Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 147
“What?” She was taken aback by the sudden proposal. She had seen it coming when he explained the hearts. To be more specific, she knew ever since confirming that they were mates, that they would get married sooner or later. Even then, it still took her by surprise.
She looked at him with her mouth parted and didn’t exactly know what to say. “For the rest of our lives, Dairon?”
It felt awkward when she suddenly thought about it.
His eyes dimmed slightly as he tried again. “Will you marry me, Jas?”
Her heart raced as her eyes watered. “Yes.”
He stood and pulled her into a tight hug.. “Thank you.”
She rested her head on his chest and didn’t want to state what she had thought about, because it would ruin the moment.
That didn’t mean it had slipped his scrunity. He looked down at her face and kissed it gently. “Why are you sad? Shouldn’t this be the happiest moment of our lives?” He asked.
“It is.” She clung to his shoulders and wished she didn’t think about it literally when he proposed. She thought about it for a moment and decided to mention it anyway. “Let’s face it, Dairon. Demons are immortals. Demideities only live for long but that doesn’t make them immortal. I cannot be with you for the rest of your life.”
Her heart broke when she said out the last part. He didn’t look shocked. It was as though he had expected her to talk about it some day and he had already prepared a response.
“About that,” He started. Before she could ask what he wanted to say, he pulled her back to her seat and let her recline comfortably before gathering his words. “Demons don’t die naturally. This still means they can die.”
“That’s just what I said.” She did not understand why he was explaining her words.
He looked at her meaningfully and she shook her head. “No. I would never do that.”
“Do what?” He looked taken aback.
She didn’t even want to say it out aloud but when she thought about the possibility that she had misunderstood his words, she spoke it out. “Were you about to suggest a way to make sure we were actually together for the rest of your life?”
“I was.” He affirmed. She was about to scold him when he held a hand for her to shut her mouth. “Hear me out.”
She nodded and he stood up, looking more nervous. “There are different ways. You can kill me when your life is about to end.”
Her stomach turned from the thought. How dare he even make such a suggestion?
“I would never do that.” She snapped.
“You don’t have to.” He said, much to her relief. He ticked off the second possibility on his fingers. “I could turn you into a demoness if you want.”
She blinked in confusion. He was the one who was against her being a demoness. What had changed?
“If I become a demoness, that would make you the target of all immortals.” She expressed her uncertainty about his idea.
He rubbed his scruff. “Then why don’t we enjoy our life together while we still have it. The future can take care of itself.”
“You are right.” She agreed.
He took her hand and kissed the back of it. “You are so forgetful, flower.”
“Mmh?” She looked up at him in askance. What had she forgotten?
He didn’t look like he intended to explain so she dropped it.
After their meal, he took her hand and led her to a room in the cottage.
“Let me show you something.” He urged.
“Okay.” She was slightly nervous as they entered the room but it turned out that she was overthinking. He opened the box on the bed and held out a swimming short to her.
“Oh… this is why you…” She realized that she was going to sound disappointed and changed her statement. “Do you want to go for a swim?”
“If you are in the mood.” He gave her the swimming tank top in his hands and took out his trunks.
“Of course I want to!” She excitedly held her swimwear to her chest. She turned around to change into them. She was still nervous letting him watch her dress up but there wasn’t any part of her that he wouldn’t see later so she ignored her tension. She peeked over her shoulder to find that he was not looking at her, so she quickly changed and turned around.
“All done! Are you ready?” She asked.
He was in his swim trunks too, so he responded by grabbing her in his arms and making a beeline for the sea.
She yelped and held onto his shoulders as the wind blew some of her hair onto her face. She pulled it off and watched as the ice heart melted and the phoenixes burned away. It was uncertain when she developed a liking for birds but when she couldn’t see the phoenixes anymore, it was as though a part of her heart had burned with them.
He let her down when he was far enough for the water to reach his waist. She gave a naughty smile and splashed water onto him.
He returned the favor by pouring water all over her body, which morphed into another battle of water and sand.
….
They had played all evening and swam to their hearts’ content. They were out of breath by the time they went back to the cottage.
“Are you tired?” She asked through her giggles.
“I could play some more.” He said even though he was gasping for breath.
“Liar liar, pants on fire!” She called him out for lying but the result she got was not what she had asked for.
“Wait. That’s not…” She panicked when she saw his trunks burn. She retracted the fire but his trunks had already burnt and they fell off his body. “That’s not what I meant!” Her face reddened when she saw his bare lower body.
“What do you have against my swim trunks?” He burst into laughter when he looked down to see his burnt trunks.
“Uh…” She was shocked by what he thought mattered. Shouldn’t he be rushing to cover himself up?
“Wear something! Right now!” She ordered and turned around, shutting her eyes at the same time.
“I’m not the one who burnt my swim trunks.” The shameless demigod laughed behind her and had the audacity to tease her about it. “Why are you turning away? You saw everything there is to see.” He laughed.
She widened her eyes and didn’t have the courage to turn. It was exactly because she had seen something she shouldn’t that she couldn’t gather the courage to turn.
He shuffled around for a while and she guessed that he was dressing up.
“You can turn now.” He stated after a while.
She sighed in relief but when she turned, her vision was filled with bare skin. Not only had he not done anything to cover himself up, but he was also hard and making fun of her.
“You are so shameless!” She slapped his shoulder and burst out of the bedroom amid his laughter.

The following day, King Rian was at it again.
“There shouldn’t be any such thing as a useless demigoddess in the realm of immortals. If you are not going to be of any use, then you might as well die and combust for all I care.” He snapped at her when she disagreed with his insane idea. He had wanted her to join the gods of war for training and she rejected the idea because she already had Sinos as her trainer.
She looked at him as he spoke and shook her head. “Do you deem me useless, King Rian?” She asked.
“That’s what you are trying to make yourself.”
She didn’t let him push the blame to her before defending herself. “I didn’t ask to be a demigoddess but I became one anyway. Now when I have accepted this fact and found my mate in the realm of immortals, you want me to do more impossible things? First, I had to become your apprentice and now, I have to ditch my trainer?”
“I have every right to assign trainers and trainees.” He frowned at her. “Whether or not Sinos is being of any help to you is for me to gauge and since I think you are better off without him, you will no longer be his trainee.” He stated his decisions like his word was law.
Well, his word was law but that didn’t mean she was going to allow herself to be led by the nose.
“You don’t get to decide what I do or do not do with my life! You have no such right.” She snapped and shot up from her seat.
Before she could make a step to leave, King Rian stood and swung his fist.
His slap did not land because someone materialized into the training room and blocked it.
She was relieved for a second until she realized that it was not Dairon. It was a demon she recognized from Catalyah’s memory. Ulke.
