Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 134
Song Recommendation: Can I have this dance—Lucy Thomas, Will Callan.
He chuckled at her shocked face. She knew that she had a lot to ask about but he didn’t want to discuss such matters all night. “Let’s get to bed.”
She disappeared to her room and returned in her nightgown, hugging a pillow to her chest. He looked at her in confusion. “I hope you don’t mind me bringing my pillow.”
He lied down on his side of the bed and patted the space beside him for her to go over. She looked at him then at the edge farthest away from him, and climbed in. He pulled her in his arms before she could roll over and placed her on his chest, locking her using his strong arms so she couldn’t get away—not that she was trying to.
They faced each other as she found a comfortable position to sleep.
“Do you want me to turn the lights off?” He asked.
She looked into his eyes then down at his chest. She smiled when she thought of the time they spent the night together in the human realm, because he had made them pretend to be husband and wife.
His hand snaked down her back and prompted her to look up into his eyes. By his wide smile, she guessed that he was also thinking about that night.
“It’s alright. We can stay this way for a while more.” She whispered.
He looked at her beautiful face and wanted nothing more than to kiss it. He liked the idea of staying in the light this way so he would see her clearly, though he would still see her as much as he wanted if they turned off the lights.
She was looking at his captivating face and saw him lick his lips in anticipation. Her heartbeat sped up as his face closed in on hers. Her eyes fluttered and closed at the same time as his lips brushed against hers. He held the back of her neck to pull her even closer, so her body was firmly pressed against his. She placed her hand on his shoulder as their tongues clashed.
She didn’t try to fight it this time, letting herself drown in the passion of his kiss. He nipped her lower lip and sucked it demandingly. His fingers trailed down her neck and found the neckline of her nightgown, which he pushed down her shoulders.
Tension pooled in the pits of her stomach when his hands brushed against the bare skin of her shoulders. She was still a little frightened, feeling a rush of nerves under her skin as he gently caressed her.
His lips left hers and landed on her neck where he had just rubbed. He kissed and sucked her tender skin, feeling his sanity and self control leave him.
A sudden sharp pain on her neck sent a chill down her body. It was as though she had been pierced.
“Dairon,” She whimpered and opened her eyes to look into his. They were red and filled with need that he didn’t try to hide.
He took her hand and kissed it, his lips lingering on her fingers for a little too long. When he looked up to meet her gaze, it was as though the redness she had seen was an illusion. A flick of his fingers turned the lights off.
“Let’s get some sleep.” He rearranged her gown to cover her shoulders and pulled the covers over them.
Her lips parted. What just happened?
“I’ll not be able to control myself if I keep kissing you.” He confessed, knowing that she must be confused.
“It’s okay.” She whispered. They were mates and would probably get married soon. There was nothing wrong with them losing control, was there?
He didn’t seem to understand her because he hugged her and stayed still. Soon after, she felt his slow, steady breaths against her neck. He must have fallen asleep, so she decided to chase some sleep too.
She wasn’t sure how long she had slept but she felt as if her body was drowning. She hadn’t felt that way in ages but it was just as scary. It was as though a weight had been placed on her chest that prevented her from saving herself. She squirmed and forced her eyes open, gasping for air as she sat up.
She patted around the bed and when she realized that Dairon was no longer holding her, her head whipped to his side of the bed.
“Dairon?” She called into the night when she realized that he was not in bed.
The moonlight seeped in through the sheer curtains so she used it to slide out of bed. She rushed towards the door but caught her reflection in the vanity mirror which made her stop. She frowned as she looked at her neck clearly. It had looked like she had two dots on her neck from afar but when she tilted her head to take a closer look, her eyes furrowed. They were two wounds, one close to her shoulder but the other a little higher up. They were still fresh with blood dried on them.
It was almost as if she had been bitten but a huge snake. The thought made her shudder. Why would she have such a wound? She was certain that she had not been bitten by a snake. It was too scary for her to forget and besides, she would be dead already if such a huge creature poisoned her with its venom.
When her fear calmed from having thought too much, she let her hair down so it would cover her neck. Dairon would be worried if he saw it. Where was he anyway?
She checked the library and didn’t even feel his scent, but she checked the time on the clock and found that it was almost morning. Where was he? Did he perhaps get hungry and get a snack?
He was not in the kitchen either but when Rosetta found her looking around, she rushed up to her.
“Mistress, are you hungry? I’ll get you something to eat.”
“I’m alright.” She rushed out of the kitchen when she was certain that he wasn’t there either. After searching through the mansion, she was convinced that he could have gone to the realm of sloths to get a task done or, like he had said he usually did, his demon duties. She suddenly didn’t want to know what else demons did.
….
When it was time for her training, he was yet to return so she left him a note and went to the academy. The thought of his absence made her restless throughout the day.
“This is an important topic, Jasmine. What are you thinking about?” Sinos was finally irritated by her absent-mindedness. He had called her out a few times but she would end up losing her focus again each time.
She jolted out of her thoughts. “I’m sorry.” Realizing that she wouldn’t be able to focus unless she knew, she asked, “Could you happen to know where Dairon is?”
Sinos rubbed his temples impatiently and looked like he would have beaten the crap out of her if he wasn’t holding back. He sat down. “I can’t believe that all this is because you don’t know where your lover is. Is he a little child? Are you his foster mother or something?”
She slammed her fists against the table in fury. “He has been missing since last night, okay? And no, I’m not his mother. I’m his fucking mate!”
She looked down and realized that she had burned the table down in her fury and Sinos was looking at her like he was about to request King Rian for another trainee.
“I’m sorry. I think I should find Dairon first.”
“Your language classes start tomorrow. I can’t be certain that I will be your trainer.” He made it clear that he was really giving it second thoughts.
“Why?” Her voice lowered. When she realized that he didn’t have any intention to explain it, she set off to find Bardumond. He probably knew where Dairon was.
She didn’t have to search for too long. She found him on Dairon’s island, picking out the herbs he claimed only grew perfectly here.
“Brother!” She ran over and he turned.
He hugged her briefly and his brows scrunched.
“What’s wrong?” She asked.
“What happened to your neck?” He pointed at the part with the two wounds, which she had deliberately covered up by wearing a silk scarf. She touched her neck and her scarf was not out of place. How did he know?
Bardumond was certain from the scent of blood that she must be injured so he gently took off her scarf. His frown deepened.
Since he had already seen it, she decided to ask about it. “I think I was pierced or bitten. Do you think it’s a snake?”
Bardumond’s eyes filled with bloodlust. “It’s not a snake.. It’s a demon.”
