Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 123
Since she had her scepter, Jasmine decided to pay her family a visit before going back to the realm of immortals. When she teleported, she was shocked when she didn’t end up in Efinchil but near the mountain where she met Goldie.
She smiled. Her powers knew what she wanted more than she did. She had wanted to adopt one of Goldie’s cubs if the leopard could allow it. She remembered the way to the cave so she went over, and found the cubs playing around and nibbling on some meat.
“Hello there, where’s your mother?” She asked and chuckled. How could she converse with leopard cubs?
As if on cue, Goldie returned from hunting and placed her prey on a pile of grass. She then rushed to Jasmine and nuzzled against her waist.
“I missed you too.” She rubbed Goldie’s head at the same time as the cubs rushed to rub their heads against her legs. She took one up and held him in her arms.
“Do you want me to take you home as a pet? Dahlia will definitely love you.”
Goldie roared and she laughed. “I can’t take you to my house. Mama and papa will be scared to death.”
In the end, Goldie let her take the male cub but that was only when she promised to take her back to the realm of immortals soon.
….
“Mama, papa, I’m home!” She announced when she arrived at Harry’s house.
“Jasmine!” Dahlia was the first to throw herself into her arms. She was still wearing her school uniform and had run downstairs as soon as she heard Jasmine’s voice, even leaving her shoe behind.
“There’s my lovely sister. I missed you!” She kissed her cheeks before letting Dahlia pull her towards her room.
“You came at the right time. Come, I’ll show you how mama and papa redecorated my room.”
“Slow down.” Jasmine laughed as she tried to resist the pull but they had already arrived at her room.
Harry and Sophie were discussing what paintings to put up on the walls when the excited sisters burst in.
“Slow down, you are going to ruin everything by bumping into them.” Sophie chuckled at her daughter’s excitement and noticed Jasmine when she turned. She pulled her into a hug. “You are here.”
“I promised to drop by.” She kissed Sophie’s cheek, then hugged Harry who was stunned to see her.
“Does Dahlia want a change in style?” She looked around at the room that looked different in every way. The previously purple curtains had been swapped for white ones and the flowery bedding had been replaced with bold-colored sheets. She looked at the new white carpet and turned to Dahlia in surprise. “Don’t you like purple anymore?”
The girl shook her head, looking proud of herself. “I’ll be a teen soon. I’m ditching my childish style.”
Jasmine smiled gently. She didn’t think there was anything childish about flowers, purple and pink but she petted her head. “Good for you. I’ll make you clothes to match your room.”
“Really?” She looked up at her excitedly, then shook her head. “You don’t need to. I understand that you are very busy.”
“It doesn’t take much time.” She promised. If it took long, she would simply do it in the realm of sloths. She leaned to her level and whispered. “I have something for you.”
She then distracted her parents and led Dahlia out to the backyard where she had set up a cage for the cub.
“Goldie!” Dahlia yelled excitedly then realized that it couldn’t be possible. Goldie couldn’t have remained a cub for all those years.
Jasmine brought the cub out and hugged him. “Close enough. He is Goldie’s cub.”
Dahlia was surprised as she stuck out her hand to rub his small head. “Goldie has a cub? What’s his name?”
“He doesn’t have one yet. I brought him to be your pet. You should name him.” She held it out for Dahlia to hold. As if they were meant to be best friends since birth, the cub licked her hand and made itself comfortable in her arms.
“How cute! I’ll think of a cute name for him. I would have named him Dairon but that’s your boyfriend.” She stopped and looked at Jasmine whose expression had stiffened in the slightest. “Why doesn’t he accompany you here anymore? Did he do something to hurt you?”
“No, of course not.” She laughed awkwardly, not wanting to bother Dahlia with her relationship matters. “What could he possibly do?”
Dahlia frowned. “Of course he hurt you. Can I beat the crap out of him? My sister is perfect. No, my sister is too good for him. How dare he hurt you?”
Jasmine burst into laughter, making the latter glance at her questioningly. “What’s so funny?”
“I didn’t know my little sister could be so fierce. Look, your cub is scared.” She pointed down at the cub that looked like he wanted to hide away.
Dahlia adjusted her arms but still looked angry. “I want to summon him and give him a piece of my mind.”
“You don’t need to. Whatever we fought about is already settled.” She lied. Although she had only said it to calm Dahlia down, she didn’t feel so angry anymore. She understood Dairon a lot more now. She had not tried to feel what he felt for her in fear that it could disappoint her. However, she was now certain that his feelings for her had nothing to do with her similarities to Catalyah.
For some reason, her mind had been filled with memories of Catalyah’s life. She knew through them that the only similarity between them was their physical appearance. It wasn’t enough ground for him to love her. Not to mention, she didn’t even look a lot like Catalyah when they first met. Her appearance was yet to revert to her demigoddess form.
“Are you even listening to me?” Dahlia was frustrated when she realized that she was having a one-sided conversation.
Jasmine pulled out of her thoughts with a nod. She didn’t realize it but she was smiling absent-mindedly.
“You’re a lost cause.” Dahlia sighed. How could she still be thinking about him and smiling if he hurt her? “Whatever. If that demigod comes here again, he will have to answer to me.”
A maid came to find them and told them that Sophie had made them snacks and wanted them to go back into the house. When she had a clear look at what Dahlia was cradling, she shrieked and ran back into the house in tandem.
Jasmine and Dahlia burst into laughter before deciding to keep him away in his cage. It would take some time to convince Sophie and Harry that she had tamed the cuba and it wouldn’t hurt anyone. Before then, Dahlia had to keep his presence a secret.
…
Jasmine was shocked when she saw Dairon as soon as they arrived in the living area.
“What are you doing here?” She demanded.
He stood to meet her across the room and had a bright smile on his face. “I knew where to find you. I miss you.”
She frowned. How did he know that she had completed the mission?
“I don’t care why you are here. Just leave.”
“Jasmine!” Sophie reprimanded her.
“You can’t be rude to our guest.” Harry seconded.
Her mouth dropped open. “Are you siding with him now? Did he compel both of you onto his side?”
Dahlia tiptoed to whisper in her ear. “Mama and papa like him now, since he forced the evil goddess to lift the curses on mama and I.” She explained then immediately added, “Don’t worry. You are more important to me. I don’t care who saved my life, I will still beat the crap out of them if they mess with you.”
She smiled subtly and glared at Dairon. Although she wanted to kick him out, she couldn’t deny the fact that the people she loved would die if he didn’t save their lives. If she was just a substitute in his eyes, he wouldn’t go out of his way to care for the people around her.
But he had still betrayed her trust! She didn’t know what to think anymore. Although she was finally convinced of his love for her, she would still have preferred it if he told her the truth from the start.
He didn’t blatantly lie to her but he made it seem as though he had never been in love before. It was her fault to think that she was his first love but it hurt her nonetheless. Then there was his reaction to the mention of Catalyah. Perhaps she was being childish but his explosive temper made her feel like an insignificant ant compared to Catalyah.
She didn’t realize that her eyes stung until he closed in and wiped the tears seeping from her eyes.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered and kissed the tears off her cheeks. “I’m sorry I hurt you.”
