Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 133
Alaya scanned Jasmine and considered ignoring her but when their eyes met, she realized that this was not just a random demigoddess living on Dairon’s island. She was his partner and most importantly, his mate. Deciding that she might help her pass the message to Dairon and he would probably believe it if it was delivered by his mate, she sighed deeply. “There are things you will never understand. I’m not here to discuss with you. Could you let him know that he needs to be careful?”
She paused for a while and scanned Jasmine yet again, trying to check if she was a water demigoddess. If she was, the information she would give might put Dairon in more danger. Recalling that Jasmine’s elements were fire and earth, she was relieved. “Please let him know that the sharks are after him and will probably make their move soon.”
Jasmine immediately understood that she was referring to her parents. “I can do that.”
“Thank you.” Alaya was relieved. She knew that her son was in the mansion so she prepared to slip away before he could catch her here.
“Goddess Alaya.” Jasmine called as the latter opened the door.
Alaya turned with one hand still holding the doorknob. “What is it?”
“He misses you a lot.” Jasmine lowered her voice even though she was certain that Dairon couldn’t possibly follow her.
As expected, Alaya was taken aback. She thought through Jasmine’s words and shook her head in a mixture of confusion, joy and relief. “That’s not what he said to me.” She sounded uncertain.
“That’s not what he told me either and he might be mad at me for telling you this.” Jasmine confessed. “You miss your parents, don’t you?” She asked.
“You…” Alaya looked shocked and she was one second away from asking how Jasmine knew.
“You miss them even though they treated you the way they did.” She continued. “Why wouldn’t Dairon miss you? He didn’t even have the chance to be close to you for a day.”
Alaya’s eyes teared up as she thought back to how she had to leave her son even though she didn’t want to. If only she was stronger back then.
She blinked her tears away and stopped dwelling on the past, grabbing Jasmine’s hands instead. “Jasmine, could you help me get through to him? He hates me so much.” Or at least he claimed to. After hearing Jasmine’s reassurance, it no longer hurt her to think that she had not been able to get close to her son all these years.
Jasmine looked down at her hands that were in Alaya’s but rejected her. “I can’t do that.”
“I understand.” Alaya let go of her hands, knowing that nothing good could ever come out of forcing the impossible to happen. She flashed a smile of gratefulness. “Thanks for letting me know that he misses me.”
“What I meant is, I can’t help you get through to him. It’s up to you.” Jasmine clarified when she realized that the latter had misunderstood her words. “You are the only one who can create a connection with him on your own. I can only tell you his hideaways and what he likes but I can’t help you restore a bond that was lost right after his birth.”
“Thank you!” Alaya was grateful even though Jasmine didn’t think she had offered much help. She uncontrollably pulled Jasmine into a hug and pulled away when she realized what she had done in her over excitement.
“I’m sorry. I was just too happy…”
“It’s okay.” Jasmine placed her hand on the latter’s shoulder, interrupting her.
Alaya smiled, relieved that she had not been blamed. She took a step back. She had not had a friend in ages and Jasmine was warm and friendly, so she unconsciously opened up. “To tell you the truth, you are different from Catalyah.”
Jasmine chuckled when she remembered her expression when she called her Catalyah. “Were you scared of her?”
Alaya shook her head with a slight frown. “She wasn’t scary.”
“Unfriendly?”
“Of course not. She had more friends than the sand. She just looked down on water deities too much.” Alaya felt displeased about it, especially the fact that the goddess who despised water deities ended up being her son’s mate. How did they even get along?
Jasmine was reading the latter’s mind so she understood why Alaya thought Catalyah was spiteful.
“She didn’t.” She said to correct Alaya’s assumption. “She frowned when you hugged her not because she despised you but because she felt an excruciating sting. Her wings were just so sensitive that it would hurt if anyone touched her spine even if they were retracted. She would only hug deities who knew not to touch it.”
As expected, Alaya was shocked.
She had been shocked when she found out from Catalyah’s memories too, because the first one she had seen was Catalyah looking like she was being forced to endure hugs from her friends. It made her out to be too arrogant when in actual sense, she was enduring what other deities would probably have announced to the entire realm of immortals.
“I never tried to understand her.” Alaya repranded her. “How could you read my mind anyway? And how did you know Catalyah’s exact situation?”
“Good luck trying to lure Dairon to your side.” Jasmine took a rapid turn to change the topic.
Alaya didn’t try to force her into explaining anything. She nodded with a smile and headed for the door. “Thanks.”
As soon as Alaya left, Dairon appeared behind Jasmine and wrapped his arms around her.
“Ah!” She yelped and jumped, her heart racing as she realized that she had bumped into his firm chest. She turned around and glared at him. “You scared the crap out of me.”
“Weren’t you expecting me?” He plucked at her ears playfully with a grin.
She gave him a dirty look and pulled out of his arms as if afraid he would know what she had just told Alaya.
She wasn’t lying to her and was doing it for his sake but if he knew, he might put an end to whatever methods Alaya was planning to use without giving her a chance to try.
“I’ll go back to my room.” She slipped away.
Before she could reach the door, he grabbed her hand and yanked her to his chest.
“What?” She looked at him questioningly.
He kissed her neck as his arms wrapped tightly around her body with no intention of letting go. “Can you sleep here tonight?”
“What, are you scared of the dark?” She joked, making fun of him. “Do you want me to read you a bedtime story or sing you a lullaby and help you kill the monsters under your bed?”
“Or you could kiss me to sleep.” He ignored her crap.
“Let me think.” She exaggeratedly hummed with her forefinger on her chin as she deliberately made him wait, only to drop a bummer. “I think my bed is more comfortable. How about you name a pillow after me and hug it to sleep instead?”
He grabbed her and tickled her sides, holding her tightly when she tried to escape. She laughed so hard that her ribs felt like they would break if she kept laughing but the demigod behind her didn’t let her go.
“Okay, okay! I’ll sleep in your bed!” She conceded.
He let her go and she caught her breath, glaring at him for smirking. That was too easy for him, wasn’t it?
“Then you better get ready for bed before I start pursuing your topic of discussion with Goddess Alaya.” He smirked.
She shot him a glance. She was preparing to sleep with him anyway, but his statement caught her off guard. “What are you talking about? Goddess Alaya and I didn’t discuss anything that should concern you. Are you going to start snooping on what females discuss?”
“I see.” He smiled, deliberately dragging his words to make her question what he knew.
“I guess our mother-son bond—or lack thereof—is none of my concern, then.” He raised his eyebrows.
Her eyes widened as she whipped her head to look at him. How did he know? Was he reading her mind? No way. He had promised not to do that anymore.
Knowing how shocked she was, he smiled. “You can hide things from a demigod but if it’s a demon, discussing behind closed doors is meaningless. There wouldn’t be a difference if you talked about it in the open.”
“What do you mean?” She thought about a book she had read that mentioned a little about demons before and wondered whether the information was true. “Were you in this room while we discussed, but made yourself invisible so we wouldn’t see you?”
He shook his head but didn’t answer her, letting her think on her own.
She tapped her cheek as she thought of all possibilities until she found it. It was only possible for him to have found out that his grandparents were plotting something if he heard them.
She looked at her in shock.
“Your hearing is insane.”
