- 142 Chapter 142. An aide's dilemma
Alexander was there standing at the entrance of the dining room, staring intensely at the young boy, who wasn’t supposed be here right at this moment.
Peter was now sweating. His simple robes, which were easily allowing enough air to cool his body, were feeling so heavy and constricted right now. He was feeling being closed off right now. The heavy and piercing gaze of the Emperor was the definite reason for it.
Peter couldn’t even raise his head. He knew this moment would eventually come. But, he was preparing for prepared confrontation. Not sudden one, like this. He was tongue tied, didnt know what to say.
“Why are here, when you are supposed to be with the Crown Prince as his aide, protecting him and being by his side?” Alexander spoke, with calm tone. This was even more scary for Peter, as the Emperor never used to talk to him this way.
“These were the orders from the Crown Prince himself, your highness.” Peter spoke up. His voice was surprisingly calm and collected and didnt break in the middle, which Peter was very thankful of.
Though, it was the total opposite of what he is feeling. The nervousness was building up inside him and the fear was clouding over his heart, increasing its pace. Now, with the added negative emotions, he couldn’t lift his eyes to look at the Emperor.
Alexander stated at Peter. He didn’t understand what exactly he was talking about. He was almost sure, that he saw Peter going with his son, when he departed.
“Explain.” Alexander said. A curt word with a monotone was enough for Peter to start his ramble. But, before he could speak out the words, the Emperor gave out another order.
“And, look at me, while you speak.” The second order came out and Peter snapped his head to look at the Emperor. Once, he made an eye contact with the elder, he bowed once again, as a formal and normal greeting.
“Your Highness, after you gave out your words, His Highness, Crown Prince, gave me an order to stay at the Palace for the security of Her Highness, Princess Aeinshia.
I refused his Highness’ order, as I couldnt defy your orders. Because, your highness’ order are the first and foremost for all of us people. But, His Highness claimed Princess Aeinshia’s security is much greater than his, as he has a whole army protecting him.
I couldn’t defy his orders and go against his wish and accompany him. And, stayed back, for the protection of Her Highness Princess Aeinshia, as per Crown Prince’s orders.”
Peter completed and took a deep breath. He was so worked up and that could be clearly heard in his voice and could be clearly seen in his hands, that desperately moved to clearly explain the Emperor, about his situation.
But, on other hand, he couldn’t stop himself of the building up anger inside him. How could Evan be so careless and leave Peter here in the Palace?
Alexander was highly aware, Evan had an army and he, himself was very much capable for his protection. But, he had much more experience in these things, and he feared surprise attacks on his eldest child.
That was the main reason, why he appointed a personal aide, Peter for Evan. He made sure, they always stayed beside each other. He always stressed the importance of protecting the Crown Prince and the value of Evan’s life to Peter, when he started his job.
Not to be baised or anything, but, Evan’s life was much more important for Alexander.
Evan, was the future Emperor of the empire and its his responsibility to protect the heir, till the crowning. And, he would fulfill his duty, till that time.
Don’t misunderstand Alexander. He loves both Evan and Aeinshia. To say, he favored Aeinshia more than his son. But, there are many guards, hete at the Palace. His personal guards, who only accompany the Emperor, the strongest and Ber much capable than any other guards in the empire, to accompany the Rutz Princess.
Alexander sighed out loud. He glanced at Peter and came to a decision.
“Peter, would you listen to my words?” Alexander slowly asked, Peter, who was standing still infront of him, with his hands clasped in front of him.
Peter looked up, she he heard the Emperor. His eyes widened a bit, but he quickly composed himself and bowed his head deeply. showing his commitment towards the Emperor.
“Your words are our order, Your Highness. As the citizens of Seazle, our first duty is to protect the empire on the Emperor’s guidance. I would not over step any of your orders, unless said otherwise by the Crown Prince, whose orders I can never put aside, as per your word, Your Highness.”
Peter spoke his words, with the clarity he had on his duty. Alexander stared at Peter. He was amazed by his words. He didn’t expect for him to speak that way. Especially, the last words.
Of course, the words that he said, when Peter was barely eight, were directed towards himt today and that were definitely going to be a great hurdle for the order, he was going to give next.
“I need you to go to the East. For, the safety of the Crown Prince. As his aide. you are supposed to be there. Anything else, it would mine to handle and not for you to worry.” Alexander replied in a stern tone.
Alexander was never the rude type. Even, when he was passing the orders, he was never that, unless needed. That means, when he is dead serious about something and is expecting everyone to listen to his orders and carry them out, without any problems.
And, right now, he was doing that exactly. He felt that Peter’s presence here was unnecessary as there was nothjgn eventful taking place here. Whereas, in the East, the unknown attacks might be waiting for the Crown Prince.
Even, with the army and personal trained guards, a General and himself to protect Evan, he couldn’t keep the feeling of something going wrong with Evan, was gnawing at his core. His feelings, gut feelings were never wrong and he was afraid, those will effect his heir and son.
But, little do the Emperor Alexander Seazle knew, this time his gut feelings were wrong and were directing him straight to the dangers, than the sad side.
Peter stood there, shocked. He didnt know how to reply to tho order of the Emperor. Yes, he told that he can’t defy his orders, but he also, can’t defy what his direct superior, Evan said to him.
Peter just looked at the Emperor for sometime and can to a decision. He stood up straight, his back straightened and looked at the elder in front of him, with determined eyes. He was going to fulfill his duty.
Alexander looked at the young boy, in front of him, who was getting ready to announce his decision to him. Alexander knew, what was coming. He knew what was the decision Peter was about to say. It was a rule written on the rock for Peter and he knew, that the no was never going to go off the rules written by the Emperor, for him.
Peter bowed deeply and then, stood back again. “My apologies, Mighty Emperor. I don’t mean to offend in any ways, but it would defy my loyalty to my direct superior, the Crown Prince. And, I can’t do that, in any way.
I also, can’t overstep your rules that were set, when I was appointed as a personal aide for the Crown Prince. My past words and vows and loyalty can’t be forgotten now, Your Highness.
I deeply apologize, that this time, I can’t follow your orders.”
Peter bowed again, after the apology and stayed like that for few minutes, before raising up. Peter knew this would consequences, but he just can’t defy his past words and vows, as he said earlier.
Alexander was truly impressed with the younger. He expected this from him. He was happy and proud, that he made a right decision by choosing Peter as the trusting guard for Evan.
But, right now, he has to convince this hard headed, dedicated aide to go for the protection of his direct superior, than to be at the Palace, at the moment.
“Are you going against me, young man?” Alexander questioned, with brows raised.
Peter stood his stance. “I apologize, if my words came out that way. I never intended to that. Honestly speaking with you, Your Highness, I’m following your orders, that were given to me, when I was starting my duties. I hope you understand, my stance, Your Highness.” Peter bowed again.
Alexander sighed. Now, he has no other option, but to let out the truth. He didn’t want to do that, without the permission from Aeinshia, but right now this was important.
“These would be final words, Your Highness. I hope you would understand my reasoning.” Peter told with finality in his voice and kept his head low, looking at the ground. He cant look at the Emperor, after he has just denied to follow his orders and decided it was best this way.
“Peter…”
