Reborn Into Pokemon With An Odd System - Volume 1 Chapter 28
After about 12 minutes of waiting, Ash showed up with Pikachu on his shoulder. Max smiled at him and pretended to look around, he knew that Ash would be alone since in the anime he and Misty got into an argument.
He looked at the spiky-haired kid and asked: “Where’s Misty?”
Ash looked at him and began scratching his head “I don’t know, we went to eat in a restaurant and she began talking about how you and I should ask her nicely for her to let us borrow her water pokémon. I told her that she didn’t have to worry about us, that there was no way we would lose since I have Pikachu and you have Zweilous. Then she got curious about it and asked if I knew how you got it. In the end, I told her everything that happened in the camp and suddenly she got angry and just left me with the bill. Girls are so confusing and complicated aren’t I right?”
Max looked at Ash as if he was the king of idiots which he totally was. As soon as he heard that Misty had gotten curious about Zweilous he had gotten a bad feeling. He looked at the kid and thought “Ash this is the second time you do this to me, you are so lucky that I know you are not trying to do this shit on purpose or I would rip you into a million pieces right now.”
He looked at Ash and took a deep breath “Let’s go in I’ll find her and fix things up”
The kid looked at him with a confused expression but nodded “Yeah let’s beat this Brock guy and show Misty that she had nothing to be worried about.”
Max quickly turned around to stop himself from jumping on the kid and giving him a good beating. As he opened the door he mumbled to himself “You should have stayed on topic with that conversation and not talked about the camp.”
They opened the door and walked into a dark room, Ash looked around and yelled “Hello is anyone here?”
Suddenly a light shined from the roof and onto a kid, he was and had a hairstyle that made it look like he had been zapped by electricity, he seemed to be about 15 years old. When Max saw him sitting in a meditation position he stopped and wondered “Dude do you spend the whole day in the dark sitting in that position, waiting for a trainer to challenge you?”
“Who goes there?”
Max looked at him with a raised brow and mumbled: “Great first I met a weird Samurai in the forest and now, I am here and meet a dude trying to act like a soldier.”
Ash looked at the kid “You must be Brock, well I’m Ash from Pallet Town and this is my friend Max he’s also a Pokémon trainer from Pallet Town. We came here today because we want to challenge you.”
Brock nodded and looked at the two of them “Is this your first pokémon GYM match? If that’s the case then let me tell you that they are different from other matches. This one is for Pokémon League Authorization. There are special rules, for example, we will both use two pokémon each understood?”
Ash gave a small nod and Brock kept talking “How long have you been with your pokémon?”
The spiky-haired kid began to try to remember and Max jumped in “A little less than a week.”
Brock nodded and sighed “That explains it, your pokémon is still in it’s cutest stage. You won’t be able to win.”
Ash got angry and began yelling “I’ll worry about my Pokémon, and you worry about yours.”
With a sigh, Brock shook his head “Fine then, since I’m the GYM leader I have to take on all challengers. Now let’s stop wasting time and let’s begin.”
He snapped his fingers and 2 wide garage doors that were on either side began opening and pulling out 2 halves of a rock battle arena. Ash began running and Max followed, all he would have to do was slightly jump to get on to the platform and he was going to be fine, so he just walked to Ash’s side and waited for the battle to start.
Ash smiled and looked at the yellow furball “Okay, Pikachu, I choose you, buddy.” The cute pokémon walked into the rock arena on two feet.
Brock threw the pokéball and yelled, “Onix go!”
The huge rock snake appeared and roared, as soon as Pickachu saw the pokémon it ran back to Ash and climbed his body trying to reach out to a pokéball so that he didn’t have to.
When Max saw this in the anime he found the pokémon’s reaction hilarious but now he just felt bad for the little guy. He looked as the kid pushed it into the arena and thought “You big idiot, how the hell do you want such a small Pokémon to fight that giant when all its attacks are ineffective.”
Onix wiped the floor with Pikachu, at first it performed a Tackle and then used Bind trapping Pikachu with its tail. It began to squeeze and the small pokémon flinched in pain. Ash told it to use Thundershock but like expected nothing happened.
Brock crossed his arms and sighed “You haven’t raised it correctly, how can you even expect to beat Onix with such a weak attack.
Ash began to reach for his pokéball and tried to call Pikachu back into it but the giant body of Onix didn’t allow it. Brock looked at the spikey-haired kid “Do you surrender?”
Ash looked as his friend was being slowly squeezed tighter and tighter, he put his head down and whispered “I do”
Onix began moving closer to him and Ash and gently lowered the knocked out Pikachu. Ash ran and picked him up and looked at Max.
He shook his head and pointed at the GYM trainer “I have to talk to him for a bit, you go and get Pikachu to the Pokémon Center. After I’m done here I’ll try to find Misty.”
The kid looked at Brock and hesitated but nodded and began walking out. When Max saw that he had gone through the entrance doors he turned and looked back at Brock “That was one nasty thing you did there Brock. You said that the battle was going to be with 2 pokémon each yet you blackmailed him into surrendering.”
Brock shrugged “I don’t want to hurt pokémon if I don’t have to. If I let him call out a second pokémon then the result would repeat itself and another pokémon will just get injured. Now I advise you to train harder before you come and challenge me.”
Max shook his head and gave the GYM leader a smile “No can do, if I remember correctly you said that you had to accept any challenge right. Now let’s get this thing started then.”
Brock shook his head and brought out a pokéball and yelled “Come on out Geodude”
A light shined and the floating rock pokémon appeared and hit its fist together “GEO, GEO, GEODUDE”
Max smiled and reached into his pocket and brought out Zweilous. Brock got surprised and inspected the hairy blue pokemon from afar. Since Max knew that the GYM leader wanted to be a pokémon breeder he waited until he seemed to have gotten his fill. As soon as Brock lost interest he whistled his orders, Zweilous immediately began running as it fired Dragon Pulses on Geodude. The rock pokémon was trying it’s best dodging the green spheres of light that were coming from both heads of Zweilous.
It was getting hit every now and then since they kept on coming in a random rhythm. At first, it was trying to use the rocks on the platform to protect itself but the attacks completely destroyed any cover that the pokémon could find. Brock looked at the barrage of attacks that were being sent and yelled: “Geo Dude use harden”.
As soon as Max heard the move he smiled and gave a new whistle. For Geodude to use harden he would have to stop moving for a few seconds, and as soon as it did both Zweilous heads were ready and they used Dark Pulse on the rock pokmon. Geodude was able to see the dark wavy ray of dark light but by then it was too late, all it could do was try to shield its body with its arms but the force of the attack knocked it out and sent it flying out of the arena.
Brok looked at Max and then at Zweilous and smiled “Looks like you are not the same as that kid earlier. That sure is one interesting pokémon you got there, I imagine it’s not from around here.”
Max nodded “Yeah it’s from another region, and the reason that we could do so well is because we have known each other for five years. As for Ash, he is a good person and I’m sure with some more experience he will become a pretty good trainer. Anyway, let’s keep going, after this I have to find someone.”
Brock nodded “Yeah now that you mention it, it’s getting pretty late and I still need to make dinner.”
The Gym leader brought out a pokéball “You’re pokémon might be great but like you’ve seen my Onix isn’t someone that will easily go down.”
He threw the pokéball and out of the light appeared the giant rock snake pokémon. As the gym leader was about to open his mouth to give an order Max called Zweilous back to its pokéball. The gym leader looked at him surprised as Max dug into his pocket, grabbed another pokéball, and brought out Gyarados.
He threw it out and from the light appeared the storm dragon, as soon as Brock saw it he was left with his mouth open. He actually jumped onto the platform and began walking towards it. When he was about 5 ft away Gyarados roared and hit Brock with a bolt of lighting.
The gym leader was sent flying into Onix. When the rock snake saw that its trainer got hurt it began charging at Gyarados. It used Iron Tail and tried to hit the underbelly of a storm dragon but Gyarados hit it with a Hydro Pump before it even had the chance. The thing was that it seemed to have remembered what Max had told it and ended up putting electricity in the attack as well.
Onix was left there laying on the ground, he walked up to the Gyarados who seemed to be preparing hyper beam and began patting it’s upper body “Take it easy big boy, you can’t use that type of attack indoors otherwise the whole building will come down on us.”
The storm dragon gave one last stare at Onix and brought it’s head down to Max and began nuzzling him. “I need to go check on the guy you just knocked out, stay here and be ready in case Onix tries to attack me.”
Gyarados roared and turned towards the pokémon that was still laying down. Max sighed and began to look at Brock who at the moment was unconscious. He grabbed a water bottle and spilled it on the gym leader’s face.
Brock quickly raised his head and gasped for air, he looked around and found Onix laying down. He looked at Max and began to show anger before he could say anything Max pointed at Onix “Your pokémon went wild when you got knocked out and tried attacking Gyarados. He defended himself and well that’s the result. Anyway sorry about that little accident, he’s not used to being approached by strangers.”
The gym leader shook his head “Don’t worry about it, I already knew that Gyarados was bad-tempered but I completely blanked when I saw it’s odd coloration. I’ve heard of Red Gyarados but never a golden one especially not one who has the lighting element.”
Max nodded and helped Brock up “Yeah it surprised me as well, we were training together with a Charmander when it suddenly evolved.”
Brock took another peek at the storm dragon and then called back Onix into the pokéball. He began digging into his pocket and handed him the boulder badge. Max pointed at it “Are you sure?”.
The gym leader smiled and nodded “I can tell that your Pokémon wasn’t injured in the slightest meaning that it took care of Onix swiftly, besides it’s my fault this whole thing happened.”
Max smiled and took it and then he called Gyarados back. He gave Brock a thumbs up “Alright then I’ll take it, but can I ask you something real quick.”
Brock looked at him confused “What is it?”
“Well, you think that I could keep it a secret that I got the boulder badge? They don’t know about Gyarados and I want to keep it that way at least for now, I know that it’s an odd thing to ask for but I have my reasons.”
The gym leader nodded “Alright it doesn’t affect me in any way.”
Max said his goodbyes and began walking around trying to find Misty. He found her sitting on a bench looking at a pond that had some Goldeen swimming around. Max sneaked next to her and whispered “UMM Misty can I talk to you for a minute?”
She turned around and looked at him for a second but then quickly turned away “What do you want? I already know about you and your crazy plans.”
Max nodded and thought “Yeah it’s all because of that idiot”, he sat down beside her and sighed “Look hear me out, if you still don’t want to talk to me after that then I will respect your opinion”
He took her silence as a yes so he began to think of what he was supposed to say. “So listen when I was a kid there was a part of my life when I felt alone. I felt like an oddball, you can ask Ash if you don’t believe me. We lived in a small village for 5 years and not once did he notice that I existed. The only people that loved me were my parents and I was able to see how much my mother cared about my father. That’s when I got the crazy idea of having multiple wives that would always be there for me when I needed them. Anyway, I’ll leave you for now I’ll let you think about it.”
She quickly shook her head and looked at him with teary eyes “There’s nothing to think about, I’m not willing to share you with anyone else. If you can’t promise me that I won’t have to then forget about me.”
He could see that in her eyes that she had a glimmer of hope, he took a deep breath and shook his head “Sorry I have 2 girls that I think have been waiting for me these 5 years, no matter how much I want to promise you it wouldn’t be fair if I did.”
She lowered her hair and nodded “Then I guess that’s that, from now on we can only be friends and nothing else.”
Max took her hand and hugged her “I’m sorry, I should have told you earlier but I was afraid that you would decide to stay as far from me and it got harder and harder every time I wanted to tell you. Tomorrow after Ash challenges Brock again I will be leaving and going back to Pallet Town for a while. I hope that I will see you again during our trips.”
She nodded and he held on to her for another minute before he began to release her and gave her a kiss on the forehead “That’s for stealing my first kiss hehe.”
He turned around and began walking away from her. For an unknown amount of time he spaced out, when he was brought back down to earth he began looking around and found himself next to the Pokémon Center. He looked up at it and teleported to the rooftop of what seemed the 15th or 16th floor. He brought out a blanket and pillow and looked at the sky. He fell asleep thinking of the orange-haired girl who had in a way rejected him.
The next morning he teleported to the forest and headed to the GYM. He went inside and found that Ash was still not there and sat on the stairs. Misty was the first one to arrive and together they waited for Ash in total silence. After a few minutes, the spiky-haired kid showed up and began the battle. Just like the anime, he used Pidgeotto first and Brock used Geodude, after the bird pokémon was knocked out he made Pikachu go in.
The yellow furball roasted the Geodude with it’s powered up Thunder Shock attack that Brock hadn’t expected. Unfortunately, Pikachu’s attack was still not enough to beat Onix and ended up being wrapped around the rock snake’s tail once more.
Pikachu began shooting Thunder Shock like crazy and ended up creating a fire that set off the sprinkler system.
When he was about to attack the 10 siblings of Brock showed up and began trying to make him stop. The kid decided to accept his loss and followed with Misty and Max they began to walk to the trail that led to the next city which was Ceruleum City.
Suddenly they heard Brock yelling after them “You guys wait up”
They stopped and turned around, Brock smiled and handed Ash the boulder badge “Here Ash you earned it.”
The kid hesitated but took it in the end. Max looked at Brock and shook his hand “Why don’t you join them?”
Ash looked at him confused “What do you mean by them? What about you.”
Max glanced at Misty and shook his head “I need some things that I need to work out” he leaned closer to the kid and whispered, “Take care of her for me okay.”
Brock interrupted “Sorry I can’t, I’m the only one that my siblings have left.”
Max looked at the approaching figure of Flint and smiled on the inside “That’s your cue, dude.”
“You go ahead, I’ll take care of them.”
Brock turned around and looked at his father and nodded “Alright but first I have some things I have to tell you.”
He ended giving the old man instructions on how to take care of his 10 siblings. After he was done Max gave his goodbyes and headed back to Viridian Forest, once he was sure that no one was looking he transported back to the cave and laid down as he waited for Lance and Serenity to come back.
