Reborn princess: I will change my ill-fate - 155 Chapter 155. Death- 2
There stood Peter, with a dead serious look on his face. If looks could kill, then the maid would already have been dead by now. His face was stoic and his eyes had a deathly glint in it. His stretched out hand, was barely inches away from the maid.
Peter was observing every single change on her expression on the maid’s face, trying to see what is going on in her mind. Though, he was serious and stoic faced, he was having an internal struggle in remembering her familiar face.
When he saw the fear settling in her eyes, a light went on in his head. It was the maid from the last day. The maid with Shirley. He couldn’t mistake it, because when he saw Shirley holding her in a chocking position, this maid had the same sense of fear in her eyes.
Now, the suspicions on Shirley was as high as Mount Everest in Peter’s mind. He always had a suspicion on her and yesterday’s was a catalyst to increase it. And, now Shirley’s association with this maid, who was receiving some sort of messages from carrier birds, only confirmed his doubt’s.
Peter clenched his jaw and spoke once more, “Surrender.” His voice cold and commanding. As soon as he said that word, the expression on the lady’s face chamged drastically. The fear in her eyes, settled into something unknown.
Knowing that she wasn’t going to surrender, he held his stretched arm down and took a step towards her.
It all happened in a blink of eye. Peter took a step towards the maid and she responded by ducking and kick in him on his knee. As Peter went down, she turned on her heel and attempted to run, but Peter was no idiot to not have anticipated this move.
From his position, he stretched his other leg, which wasn’t kicked and managed to trip the maid. The woman fell face first and struggled to get up, but she knew these were all futile attempts.
Now, she did the only thing that she was taught. Death…..
She reached for the ring, she wore on her left hand and opened it. The ring was a veil containing the most deadly venom of all time. It was extracted from a poisonous snake, which had no cure, if the venom came in contact with any human.
Peter struggled to get up, as the blow to his knee was quite hard, but he forces himself to move as fast as possible, when he observed the maid was doing something.
When Peter reached to her, she already took in the poison and she was attempting to swallow the paper, which the carrier bird just dropped. Peter’s hand reacted immediately, as he held the hand of the woman which was trying to reach the mouth, desperately.
He was panting heavily, when the struggle ended. He was disappointed that he didn’t expect tho move and lost her life. She could have been a good source for information about the enemies of the Seazle empire, but he knew it would be futile.
If the lady could die without a second thought, then she would always choose death over spill in out the secrets about the enemies. But, through all these negatives, the only positive thing that happened, was he was able to save the secret message.
Peter struggled to open the tightly clenched fist. He just hoped that the writing on it wouldn’t be erased or the paper wouldn’t tear down. Luckily, he was relieved that the paper and the writing were intact, when he secured the message.
But the problem was, he couldn’t understand a thing written in that. It was very scattered and appeared to be some alienated language. He tried to look closely, but there was nothing he could understand.
Moreover, the words were written minutely. They were so small and needed to be seem closely to decipher. Peter took the small note and kept it close to his eyes. He squinted and tried to read the words, but they made no sense.
When he almost gave up on the big content of the small piece of paper, he caught sight of something at the end. He squinted again and tried to read the letter.
The meaning of the sentence he managed to understand, made his eyes widen and being to panic.
‘Make sure to get the Princess into the trap.’
Was the reason for his panic. His mind was short circuiting and he wadnt able to understand things well. He wasn’t able to process anything. So, he stopped and clenched his eyes shut.
He turned back and shouted for the gaurds nearby. Two guards came running at the shout of him and were stunned in the place, when they saw a maid lying dead on the ground. Peter quickly mumbled some orders for the guards about the body.
“Make sure to leave the body Royal Physician Paul, for examination. I would be visiting the Emperor to give the information. Orders would be passed for the further actions.” Peter dictated in a stern tone and passed by them to go to the Emperor’s quarters.
He needed to report this issue as soon as possible. When he was stepping away from the hallways, he saw some other guards were coming in to assist the other ones near the dead body. He payed them, no mind and increased his pace towards the Emperor’s chambers.
He was panting by the time he reached the Emperor’s chambers. The guards outside noticed him and he urgently stated the purpose for his visit.
But, as Peter was speaking, Alexander stepped out of his room, to attend his daily duties. Alexander was surprised seeing Peter in front of his chambers.
‘What is he doing here? Wasn’t her supposed to leave to the East? Did he find out that Aeinshia went? Maybe he heard the rumors.’ Alexander’s eyes narrowed at the thoughts in his head.
Peter who was frantically talking to the guards noticed the Emperor’s presence and ran towards him. “Greetings, your highness. There is an emergency in the Palace.” He panted out and Alexander frowned at the tone and the state of Peter.
Peter wordlessly stretched his hand out and held out the paper he got and Alexander took it out of hands. Alexander squirted his eyes, when he couldn’t read anything. He drew the paper near his eyes and tried to read it, with still squinted eyes.
Peter waited there, not saying a word, as he knew the Emperor absolutely hated when someone interrupted him, when he was thinking or concentrating on something. He knew, the Emperor would soon get to see what he saw.
A few seconds passed by and Peter saw the older’s head snap towards him. Peter nodded his head, as if confirming that it was the truth. He could practically see the gears working in the head of the elder before him.
Alexander spoke nothing, but let his brain work some connections. He was starting to realize the threat has crept into the Palace. He looked at Peter and without another word, Peter explained what had taken place from start to the end.
“Aeinshia has left for her journey early this morning. It was decided last night and some of my trusted guards are there to accompany her. What do you think about the last line is about? Which princess are they talking about?” Alexander asked, while looking into the space before him.
Peter wasn’t sure if the question was directed towards him. Both the men, were lost in their thoughts, trying toake sense of the things that were taking place in the Palace.
Alexander was starting to regret all the decisions that he took from the past three days. The enemies were in his Palace all this long and he was concentrating on outside things. He should have payed some attention, should have considered this possibility.
And, he was starting to doubt his intuition and gut feeling. He thought something was going to happen to Evan and discarded all the others, who were equally as important to the kingdom.
He looked at Peter and a plan formed in his head. “I’ll pass the orders to shut down the Palace to all the servants except the trusted ones. The princess mentioned can be anyone. Assist the two Seazle princesses to the Queen’s quarters and you, start this instant and follow the Rutz princess to the City Sylter.
She would take this journey every year. I think the enemies would be targeting her. She isn’t in the Palace, there is a big possibility of the trap being there. I’m not sure what it is, but you need to rush now, for their assistance.”
Peter nodded his head, “Your order, your highness.” Saying this, he retreated from the quarters and raced towards the common stables of the Palace, which was on the other side of the Emperor’s chambers.
As soon as he reached, he didn’t even think twice. He fastened the saddle on his horse and jumped on it. Racing to the City, where the doom of the Princess Aeinshia was written.
