Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 145
“You tell me.” He closed in on her. “Are you going to join the earth goddesses and make trouble for the gods of wisdom?” He asked.
She sighed in relief secretly before shaking her head. “I haven’t planned any such thing with anyone.” She had thought that he had found our Dairon’s identity and was mad at her for not revealing it. Why did she think everything was about Dairon’s identity lately? She needed to calm down before her fear became his downfall.
“What would the goddesses gain from doing that anyway?” She asked to mask her expression as she made her way to sit at her table.
“How would I know what idle goddesses are thinking?” He scoffed. “They have completed their training but instead of sending them out on missions, King Rian has let them stay in the realm of immortals with nothing to do.”
“That’s tragic.” She responded to his complaint. “Why don’t you have any other trainees?”
He laughed when he heard her question. He couldn’t believe that after being curious about it for so long, she was only gaining the courage to ask now.
She stared at him. What was he laughing at?
He cleared his throat when he realized that she seriously wanted to know, then he sat down at his desk. “I only train special demideities.”
“Who are special demideities?” She asked with a light hint or ridicule in her tone. It was clear that she didn’t want to be treated like there was anything special about her.
“Those whose circumstances of birth are different from others, if it isn’t obvious already.” He frowned at her for asking the obvious.
She pursed her lips in displeasure. While she was taken back by her human parents after her birth and was reborn sooner after her death than anyone ever thought possible, she didn’t think that made her any different.
“Why only special demideities?” She asked, trying to comprehend why it had to be different.
“Because it has to be special demideities.” He brushed the question off and asked, “How are your language classes going along?”
She had been waiting for him to ask. “I learnt the billionth rule of the realm of immortals—that immortals should not try to pass off as humans.” She was exasperated. Yet another broken rule under her belt.
She studied his face for a shocked or confused reaction. She had believed that the rule she had just stated was nonexistent, and that King Rian had made it up to mess with her. When he didn’t look like he had heard anything odd, she believed that it was an actual rule.
“Why do I have to learn so many rules? I broke almost all of them anyway.” She slumped into her backrest.
“I don’t remember learning rules as part of my training but you do need to learn them. If you don’t, you might end up breaking a gazillion of them and you will have to be punished even though you did not realize that you were doing something wrong.” He consoled her.
She groaned. “If you say so. I only hope to start learning the language of gods before I get old.”
“You do know that immortals don’t grow old, right?” He laughed at her ridiculous joke and took out the books he needed. “Let’s get started. I need to deal with the idle goddesses today.”
…
King Rian arrived at the academy just when she was done with her session with Sinos. Although she had accepted the fact that he was her trainer, it was still awkward for a king to be one. Seeing him carrying books around the academy only made it harder to believe. It was not surprising that the demideities who saw him in the hallways looked like they were doubting their vision. They rubbed their eyes and widened them before bowing and disappearing into their training halls.
Jasmine bowed slightly when he stopped before her. “Good afternoon, King Rian.”
“Are you ready?”
“I am.” She took no notice of the fact that he had ignored her and followed him into the training hall she had just left to take a breather.
“Have you memorized all the rules?” He asked.
“Just the ones I broke.” She feigned a smile.
He was pissed off, as expected, and he would have strangled her if he didn’t have any use for her. “You have to tame your tone if you love your life.” He warned before summoning a seat.
His blank threat did nothing to scare her in the slightest. She sat down in silence and watched him drop more books about rules of different realms. He was definitely trying to make her drown in them.
She glanced at the books on her desk without a visible reaction.
“If you are going to be the queen of any realm, you have to know the rules of all the other realms. Do I have to explain this?”
He didn’t have to. Only, he didn’t need to pretend to train her into his successor. She knew he was not intending to make her the queen of the realm of immortals. Not that she wanted to be. It was merely his way of making her believe him. She scoffed inwardly at the thought. Did he think she was as brainless as Scarlet?
“I’ll give you one more day to understand all the rules. Meanwhile, we can start from the basics.”
…
After having to learn things she thought she had ditched in elementary school, she also had to answer questions she didn’t think were necessary.
“Do you still have any of Catalyah’s memories?” He questioned.
She did, but she shook her head. “I don’t think so.”
“You may have not been told this by anyone but I hate being lied to.” He gave a subtle warning.
“So do I.” She deliberately pushed him almost to the patience of his limit before throwing in another lie. “So, I will not lie to you either, King Rian.”
He scanned her while hiding his confusion. Weren’t human females supposed to be extremely obedient? Didn’t they always lower their heads to the males and say yes to whatever the males said?
Jasmine had spent most of her life as a human but she was nearly as annoyingly stubborn as Catalyah. Not only was she extremely witty, but she was also using the said wits to infuriate the crap out of him. He considered Scarlet’s hypothesis but dropped it. Catalyah’s soul would never come back to life. It was impossible. The reassuring thought made him calm his nerves.
Seeing the insecurity on King Rian’s face, Jasmine decided to mess with him a little.
“You know what I need. I will scratch your back but in return, you have to massage my whole body.” She crossed her legs and watched as his face paled.
“What did you say?” He snapped.
“Oh that. It’s a human realm saying. I’ll try not to use them often.” She chewed the inside of her lip to block a smile. She was not lying but she had not said it coincidentally. She had gotten it from Catalyah’s memories.
After meeting Dairon, his love for the human realm had rubbed off on her and she had picked up their language. The particular phrase she had used was Catalyah’s favorite as well as the one that riled King Rian up the most.
“Remember to do what you should.” He instructed her, referring to the assignment he had given her.
It was a relief that she could finally leave. She had to help Scarlet babysit the goddesses starting the following day, so she couldn’t help spending the rest of the day with Dairon. She couldn’t wait for the ride he had mentioned.
She joyously hopped out of the academy as soon as King Rian let her. She was in the midst of weighing whether to summon him or teleport to wherever he was when she had the urge to look up. She noticed Phoenix in the sky and smiled. Just the companion she needed. She only arealized when she stopped debating what to do that both options were disadvantageous. If she summoned him, he might arrive in his demon form and if she teleported to his location, what if he was in the underworld? That was the last realm she wanted to go without knowing how to deal with whatever shock it had to offer.
Phoenix landed and neighed into her arm like a pet seeking to be petted. She rubbed his neck and body. “I missed you too. Did Dairon send you?”
He lowered his body for her to climb on, and she took it as an affirmative answer. She couldn’t help rubbing him fondly. No wonder he looked so sad. He was scared of Dairon.
“He is my mate. He wouldn’t hurt you.” She reassured Phoenix before climbing onto his back. He flapped his wings to fly off to a bridge. She recognized it from the paintings in Dairon’s gallery as the one he built soon after finding out that he was a demigod.
She marvelled at its beauty and that of her mate, who was waiting for her on the bridge. He was wearing the robe she had made for him, which looked breathtaking on him no matter what form he was in.
