Reborn Into Pokemon With An Odd System - Volume 1 Chapter 16

While they were entering the cafeteria he felt a pat on his right shoulder, it was Jack and he was tilting his head behind them. He turned around and found Serena behind, Max was about to say his greeting but the young girl avoided his gaze. He sighed and walked in, grabbed their food, and found a nearby seat.

Serena decided to sit next to him, Max looked around and found her ‘friends’ looking at her across the room with guilty expressions. He smiled bitterly and kept his attention at his table while thinking “How the hell am I supposed to get her to accept that I’m thinking of having multiple girls?”

His gaze landed on his food and he noticed that he didn’t get any drink, “Hey I’ll be right back, I didn’t get a drink hehe.”

The young girl quickly tried standing up “I’ll get it for you.”

He shook his head and sat her back down “No it’s fine besides there so many different types so I’ll go and choose a new flavor that I haven’t tried yet.”

She hesitated but nodded, Max walked towards the place where the drinks were and waited for a tall blonde girl to choose her drink. After waiting for about a full two minutes she still hadn’t decided.

He walked next to her so that he could take a look at what the dilemma was. He saw her holding two different drinks on her hands and looking from one to the other unable to make up her mind on which to choose.

Max sighed and tapped her arm with his index finger “Ummm excuse me, do you think that I could get my drink real quick?”

She turned around and nodded when Max saw her face he felt like something attracted him to her. She was wearing a blue top and black trousers that made her look more mature than she was, Max could see that she was about 10 years old. After getting his drink he turned back to her and smiled “Hey I’m Max nice to meet you.”

She nodded with her gaze still focused on the two drinks on her hands “My name is Cynthia”.

He looked at her and thought that it was funny how indecisive she was about her drinks “You know that if you take both of them no one is going to say anything right?”

Cynthia shook her head “Nah that would be a waste of juice, I might enjoy it but I don’t want to force myself to drink more than I need just to taste it.”

He shrugged “Well good luck then, I would take the mango one if it was me though. I’ll cya around.”

Max walked back to his seat and found the twins giving him a sly look, Serena, on the other hand, had a frown. He sighed and thought “Well looks like I should have that conversation soon, she is young so her mind should be more open then it’ll ever be.”

For once he was relieved by Ash’s dense head, as he felt 3 different stares. After they finished eating the group headed for class, after he had gotten injured the professors decided to cancel the forest tours and instead they will make it more like school.

When they were about halfway to where the lessons took place he stopped and looked at the four kids, “Hey can you three go ahead, I have something that I want to talk to Serena about.”

The twins nodded and began to drag Ash away as they yelled out “Good luck man.”

Once they were gone he turned back to Serena and scratched his head nervously “Look Serena there is something that I haven’t told you.”

She tilted her head “What is it?”

“Before I tell you, you have to promise me that you will listen to the end and not try to run away okay”

The young girl hesitated but nodded in the end “What I’m about to tell you might make you hate me so I need you to remember that no matter what I will always love you.”

Serena began to blush but the worried expression on her face didn’t disappear, “You see one of my goals in life is to become the best Pokémon trainer anyone has ever seen. The thing is that there is another that might sound weird, you see my other dream is to……umm… have multiple wives . I can’t completely explain to you the reason why, just know that once in my life I felt extremely alone and I felt that no one truly wanted me for being me. That’s when I decided that if I had a large family then I wouldn’t have to worry about not ever being wanted again.”

She began to tear up and tried to run away but Max caught her by the wrist and pulled her towards him “Look no matter how many wives I have in the future I will love each one the same. Since I know that you are going to hate me from now on, I want to tell you even if it’s for the last time that I love you.”

He let go of her and the young girl ran to her room and flung the door closed. He sighed and let his body drop on the ground, no matter how much he tried he couldn’t stop remembering the image of Serena crying. He took a deep breath and got up “Might as well take this time to get some training in.”

Max began to run around the campgrounds but stopped behind professor Vlads Lab. He had discovered a clearing that looked like a pokémon arena but he wasn’t too sure, now however someone was training their pokémon there.

He quickly recognized the figure of Cynthia, he began to get closer but the closer he got the less he could recognize her. The Cynthia he was seeing now looked as if she was her evil twin, there was no evidence of that indecisive girl he had seen before.

She was now yelling at a small round pokémon that seemed to be wrapped in a leaf and a small shark-like pokémon that had a seriously largemouth, “Budew how can you call that an attack, Gible show it what a real attack is, use dragon rage.”

The small shark pokémon opened its mouth and out came a blinding blue light in the shape of a dragon that directly hit the Budew and knocked it out. She sighed and looked at the small pokémon “Budew this can’t be the best you can do, we still have a long way to go.”

She called the pokemon back into their pokéballs and sat down while looking at the sky. Max saw that she was in deep thought and he turned around to walk away. “Where do you think, you’re going? What happened to you anyway, this morning you were all smiley and everything and now you look worse than a Chimchar that got his banana taken away hehe.”

He turned around to see her still looking at the sky, he sighed and sat down next to her “I just broke a young girl’s heart. I know this is going to sound weird, but I let her know about my plans of having multiple wives when I grow up.”

She turned to look at him and began to burst in laughter “Yeah that’s bound to happen haha, well at least you told her early on. Hells it’s a good thing you told her at all and didn’t cheat because now that would be bad.”

Max nodded “So you’re old enough to be a Pokémon trainer?”

She laid down on the ground and nodded “Yeah, I turned 10 a few months ago.”

He laid down as well and looked at her “Hey would you mind if in the future you and I could battl…..”

“Yeah, no problem just give me a heads up if you ever see me.”

Max shook his head and smiled “You didn’t let me finish, I was going to ask if you and I could battle and if in the future I can beat you, would you become my girlfriend?”

She turned her head and looked at Max with a surprised expression glued on her face, she hesitated before smiling and tossed him a pokéball “Why wait when we can do it now?”

Max looked at the pokéball and brought out the pokémon inside, after the white flash what appeared was a blue dinosaur-like Pokémon. It had hair surrounding its top half with stones that seemed to look like rubies protruding from the area below its neck.

No matter how much he looked he couldn’t see any eyes, when he got closer to it the pokémon bit into his leg. He was able to hold in his scream and as soon as it let go he began to heal it, the Pokémon hadn’t bit him that hard so it didn’t take long till he was fully healed.

He could hear Cynthia laughing on the side “I take it that this is the first time that you see a Deino?”

Max nodded and began petting the small pokémon that was about 2 feet tall. The Deino began rubbing itself on his leg. She smiled at him “So what do you say huh, let’s have that battle that you wanted, if you win then I’ll become one of your girlfriends and if you lose you forget about me ever being with you,”

He began laughing “Well then I have to say that I’m kinda depressed, am I really that bad of a suitor for you to try and trick me? You want me to fight with a pokémon that I’ve never met, all I’m going to accomplish is getting him hurt for no reason. Also, I think that you misunderstand my question, I never gave a limit for the amounts of times that I could challenge you. I know this might sound unfair but think about it soon you’re going to have a 5-year head start so it shouldn’t be too hard to beat me as many times as needed right? This might sound really cringy but I feel like we were destined to meet as soon as I saw your beautiful grey eyes my heart skipped a beat.”

She looked at him and burst in laughter “Well then looks like you aren’t simply good looking but you’re also smart. Gotta say if you like me that much then you have good taste haha, I’m okay with letting you have an unlimited amount of tries since I doubt that you can beat me anytime soon. That last thing that you said, I like it, it reminded me of something that I read somewhere.”

Max looked at her confused “What was it?”

Cynthia looked at the sky and smiled “When every life meets another life something will be born.”

He looked at her and smiled “That does sound nice. So then for this try give me the rest of the day to get used to Deino and then we can have the battle tomorrow before we all leave. Does that sound good to you?”

She nodded and then he called Deino back “Well then Cya tomorrow then.”

They both gave each other a thumbs up and walked away.

((Cynthia is supposed to be super old when you look up her age – so just ignore it. The internet doesn’t always tell the truth, let’s just blame it on Ash’s OP immortality. Hope you enjoy, let me know what ya’ll think))
