[Reberu] ga Arunara Agerudesho? Mobukyara ni Tensei Shita Ore wa Gēmu Chishiki o Ikashi, Hitasura Reberu o Age Tsudzukeru - CH 124
[Unknown History]
“Hihiiin!”
“Shaddap!?”
The next day, as I’m sleeping soundly in the stable, Freon’s loud neigh rings in my ear, startling me awake.
It’s 5 am sharp, exactly the time for the sun to come out.
It’s a healthy time to wake up, and I manage to not waste my time by oversleeping—which I usually do—so as a thanks I brush Freon’s body before we leave the stable together.
Well, when you get up early, the first thing you gotta do is of course leveling.
I mean, I’ve got so many skills to train in. From the ones I usually use such as Swordsmanship, Flame Sword, and Shishū, to light muscle training, Disguise, knitting and etc… I would never have enough time to train. Needless to say, I’ve thought up a way to train in them all in one session to get maximum efficiency.
Hence, the sight of ‘a man with a number of costumes held under his armpits repeatedly swinging a sword around while smoke coming off his feet, squatting while rotating and putting on and removing his clothes, and applying and cleaning make up using some threads on horseback’ was born, but fortunately people quickly got used to it and no one came to bother me as long as I didn’t injure anyone.
“Uwa!? What’s with that guy!?”
“Eek, a suspicious person!”
“W-w-what’s wrong with you! Don’t come this way!!”
Come to think of it, this is the Elf Territory, not the academy.
Later that morning, I receive a rather long sermon from Iris and Ethel who found out I had been taken in by the local law enforcements.
Ethel told me: “We’ve been given the permission to peruse the great library in the afternoon, so can you please stay quiet until then!? Don’t mess around, you hear!?” Hence, I decide to head for the great library with Iris by riding Freon because I’m bored to death.
“Will we be allowed to go in? Ethel-san said that we can peruse the great library only in the afternoon.”
“That’s for the sections that requires the permission of the saintess. We’re not forbidden from perusing the sections that’s open to the public.”
“Oh, I see~.”
“Huhuhiiiin.”
And so, we arrived at the great library.
It is technically located immediately adjacent to the cathedral, but the cathedral’s yard is so big it’ll take more than a couple of minutes walking from there to here.
You can describe the appearance of the great library as ‘gray rectangle’.
The building, which looks like a quadrangle formed by extracting two-thirds from the width and depth of the cathedral, has a plain design without any decorations, seemingly so as to function as a place for storing and managing lots of books, and nothing else. Hence, why I said it can only be described as ‘gray rectangle’.
However, the building is flawless and grand in size, causing it to give off a different kind of majesty from the cathedral.
“Alright, we’re gonna go inside now, so wait here, Freon. Here’s some water and food for you if you get thirsty or hungry. Also, if you bite and pull this device, the knot will come loose and you will be free. If, by any chance, you hear me calling for you, take off the rope and come get me. Here, try it.”
“Hu… hahu… hihiiin!”
“You did it! You’re so smart, ain’t cha!”
“Snort snort!”
“No, you have to tie it properly, Sakurai-san.”
Horses cannot enter the building, so Freon will be waiting in a designated parking lot-like open space just outside it.
By the way, I ignore Iris’s words and reinstall the device that’s made so that horses don’t run away loosely.
Now, Freon can get away at any time. Of course, I didn’t forget to equip him with the ‘Three Sky Series’ before heading to the reception desk of the great library.
Unfortunately, just as you can’t bring a horse in, turns out you can’t bring a weapon in either, so I leave my sword at the reception desk which is at the entrance of the great library and enter it.
The first thing I see the moment I got indoors, which has carpet flooring, is a large number of 4-5 meters tall bookshelves and the ceiling further above them.
They are lined up vertically and horizontally, forming many aisles. And of course, countless number of books were tightly packed in them.
Also, it looks like magic circles are engraves on the ceiling to maintain the temperature and humidity throughout the year so as to prevent the books and documents from deteriorating, and some staff members who seems to be knowledgeable about magic can be spotted moving around to replenish their energy that is magic power. All that is explained by Iris to me who’s clueless about magic after she saw through them in a glance.
“Still, this sure is unusual. I never imagined Sakurai-san would kill time by reading books instead of training,” Iris says with a bunch of picture books in her arms when I go down the ladder that slides along the lines of bookshelves after taking a book off one.
I can’t deny that I’m only thinking about leveling all the time, and I do want to get my hands on the quests exclusive to the Elf Territory and legally go around smashing the heads of bad guys.
But that’ll only mean escaping from the problem of the academy dungeon right in front of me. Besides, their rewards are only a paltry amount of experience points.
Hence, to find the solution for that and search for information that may be useful for leveling, I made the decision to learn about the stuffs I don’t know about this world while reining in my desires.
“Most of my knowledge comes from my previous life. I don’t know which may be useful for this dungeon blockage problem, hence why I’m reaching out for information that can only be found in this world.”
“I see. I was worried that you were browsing for books to steal, but looks like it was unnecessary.”
“How did you—I mean, hahaha, there’s no way I’d do that!”
“But it crossed your mind, right?”
“…………”
I avert my eyes from Iris, and she smacks me on the head, “Stupid!”
I mean, if there’s useful information, of course you’d like to hog it to yourself, right…?
“‘Anti-Dragon Total War (Dragon Raid)’, huh.”
What may be the information I don’t know about this world?
When I was thinking about that, the first thing that came to my mind was the word ‘history’.
Of course, I have all the big events that happened in this world and disclosed in the game in my head, but they are all related to the main story and character scenarios.
These events may actually have occurred in this world, but they are just a piece of ‘history’ left in this great library.
The information on the nation’s best kept secret that we’re going to inspect this time, that is the fact that ‘dungeon is a kind of monster’, is a ‘historical information’ which may dispel the doubt about how human beings formed and developed communities in this monster-infested land.
That being said, I may also find some clues in the recorded history and the technologies or literatures that has spread throughout the years… with that in mind, I pick up an history book and spread it open on my desk.
As I’m flipping through the pages using the speed-reading technique I learned in my previous life, I notice the words ‘Dragon Raid’,
One of the reasons why these words piqued my interest is because the fact there’s the word ‘dragon’ among them, which was the strongest kind of monster in the game. The other is because the event was recorded very recently, merely three years ago.
It says that it in the attack of the dragon, which hadn’t been sighted in the last hundred years, less than 10% of the total of 700 elites survived. Ethel’s father is included in the list of those who fell in battle; even Uncle, the ‘Sword Saint’, came back half dead, it seems.
It says that, the dragon brought about the appearance of the Evil Dragon Followers. They performed terrorist acts and fought against the nation’s knights. They appeared all over the nation at the same time; many civilians were killed and security deteriorated.
It says that, animals and tamed monsters panicked and went berserk sensing the approach of the dragon, resulting in a series of accidents and many injuries.
“I had no idea… I can only remember I was practice-swinging during that time…”
From what I’ve read, it caused a big uproar, but I only remember Uncle giving me a sword and I went like: “I got a good sword, wohooo!” before joyfully practice-swinging on the riverbed like usual back then.
I even remember the amount of experience points I gained on each day, so there should be no problem with my memory, so it’s either there was nothing happening around me, or I didn’t pay any attention to the uproar that occurred around me… it’s most likely the latter.
Still, for Uncle to be left in a half dead state, it must have been a really dangerous.
Considering the timing, it might have been the battle in which he lost his life in the game.
Then the words that Uncle said when he handed me the sword: “It seems there’s nothing I can teach you anymore,” meant… just how strong the dragons in this world are for Uncle who are the ‘Sword Saint’ to be prepared to die fighting one of them? They must yield tons of experience points.
Putting that aside, this means Higaki robbed me of Uncle’s keepsake, eh.
That’s why Uncle was so harsh to her… although she just reaped what she had sowed, I can’t help but feel sympathy for her.
As such, I decide to point out this fact to Higaki to soothe myself when I return to the academy in case I don’t manage to get any clue here as I turn the pages of the book.
