Reborn as the Spirit King - Chapter 13.6
Chapter 13 – Baron Leon (6) Standing in the office of a castle with no owner, Jade slowly looked around his surroundings. The room was simple as it was an office of a poor family, and only contained the bare necessities.
“Do they have a secret storage of some sort?”
-I checked as soon as we came in, but there doesn’t seem to be anything like that. It’s just a simple room.
“I guess they didn’t even have the money to make something like that.”
-I released the little ones to check the surrounding areas and it seems like the people in this land are barely surviving. Should I say they have just enough to be self-sufficient? But it doesn’t seem like they were taxing the people that much.
“I’m sure they didn’t, because even if they wanted to, I’m sure the people didn’t have any money to tax.”
Jade laughed at Celestine’s words as he knew the situation quite well in this land.
Of course, it was all information from before four years ago, but this land wouldn’t have changed much even after four years.
Knock knock knock.
“Can I go in mister Jade?”
“Yes, please come in Steven.”
Steven entered the office with a more polite voice.
However, he was carrying a bunch of papers in his arms.
“The atmosphere is quite distracting huh?”
“There’s nothing we can do about that, since both the lord and the small lord of this land has suddenly died.”
“But it’s only like that within this area, the people don’t seem to care too much. They’re not surprised and believe it was bound to happen.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Well, nothing changes for them even if they were to get a new lord. Only, the people who served the previous lord will have to be completely changed out.”
Tap.
Steven smiled as he placed the mountain of papers onto the table.
And noticing this, Jade stared at him with anxious eyes.
For some reason, he thought Steven would tell him to look over the paperwork that he brought.
“You don’t have to worry. There isn’t a single thing in here that you have to confirm yourself. They’re all things that I can make decisions for. I just brought them here so I can take them later.”
“It was just in case, haha.”
“I think I’ll probably be getting a report soon.”
“I hope not.”
“Hahaha.”
Steven laughed at Jade’s honest words.
“I feel like you’re suffering because of me.”
“The Crown Prince sent me here because I would be useful to you, so you don’t have to worry about that. It’s not that hard to do to be honest. I’m personally happy to be of assistance to you like this, since you’re someone who saved my life, haha!”
“I’m glad to hear that you feel that way.”
“I feel like your feelings will be quite complicated right now.”
“Rather than complicated, I just feel whatever. Yesterday was the first day I got to properly meet him, so I don’t have any other feelings.”
Jade smiled.
It wasn’t a forced smile, but an honest smile where he really didn’t feel any particular feelings about the situation.
To be honest, it wasn’t he himself who actually went through the things in the past, and although he had memories of what had happened, he didn’t really feel anything for it.
“That’s true. He’s no different than a stranger to you then.”
“Exactly, but I do feel a bit refreshed. It feels like resentment I had in my heart has now been lifted.”
“That’s good to hear. Resentment is never a good thing to contain even for your mental health.”
“That’s right. Ah, I also have something to request of you Steven.”
Slip.
Jade opened his subspace and pulled out the subspace that Belis had with him.
“I heard from Arelia that your spirit gathered some items for you out of its own will.”
“Yeah, you think we can get this opened?”
“Of course. It’s not easy to do, but it’s not impossible.”
“I leave it to you then.”
Steven confidently laughed.
Laney had sent him here with this in mind, so Steven immediately unlocked the spell that was case on the subspace.
He changed the identification code, so that others could use it too.
“Everything is done. Please look inside.”
“Thank you.”
“But mister Jade.”
“Please speak.”
“You’re going to come back with me to the capital, right?”
There were many jobs Steven oversaw, but the most important one was to bring Jade back to the capital.
Of course, although Jade had promised them he would be back, there was a chance that he would change his mind.
Furthermore, since his reason to stay within the kingdom disappeared as soon as he cleared his resentment with Baron Leon, Steven was given a separate special mission.
It was to bring him back to the capital no matter the cost.
“Of course. I promised the royal princess after all.”
“Haha. That isn’t the only reason, but I wish to return together with you.”
“You don’t have to worry about that. I also have something that I haven’t received yet.”
“You’re talking about a title, right? Haha!”
“That’s right.”
“To what extent do you have in mind? You can whisper it into my ears.”
Steven changed the topic with a sly smile.
Since he heard the answer he wanted to hear, he now changed the topic of their conversation.
Although Jade already realized this, he just pretended to move forward with the topic.
“I’ll accept whatever I’m given. I don’t have a specific title that I want, but I’m more interested in what you think Steven.”
“M, me?”
“Yeah, won’t you also be receiving a title like me?”
“Uh……”
Steven looked perplexed as he didn’t think the question would be turned back to him.
However, he soon laughed wildly.
He quickly fell into his own imagination.
-He looks so stupid!
-Well who cares if he’s happy.
Celestine shook her head as she stared at the happy Steven.
No matter how one saw it, Steven didn’t look normal.
