throughout the floor. I was in the back due to me being a mage and to keep a safe distance from them as well.
The goblins were still wary and didn’t mind it all. Maybe they thought that I was only a single imp and it was easy for them to kill if I were to betray them.
They also sometimes secretly whispered something at each other, not like I didn’t notice it.
I managed to see the other goblins’ [Status] using my [Insight] and as I had expected, they were all at least level 90, on the brink of evolution.
One of them was even a [Greater Goblin] but it was very low level but their [Status]es looked more or less liked these. The [Greater Goblin]’s skills were the same only it’s level was level 3.
Level 90 – No Name – No Title
Species: Normal Goblin (Common)
Unranked
Skills
Enhanced Fist
Lesser Toughness
Lesser Blunt Weapon Mastery
Our temporary teamwork was finally put to a test when we encountered another [Abyssal Dog]. We were already experienced dealing with one dog so theoretically we should be able to easily kill it.
I quickly positioned myself a bit backwards and ordered the goblins to encircled the [Abyssal Dog] like last time.
The goblins hesitated for a while before they did what I asked them to do with two of the goblins focused more on me than the dog.
I shrugged it off and prepared to fire multiple [Fire Ball]s. Of course, I didn’t want to quickly disband the team so I carefully fired the [Fire Ball]s to avoid the goblins.
The goblins seeing this, sighed in relief as they finally focused on the dog. Not much to say about this fight here as our weaknesses finally were covered.
The goblins lacked firepower and I lacked meat shield to tank the hits. With our weaknesses gone, the [Abyssal Dog] stood no chance as it finally fell down in matter of minutes. No casualties.
After our first battle as a team, the goblins were less wary of me and relaxed their guards although they still had not spoken up to me but I didn’t mind it as what were the chances I would meet them again in Hell or here.
Curious, I checked how many beings were still in this floor.
[Tower of Babel Floor 3 Area 5]
Alive: 66 Dead: 34
The rate of deaths in this floor astounded me because it was faster than my previous floors. Considering the main objective, it was possible.
…
And that was the fourth [Abyssal Dog] that I had killed. We encountered another [Abyssal Dog] but this one was easier than the one before and we killed it swiftly.
However, I sensed a bad feeling was brewing in this floor. I knew that I always said that in the Tower but I felt that the Tower wanted to force us to be faster clearing the objectives as if there was a time limit on each floor.
I told the goblins to rest up quick then we would continue to kill the Abyssal Beasts and if possible other beings to ensure no bloodshed in this group.
After killing 2 [Abyssal Dog]s flawlessly in the eyes of the goblins, they took my words seriously even the [Greater Goblin].
…
At the other part of the floor…
“Damn it… I really have the greatest luck to encounter two [Abyssal Dog]s at the same time.” as the man with the leather armor prepared his knives.
“Derek, stop complaining and quickly bait one dog away from me and wait for me to kill the other one.” said John as he readied his sword.
“Chill out old man… Let’s see here, I think I will play with you.” The man named Derek threw some of his knives towards the eyes of one of the [Abyssal Dog]s in hopes of angering one of them.
“Come here, you mutt! Raaaaa”. John charged at the other dog as he swung his sword. The dog easily sidestepped and launched itself to bite down him.
“Hmmph…” Yellow aura covered his left arm as he swung his arm to knockback the dog. “Don’t underestimate me!”
…
Was it me or did I hear the familiar sound of fighting? An [Abyssal Dog] managed to escape from the goblin’s encirclement and charged itself towards me.
Fortunately I was on guard when fighting especially when there were 2 [Abyssal Dog]s in front of me and easily avoided the charge.
“Make sure that other dog doesn’t get near me!” I shouted towards the goblins.
While the goblins were busy dealing with the [Abyssal Dog], I turned towards the [Abyssal Dog] and focused firing my [Fire Ball]s on the head.
I buffed myself secretly and casted [Enhanced Shadow Claw] on my claw to accelerate the battle as I noticed that the goblins were having a hard time keeping the dog at bay.
I traded blows with the weakened dog be it clawing or skewering the dog’s body and finished it off with a [Fire Ball] on my other arm.
I quickly canceled my [Enhanced Shadow Claw] and helped the goblins to kill off the remaining dog.
We were injured after the battle with 2 of the [Abyssal Dog]s and opted to rest first before continuing our way.
[Tower of Babel Floor 3 Area 5]
Alive: 42 Dead: 58
“Really 58 deaths already?” I muttered silently.
[Tower of Babel Floor 3 Area 5]
Alive: 38 Dead: 62
“What?!” I closed my eyes for a moment before 4 more beings died. What the heck was wrong with this floor?
…
“Whew… That was a good exercise. We already rest enough. Let’s continue, Derek!”
“You really are strong taking on that [Abyssal Dog] solo.” replied Derek as he stood up and stretched his body.
“Hey wait up. Don’t leave me behind!” Derek chased after John until he saw that John was standing still looking serious.
“What’s with you?” asked Derek.
“Look in front of you!” John replied as what he saw in front of him was a giant door.
If our protagonist saw the giant door he would quickly notice that the giant door was the same as the first time he had teleported in the Tower.
“A boss room…wait! an Abyssal Boss?!” Derek said in shock.
“Correct… We can either wait for a while for more people or take on the boss but truthfully fighting an Abyssal Boss is suicide with only the both of us.” said John.
“But what are the chances other surviving beings are humans or at least be able to cooperate with?”
“I don’t know but for now we should not get in first and wait for the situation. Either way to get out of this floor you need to kill all the Abyssal Beasts or kill 4 other beings.”
