Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 146
“You look beautiful.” He bowed slightly and took her hand, kissing the back of it slightly.
“Thank you. You look handsome.” She blushed slightly and didn’t retract her hand away from him.
He looked at Phoenix behind her. “Thank you for bringing her to me.”
Phoenix neighed and hid behind Jasmine’s back for protection.
She rubbed his neck and hugged him before glaring at Dairon. “Stop scaring my pegasus.”
“I didn’t do anything to him.” Dairon shrugged and glanced at the pegasus trying to make Jasmine scold him. “What would I do to a pegasus anyway?”
Jasmine was confused. Phoenix didn’t look like he was faking it to get her attention. “Then why is he so afraid of you?”
“We have a past.” Dairon admitted but he did not look like he intended to describe the kind of past they had.
She rubbed the pegasus to comfort him and kissed his face. “Thanks for the ride. See you soon.”
He looked relieved and flew away without taking another look at Dairon.
He chuckled at how fast his enemy had fled. Knowing that Jasmine was curious, he explained it. “It’s not even something significant. He tried to knock me down in the past.”
“And?” She prompted, knowing that his reaction was probably what made Phoenix so terrified of him.
“So I turned him into a demon for a few minutes. They were the most terrifying few minutes of his life.”
It was not supposed to be fun but she burst into laughter when she imagined Phoenix’s reaction once the spell wore off.
“That was traumatizing.” She looked around the bridge. “Don’t do that to him again.”
She was playing the role of a protective master so he played along. “If he doesn’t try to attack me, I don’t have any reason to make him a demon.”
She rolled her eyes at him. He was making fun of Phoenix.
She looked into the sunset and was awed by the beautiful colors. The bridge was much higher than all the others she had ever seen and the sea was clear, so the colors looked even more radiant as they faded into the sea.
He stood before her and held his palm out with a slight bow. “Milady, would you do me the honors and go on this flight with me?”
She placed her hand into his. “Of course.” Her heart raced slightly but she couldn’t help teasing him. “You are starting to sound like a prince from the human realm. Aren’t you supposed to be a demon?”
“A demon prince.” He joked and pulled her against himself. He positioned one hand on her back and the other under her knees, then lifted her off the ground.
She was startled for a second and held his shoulders for support. This was not the first time for him to carry her but the thought of flying in his arms made butterflies flutter in her stomach.
“Are you ready?” He asked to prepare her psychologically.
“Yes.” She slid her fingers down his neck and held his back, watching his wings as they started to flap. They looked even more beautiful and strong as they moved. She watched the feathers and was tempted to touch them. She looked up at his face and saw how serious he looked. He looked like he was undertaking a serious task. She glanced down and felt the tension she had never felt when she flew with Phoenix.
“Don’t look down yet.” He kissed the side of her face to calm her down. He went even higher up than she had ever thought possible and the rush of wind cooled her face. Their hair fluttered in the air and she felt the slight strands that snuck out of her ponytail against her forehead.
“You can look down now.” He prompted when they were high enough. She held him tightly and peeked down. She was in awe when she saw most of the sea. Just how high were they? She took notice of a block of ice moving along the sea and realized that it was forming a shape. It finally settled into a heart and she realized that he was controlling it.
“I love you too.” She whispered and kissed the side of his face before looking down again.
He smiled and called out, “Cat, now.”
Before she could ask what the little bird had to do with anything, she saw it fly towards them along with other birds of different colors. they flew around them and chirped a tune that matched the sea’s. She chuckled when Cat landed on her shoulder and started pecking her neck.
“Old habits die hard, don’t they?” She let Cat land on her finger and pulled it in front of her. It was quite adorable when it was not acting like it was trying to take a bite of her.
She let it fly off and tapped the little bird that usually sent her messages from Lord Blaze. How did he even manage to gather them together? The birds flew off into the sunset, leaving behind a beautiful heart shape. She looked at him as they flew in the direction of the birds.
“This was so thoughtful of you.” She whispered against his ear.
“I’m glad you like it.” He was relieved that he did, because he had been afraid that she would think he was trying too hard.
“I love it.” She looked down into the sea and realized that the heart was floating in the same direction as them. The sun was setting as they flew towards the shore and when they got to the beach, she loosened her grip around him. The wind slowed down as they landed and when they finally did, she realized that the birds had brought flowers on their beaks.
She noticed that the floating ice heart had also arrived at the beach and phoenixes had landed along it to form a heart on their own. It was a mystery how he had managed to get so many phoenixes together and why they didn’t burn away when she exclaimed in surprise.
He landed gently on the ground and put her down smoothly. She was awed when she looked at the set up and noticed the cottage covered by the trees in the distance. He had really put his all in it.
“Do you still want to watch the sunset?” He asked.
She looked at the remaining sliver of the sun that was yet to set in the horizon then back at him. She was more curious about the cottage so she looked in its direction. “Can we check it out?”
“Of course.” He held her hand and led her through the trees and into the cottage he had recently built for this. She walked in before him and took a curious glance, immediately taking notice of the delicious spread of food on the table. He had lit candles around it which he had obviously brought from the human realm, and there were flowers in a crystal vase.
He held them up to her. “These are for you. I didn’t have much time so I simply gathered a few weeds and shoved them into the vase.”
She chuckled. He didn’t look like he was joking but there was nothing random about the flowers in the vase. He had arranged the jasmines as well as different colored roses into a colorful heart. They smelled lovely and she couldn’t help sniffing their scent a few times.
He pulled a chair for her and she sat down. He opened the tray cover and plated the food for both of them, pouring them wine as well. He had cooked human realm food that were all her favorites. Her heart melted when she had a taste of the steak. He had helped her cut it into bite sized pieces so all she had to do was savor the taste.
“I decided to do this the human realm way.” He spoke. She looked up and was about to say that it was amazing when she realized how nervous he looked. What was wrong with him?
“Jasmine,” He cleared his throat and when she studied him, she noticed that his hands were trembling. Was he nervous?
“What’s wrong?” She asked, her heart raced as well and she widened her eyes at him.
He looked out through the window. She followed his gaze out to see the hearts he was looking at. It was the large ice heart with phoenixes on it.
He took her hand over the table and placed a gentle kiss on it. “Two hearts of different elements, that fused into one no matter how impossible it seemed.” He explained the hearts.
She finally understood it. The ice and phoenixes were reprisentations of them. She covered her mouth with her hand.
“Jasmine, before I met you, there was a void in my life and I didn’t even know what I was missing. But when I met you and you were slotted into place, I finally found what the missing part of my life was, and finding you is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
She widened her eyes when he went down on one knee. “Will you spend the rest of my life with me, Jasmine?”
