Reborn Into Pokemon With An Odd System - Volume 1 Chapter 27
After putting everything away they walked another 5 hours and were finally able to see Pewter City from a distance. Ash sat down with a relieved face “PHEW, I thought we were going to be in that forest for the rest of our lives.”
Max looked at him and laughed “We were only there for 2 days, well technically 3 if you count today.”
Ash nodded and was about to say something but suddenly he was interrupted by a male voice “Pewter City is gray, the color of stone. This town has always been famous for stone.”
They turned around and found a man with a red beanie.
“Who’s this old man?” asked the spikey-haired kid.
Max smiled and thought “Looks like things are still going according to the story.”
The old man didn’t even move and simply answered: “The name’s Flint, and you, my friends are sitting on my merchandise.”
Max jumped down while Misty and Ash looked under them to see what it was that the man was selling. When they found only Rocks they climbed down the stairs and Ash looked at Flint with a confused expression “You sell Rocks?”
Flint shook his head “These aren’t simply Rocks they are souvenirs from Pewter City. Wanna buy some?”
Max shook his head “No thanks, these are some pretty interesting rocks though. The thing is that we are Pokémon trainers and we kinda need to save up our funds to make sure that we have everything we need.”
Flint nodded and looked at Pikachu who yawned and laid down on one of the rocks “Your pokémon sure seem to be wiped out, I’ll take you to the pokémon center.”
They nodded and began following him but he stopped and turned around, Max smiled and couldn’t help but get out of the script. He shook his head and spoke before Flint got a chance “Don’t try to charge us for stepping on your merchandise. Don’t you know that people like to buy things in their original condition, they are weird that way, or at least the collectors are. Anyway, I can tell that you washed all these, what we did was simply fix your problem so you might even try thanking us.”
Flint burst in laughter “It looks like someone here knows about business, that was a pretty stupid comment but still it was pretty funny. I’ll let you off for now, anyway let’s go.”
Max nodded and added “Great, My friend Ash will get you something to eat”
The spiky-haired kid quickly ran up to him surprised “What, why do I have to?”
He looked at Ash and thought “Dude this guy is going to help you power up Pikachu, it’s the least you could do.” He smiled and pointed at Flint “You’re the one that called him old man, let this be your lesson so that you don’t go around calling people old.”
Ash was about to open up his mouth but quickly closed it. Max could tell what the kid was about to say, ((“But he is Old!!!”)).
They arrived at the Pokémon Center which after a quick look seemed to be about 15 floors high. Ash took out his pokéballs and put them and Pikachu on a tray and handed them to Nurse Joy.
Max was taken by surprise by how identical they were, sure he had seen it many times in the anime but it felt really weird when you looked at them in person. Ash looked at her with a confused expression “What are you doing here Nurse Joy, this is Pewter City, not Viridian City. ”
She smiled at him and nodded “The one you met Joy that you met in Viridian City is my little sister. I’m the older one. She did mention you three and how you helped her.”
Ash nodded “Thank you”, then he looked at Max and pointed at his pocket “Shouldn’t you get Zweilous and Charmander checked out. You did fight Team Rocket with Zweilous after all.”
Max shook his head “There is no need, they are all fine.”
Before he could say anything else “Nurse Joy was right in front of him staring at him with a slightly angry expression “You’re Max I take it? Even if I did hear good things about you I’m still disappointed at the lack of care that you have towards your pokémon.”
Max was surprised by her sudden personality change, the reason that he didn’t need them taken care of was because he had already healed all of them. All of his pokémon were all in perfect condition, even Zweilous who according to dexter was supposed to have scratches and bruises all over due to its constant arguing and fighting between the two heads, was fine and didn’t have a single mark on his body since his abilities let him completely heal everything even scars.
The thing was that the spotless body of Zweilous was because it was calmer than most after the devil of Lance scared it to death when they were arguing and didn’t let him hear the TV. Ever since then the heads started acting like best brothers and didn’t try to injure one another.
He sighed and brought out Charmander and Zweilous out so that Nurse Joy could see them and finally lower her anger down a few degrees. When they were out Nurse Joy looked at them from all angles and then her face turned red. She walked back in front of Max and gave a small bow “I’m so sorry, these pokémon are in perfect health, I’ve actually never seen pokémon so healthy before. Though I haven’t ever seen a Pokémon like the blue one since it has thick skin I can tell that it must constantly be hitting itself with something, yet I can’t see any scars or bruises. And your Charmander, it’s flame on its tail is one of the strongest I’ve seen in a while.”
Max looked at her surprised, he knew that not many had ever seen a Zweilous before since they weren’t from that region. Yet she was able to hit his characteristics and personality perfectly, I mean since the pokémon had no completely developed eyes he guessed it was kind of obvious but still she said she got it from the thickness of skin and he didn’t believe that she would be one that lies.
He shook his head and got her out of the bow “It’s fine I understand that you are committed to pokémon and I respect that.”
She smiled at him and pointed behind him”Have you seen that poster? Based on how much you care about your pokémon and their strength I think it’s a good fit for you.”
As he turned around she went back to her desk and took the tray of pokéballs and Pikachu that Ash had prepared.
They walked closer to the poster and Ash put on an excited expression “The Pokémon League Regional Championsh.i.p.s, Alright!”
Misty looked at the kid and shook her head “To compete in the regional championsh.i.p.s, you need to beat GYM trainers from different towns and get their badges as proof. To be honest I don’t think you can accomplish that.”
Ash looked at her offended “Of course I can”
Suddenly they heard Flint’s voice behind them “You think that you can beat Brock the Pewter City GYM leader, haha” then he turned around and began to leave.
Max ran to him and handed him 25 dollars “Here, my friend there is probably angry at you at the moment. I told you we were going to get you something to eat and I’m a person of my word, like my father taught me to be. Don’t be too hard on Ash it’s just that he wants to become stronger so that he can someday get his name out and find his father.”
As soon as he said that Flint’s facial expression changed for a second, he looked at Ash and sighed. He took the money and gave Max a small nod “You’re a good kid, I’ll help your friend out if he ever needs it as payback for the money.”
Max nodded and thought “Right, you were going to do it anyways but it never hurts to give a bit more of an incentive to make sure.”
He went back to Misty and Ash and found them arguing like always. When the spikey-haired kid saw him coming back he pointed at Misty and said: “She doesn’t think that we are going to be able to defeat the gym leaders.”
Misty shook her head and looked at Max “I didn’t say that, all I said was that you two were going to have a hard time.”
Max smiled and thought of a way to mess with her, he nodded and took another look at the poster “She’s right though, if they weren’t strong then we wouldn’t be required to beat them in order to qualify. The GYM that worries me more is the Cerulean City GYM, I heard that it’s run by 4 sisters and that they specialize in water type pokémon. I’ve seen 3 of them in the papers but I haven’t seen the youngest one. I hear that she is also a Pokémon trainer and super pretty. For some reason, though I get the feeling that we are going to meet soon though, It’s weird.”
He turned to Misty and pretended to be nervous “Uhh I don’t mean that I’m the type of person that will just go for a girl because of her looks though. Your extremely pretty and I would be with you if you let me.”
Misty began to turn red and then turned away from Max. Ash gave both of them a confused look and rubbed his stomach “Max let’s go get something to eat and then come back and get my pokémon so that we can challenge Brock”
Max shook his head “Sorry but I have something to do in the city, you two can go eat, I’ll be waiting at the GYM.”
They nodded and split up, he walked towards the forest and when no one was looking he teleported to the river where he had met Misty and caught Magikarp. He took a deep breath and brought out Gyarados, the gold and blue giant Roared, and began splashing in the water. Max smiled and patted the pokémon’s underbelly.
“Hey buddy, you think that you could show me what attacks you can do?”
The pokémon roared once again and when it stopped its fangs seemed to be coated in Ice, it stuck it’s head into the river and pulled out a frozen Magikarp that was in between its teeth and gobbled it up.
Max was surprised but nodded “Nice, that was Ice Fang which should be very effective against Onix, do you have any other attacks?”
Gyarados raised its head and opened its mouth, suddenly a big tornado of water formed around its body. It moved its head and sent the water tornado at the river, after a few minutes it disappeared and became one with the river.
Max smiled “That looks like Whirlpool”
The giant pokémon opened its mouth and shot a pillar of water at the river. “That’s a Hydro Pump.”
Gyarados seemed to be getting excited and its crown began to manifest more and more lighting suddenly the lighting hit the Hydro Pump directing it into the river. One by one knocked out Magikarps began floating up the river.
When he finally came back to his senses he scratched his head and laughed nervously “Well at least we know where to get some water transportation when we need some.” At first, he thought of catching the ones he could now to make them evolve but then he decided against it. He would do it when Lance and Serenity got the money so that they could catch all the ones they needed at once.
While he was deep in thought Gyarados was enjoying itself to a sushi buffet. Max told him to stop and put his hand on the water “Let’s see if this works.” He began to use heal on the water and started seeing the Magikarps awaken again but the effect was severely diminished and took longer than it did when he had direct contact with the target.
He looked at Gyarados and pointed at land “Do you think that you can use a lightning attack over there?” The pokémon nodded and a large ray of lightning traveled to the ground, Max smiled and nodded “That was definitely Thunder Shock”.
Max ran and gave the pokémon a big hug “You have no idea how many advantages you have over other pokémon haha. Next time use the lighting whenever you attack with water-related attacks do the same thing you did with Hydro Pump and fuse them to make them more effective.”
Gyarados roared and shot a ray of lighting up to the sky. Max smiled “So is that it or do you have any more surprises?”
The storm dragon looked at the land where his electric attack had just hit and opened its mouth. This time a horizontal tornado appeared and hit the ground for about 7 seconds before it closed its mouth. Max was about to compliment the pokémon but then it opened its mouth yet again and a red sphere started growing and suddenly moved forward and formed a red ray that as soon as it hit the ground made an explosion and smoke cloud in the sky.
Max had already seen the attack on TV, it was a hyper beam. He looked back at the pokémon and thought “Now that I get a first-hand look at what this bad boy can do, I understand why Dexter’s description of Gyarados is so harsh haha.”
He smiled at the storm dragon and gave it a thumbs up “Nice one haha, do you have anything else?”
It shook its head and Max nodded “Okay then I’m going to call you back and leave before anyone comes to investigate what’s going on haha. Soon you’re going to have a battle so rest well okay.”
The pokémon nodded and roared one last time before he was called back into his pokéball. Max took a deep breath and tried to come down from his OP partner, he couldn’t wait to show it off. He teleported back to the edge of the forest and walked to the GYM where he waited for Ash.
