- 156 Chapter 156. The journey- 2
The guards were also on high alert, ready to face any danger that can come from any way in their direction. They were currently passing through a trail filled with thick trees. It was a big hindrance to their journey, as the trees and ground covered with leaves and twigs were delaying their horse’s course.
They also couldn’t continue with their form and were going behind each other. Similar to the first position, they were going with the men guarding the woman from front and back.
“This trail would be like this for sometime. After this, we can increase our speed and reach the city faster.” George, who was in the front making sure that there were no traps in the front, informed the people at the back. His sharp eyes landed on the trail ahead as he proceeded further.
Aeinshia nodded her head. Her hood was taken down, as the humidity was becoming too much to bear. All of them had their hoods down and were proceeding in peace.
Dead silence has enveloped the four people proceeding on their journey, except the breaking of twigs and the swoosh of the leaves of the trees, while swaying with wind. Aeinshia decided to strike up a conversation, as the atmosphere was becoming too awkward for her. This situation made her believe that silence surely is the deadliest weapon to kill others.
Since Oliver got a lively personality compared to the other knights, she hoped for him to join in a conversation, but her hopes got crashed at the end, as all of them became serious once the journey started, having Oliver as a no exception.
“So, for how long are you all working as the personal guards of the Emperor? ” Aeinshia broke the silence between them and hoped that this wasn’t some awkward question. She didn’t want to come up as weird or awkward person to them.
It was George who answered the question, as expected by Aeinshia. “Sana had been scouted by the Emperor personally, when she was eight. I and Oliver had joined the training as personal guards, when we were nine, your highness, ” He answered, while still very much focused on the security job.
Aeinshia was fascinated by the information. Truly speaking, she admired Sana. She remembered how her uncle announced the mandatory education for the girls of the empire and they could get into government based jobs, at the Cosmos Lake Festival.
But, Sana was present in his personal army, for several years now. She wanted to know her more. “Are there anymore woman among the Emperor’s personal army?” She asked, it was directed to no one in particular, but this time Sana answered, much to Aeinshia’s relief, as she didn’t want to point out her for talking.
“If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you, Sana?” Aeinshia tried her best not to sound strange or weird and she was thankful that her voice and tone didn’t betray her. Sana turned to face Aienshia and gave her a small smile.
“I’m just two years older than you, Your Highness.” Sana said, while maintaining the smile. Aeinshia mentally appreciatiated herself, as she was right about her assumption of Sana’s age.
After the question, Aeinshia didn’t even know how to continue the conversation and she could feel the others were too shy to start a conversation with a royal. So, Aeinshia just decided to pay attention to the nature surrounding her.
Her horse, Brownie, was following the other horses before her. So, she could observe her surroundings without any problem of them, getting distracted. Moreover, Oliver was behind her and she was assured they would provide great security to her.
As she really paid her attention to the nature around her, the musky earthy smell from the slightly damp ground, combined with the wild flowers scent, registered in her brain. Unconsciously, Aeinshia took in a deep breath, appreciating the scent of the nature.
She was always a nature person, but due to all the preoccupied thoughts in her brain, she had never concentrated on her hobbies and interaction with nature. It almost slipped out of her mind.
She now, paid no attention, to the things that interested her. All she was focused in were problems, but not on betterment of herself. The realization, made her a bit guilty. She also, know her worries were inevitable.
Unless, she found a way to set right her life, she wouldn’t be at peace and enjoy her surroundings. She truly hated this. She wondered if this was even necessary. She could’ve just died that day and spent her time happily in the heaven or hell. Or maybe, she could be reincarnated with no memories of the past and get revenge.
When these kind of new thoughts, were sinking in, she really wondered, why had she wished for the time to rewind. It would be better if she reincarnated, without any memories. But, it was too late now, she couldn’t change anything now, except her ill fate.
She sighed heavily and a thick voice cut through the air, snapping her into the reality from her thoughts. “We will soon cross this forest area. From there, we can increase our pace, to reach there faster, as per your wish, your highness.”
It was George again. Aeinshia could now see the density of the trees had decreased and ahead in a few meters, there was an opening to the thick forest trail. From there, they can proceed faster. If they maintained the speed, they could reach the City Sylter before noon. And, reach the temple on the small mountain, by noon.
Their plan was to reach the temple by noon, so they can return back to the Capital soon. A little after the dark, they can reach the Palace, if they could start faster. That’s what was discussed among them. But, Aeinshia doubted this would happen.
She knew, the people would be ready to attack them, but she could not tell them that, except that they had to stay extra careful, while going to the temple.
Soon, they were out of the forest and they reassumed their diagonal position, from, when they started from the Palace. Their horses were on increased pace, now, approaching their destination fastly.
As they were moving forward, Aeinshia was getting more and more nervous. Somehow, she was feeling that this plan would somehow fail. Most part of her was confident, that the plan will go as per she expected, but somewhere at the back of her mind, there was this voice, that was telling her, that the enemies would get to her and she would experience all of that horrible things again.
Suddenly, Brownie jumped too harshly, startling Aeinshia from her frozen stupor and she realized that Sana was staring at her with concerned gaze. Aeinshia made a confused face, Sana featured for the cloak she wore and realization dawned on her.
Sana had been calling Aeinshia for three times now and the princess wasn’t responding. Sana was concerned what was the Princess thinking about in this depth, that she couldn’t even hear her voice, which was very much near her ear.
Aeinshia weakly smiled at Sana and pulled up her hood over her head, which covered most part of their faces to the other people. Aeinshia decided to push all of her unnecessary doubts to the back of her head and continue to focus on her goal of capturing her enemies.
…..
Peter was rushing on his horse, with fast speed. He was hunched up holding the ropes to control his horse’s direction. Wind was pushing his hair back, revealing his serious and focused gaze.
He had to get to City Sylter as soon as possible. Now, everything seemed to making sense to him. The worry he saw on his friend Evan’s face, while practically begging him to stay back. He didn’t know, how was Evan able to predict that, but he was amazed at that gesture.
He was also, thankful he didn’t just go to the East, discarding the things he heard as just rumors. He was glad, that he paid attention to his prodding gut feeling and maybe could be right. He hoped that whatever danger that was awaiting the princess, he could be there to fight it.
He couldn’t ever face his friend, if anything ever happened to the Princess. Evan loved Aienshia with his whole heart and trusted him and only him on her safety. And, Peter would not allow any danger to even touch the Princess. He wasn’t going to neglect his duty, like he did the other day.
“The trust you placed in me, I would make sure to keep it. I will protect Princess Aeinshia from any danger.”
Peter promised to himself and hoped he would reach his destination on time.
