Reborn As The Daemon’s Wife - Chapter 157
“He is not powerless.” He feigned ignorance.
“You know what I’m talking about.” She called him out on it.
“Honestly? I have no idea.” He brushed it off. She knew that he probably didn’t want to talk about it so she let it drop.
“I’m going to the academy.” She summoned Phoenix for a ride, feeling too drained to use her powers to teleport.
“I’ll pick you up later.” He promised..
Phoenix arrived and she hopped on. Just as she flew away, he caught sight of the annoying demon behind a tree. He checked that Jasmine had flown away safely and confronted Ulke.
“What do you think the realm of immortals is? Your private bathroom?”
“Am I limiting your space?” Ulke shrugged and tried to disappear into the sea.
Dairon was certain that he had not just come to run away. He was planning something, so he followed him to the sea and caught him trying to pet a whale.
“Stay away from my pet.” Dairon struck him and pulled his whale away.
“Just because you are a water demigod doesn’t make you own all the water animals.” Ulke snickered, only for Dairon to grab his neck.
“I warned you against seeking Jasmine’s family. Tell me, how do you want to die?” He threatened, revealing his claws which pierced into Ulke’s neck.
Seeing that Dairon actually wanted to kill him, Ulke pushed him away. “What do I have to gain from a bunch of humans?”
Dairon hesitated. He didn’t go to the human realm? Then what about the demon who pretended to be his brother to intimidate the Cavendish family?
“Did you send anyone to Jasmine’s family?” He demanded.
“I don’t have time for such crap, Dairon.” Ulke denied the accusation. He didn’t have anything to gain from lying.
Dairon let go of him and turned to leave, even though it was still disturbing. What was Ulke looking for? Was he trying to find King Rian for a talk?
But if that was the case, he could have simply materialized into King Rian’s chamber or throne room. He didn’t need to snoop around outside and risk getting caught. He definitely wanted something to do with Jasmine.
“I know what your end will be like.” Ulke snickered. When he was ignored by Dairon who left the sea, he pointed at him. “That demigoddess you keep treating like a treasure will be the end of you. By the way, I still believe she is not a demigoddess.”
“I will kill you if you don’t shut up!” Dairon roared over his shoulder.
“And risk dying along with me. I was right.”
Dairon frowned. Since Ulke knew that his death would cause the death of all other demons, why was he poking trouble so desperately? It was almost as if he was tired of living and was trying to make Dairon kill him.
….
It took a while investigating the matter before he got to the bottom of it. When he teleported to the underworld and checked the tunnel that led to the human realm, he found out that no demon had gone to the human realm recently.
This meant his fake brother was not even a demon. He was a different creature in disguise.
Maybe it was an illusion?
He returned to the realm of immortals to check whether there was any deity or demi deity who met Jasmine’s family and the result was baffling.
To think King Rian would stoop so low as to pretend to be one of the creatures he hated the most.
It could only be him because all deities had been denied access to the human realm. They couldn’t possibly go and return without a trace.
Annoyed at the god’s insanity, Dairon punched a wall, replacing it with King Rian in his mind. “Rian, your end is near.”
….
Soon after her arrival at the academy, all Jasmine could hear was whispers around her. After her marriage to Dairon, the other demi deities had congratulated her and gone over to see what her ring looked like. But now for some reason, they all seemed to want to stay away from her.
“She isn’t nearly as kind as she seems. Looks can be deceiving.” A demigoddess whispered to another on the hallway, not caring that she could hear her.
“I heard she was banished in her first life because she tried to kill Goddess Scarlet.”
“It could be true.” The other goddess seconded. “She only managed to steal Marina’s mate and make him her husband by threatening Marina’s life. Why would Lord Dairon want a demigoddess like her?”
“Do you know that she proclaimed herself to be greater than Catalyah?” Another added.
“That doesn’t seem true though. I have spoken to her several times and she is indeed friendly.” A demigoddess at the side disagreed.
“She will do anything to appear to be good. Do you have any idea that she killed Goddess Pearl?”
“Thanks for the compliments.” She turned around, taking the demigoddesses by surprise.
Before they could do anything to react to her presence, she disappeared into the training room.
It was all part of King Rian’s strategy, she was certain. He was trying to make her everyone’s enemy.
If everyone requested him to banish her for all the things they thought she had done, he was the only one who could save her. He would probably use that point to force her into doing what she had already refused to do.
“Why are you so distressed?” Sinos asked when he arrived. Jasmine was pacing and had not even noticed his presence.
“Hey, you are here.” She forced a smile onto her face.
“What’s going on, flower?” He asked, knowing that she was far from alright.
She frowned. “Nothing.” Nothing was alright but she preferred not to bother him with her problems.
“I sent my assignment yesterday. Did you check through it?”
“I did. I’m baffled by your sudden interest in the history of the realm of immortals.” He revealed.
“I just need to know everything. Curiosity will kill me if I don’t.” She winked and opened her bag to take out a shirt. “I made this earlier and thought it would look good on you.”
Sinos reached out to grab the shirt excitedly but retracted his hands in the next second as if he had touched fire.
“What’s wrong?” She was confused.
“Is it really okay? I’m afraid your mate will kick up a fuss.” He looked nervous.
She found it funny. Did Dairon threaten him because he had received innumerable clothes from her? No wonder he didn’t bug her for clothes anymore.
How childish, she laughed but she found her mate adorable.
“I was hoping I could ask you for a favor.” She started.
He knew it would lead to this. He looked at her and was nearly horrified. What was it she needed that she couldn’t state without bribing him with a gorgeous shirt?
“How well do you know King Rian?”
“I’m not talking about him with you.” He immediately rejected the favor.
“I’ll ask that after a few days.” She smiled and took out her books. For some reason, she was certain that he would give in.
____
Dairon checked the time on the clock. Jasmine would be done soon. He had promised to pick her up so he prepared snacks and drinks, and waited for the time when she would be done so he would teleport to the academy.
Alaya’s presence interrupted him and he turned to look at her.
This time, she had boldly snuck to his house in his presence and didn’t seem to be scared of getting kicked out.
“What is it?” He asked. He wanted to be as far from her as possible but when he saw the tears glistening in her eyes, he couldn’t bear to kick her out.
Her response was to wrap her arms around him. “Of course. What was I thinking?”
She sobbed against his shoulder and sighed multiple times in relief.
He pulled her off him and looked into his eyes, trying to gauge what she was thinking about.
“It’s okay, son. I just wanted to check on you.” She dabbed at her eyes and turned to leave.
“Just that?” His brows furrowed.
His question intimidated her. Like all the other times, he felt like her son was different from what she thought but she had never been bothered about it. She was certain that the different energy that emanated from him was inherited from his father. It must be part of his human side so she didn’t ask about it either.
He looked at her probingly when he saw that she didn’t seem to want to speak.
“I had a dream.” She confessed.
“A dream?”
“I know it sounds stupid.” She quickly made him stop speaking. “But I dreamt that they had tied you up and were torturing you. Whether it’s a dream or reality, how can I not want to pay my son a visit and check that he is really alright?”
“Who?” He probed.
She looked uncertain, as if afraid he would not believe her. “Demons.”
