Reborn: The Lion To Hunt The Wolf - Chapter 189
—-In the cafeteria—–
“I’m new here. May I ask, what is the Young Master like inside the company?” Mei Ling asked them with a sweet smile.
“I actually thought that you were different from others, Miss Mei. Turns out you are after Young Master too,” scoffed a female worker.
Mingwan tugged her co-worker’s elbow: “Stop picking on new members. Miss Mei came from the States and doesn’t know anything.”
The other female worker then said, “So what? We all are women. What’s there to hide. Everyone here admires the Young Master. Who doesn’t want to be his woman?”
Mingwan silently whispered at Mei Ling: “I heard that the Young Master rarely comes to the office and is always seen with Young Master Lin.”
Another person said: “There was even a rumor that they are a thing, you know!!”
However, Mei Ling pressed hard on her chopsticks, and continued to pretend as if she was asking innocently: “Is Mr. Lin and Young Master’s relationship that close?”
The worker who first mocked Mei Ling whispered: “Yes! Also with that ȧssistant who worked in your position before, Mr. Ye Xian.”
Another worker: “They don’t look like a boss and employee, more like partners.”
“Bed partners maybe… hehe!”
“I am going to get some dessert.”
Mei Ling picked up her empty plate.
“I’ll go to my station, I need to catch up on a lot of work,” she said as she left the cafeteria.
After arriving at her floor, she stepped out of the elevator. The moment Mei Ling stepped onto the floor, Assistant Yang Zhen entered Yue Xiang’s room.
Mei Ling saw it was a perfect time and raised her eyes to look toward the closed door.
One of the advantages of being in Yue Xiang’s workstation was the lack of CCTV cameras all over the floor, recording everything.
The next moment.
Standing in front of the door, she peeked through the peephole to see that there the man sitting in the rolling chair and was talking in his phone
Today, Yue Xiang did not wear a suit. Instead, he wore a simple black shirt and pants. His figure was extremely eye-catching. He sat there quietly, his taciturn and reserved demeanor made him look distant.
Yang Zhen: “Young Master, this is the scope of our Empire’s recent cooperation with various large educational institutions. Among which…”
Mein Ling muttered unconsciously: “Empire!!”
Suddenly, that cold eyes gazed right at her, in a panic, she slid down and squatted on the floor with sweat breaking out on her face.
‘DAMN it! That was so close.’
…
…
Late night at the Yue Crop.
Just as everyone was leaving, Yue Xiang came out of the Yue Crop and was getting ready to enter his car.
Yang Zhen, following behind him with some files in his arms, said: “Young Master, here is that file you asked for.”
Accepting the file from Yang Zhen, Yue Xiang stood before his car’s door: “Has the Li Crop caused any trouble recently?”
Yang Zhen shook his head and pushed his glasses up higher on his nose. “Nothing out of the ordinary. The only thing to note is that Miss Li Biyu invited two men to dine together yesterday with Elder Li at a private restaurant.”
Yue Xiang’s brow frowned as his index finger unintentionally tapped out a rhythm on the car door. “Who are they?”
Yue Zhen shook his head and took out a small black book, seemingly from nowhere. With his head down, he quickly flipped through the pages, looking for the information. As quickly as he brought out the book, he snapped it shut and hid it again. “I have no information on any of them other than the fact that their accent is not from our city. In addition, one man walked with crutches and both seemed very familiar to Ms. Li. It is clear that this was not their first meeting. Should I have our men investigate them?”
“It’ll be fine. No matter what they do, it’s meani-” Before Yue Xiang could finish his words, a figure stumbled over him, almost falling into his arms.
In shock, the file slipped from his hands as the air around them quickly turned cold.
Seeing what had just occurred in front of him, Yang Zhen’s face lost all colour. Shaking his head at the stupidity of some people, he thought in his heart that it was over. His disbelief was soon replaced with bewilderment when he saw the face of the person that had intentionally “fallen” into Yue Xiang’s arms. “Miss. Mei! What are you doing?”
Frozen to the spot in rage and hatred, Yue Xiang flung her off. Shuddering as if rotten garbage had been dumped on him, he quickly removed his jacket. Knowing what was about to happen, Yang Zhen pulled out a wet wipe from the mysterious pocket, unfolded it and handed it to his boss. Wiping each finger individually, Yue Xiang acted as if he was touched by a virus. The cold air started to burn with as ice could almost be seen spreading out from his feet. Handing the wipe back to Yang Zhen, only to have it disappear, Yue Xiang stared down at the woman trying to stand up from the garage floor.
However, Mei Ling’s attitude did not show an ounce of embarrassment at all as she gathered herself and stood up on heels that were really too high. She quickly arranged herself back together, smoothed down the skirt and jacket she was wearing and picked up the file from the ground with a sneer.
Making sure not to touch her, Yang Zhen quickly rushed over and took the file back. “Let me have this, if you don’t mind,” he said politely, but with frost in his voice as well. If she held on to it much longer, Yue Xiang would force him to burn the file and he would have to start over again. Yue Xiang really did not like it when others touched what was his… especially the young miss, Mei Ling.
Looking distant, she bowed her head to Yue Xiang and schooled her features: “Forgive me, Young Master, it was simply an accident.”
Without replying, Yue Xiang turned to enter his car, but not before looking at Yang Zhen with a cloudy face. “Replace the file before you give it back.”
Yang Zhen sighed with annoyance, upset that Mei Ling had just made more work for him. “Miss Mei, do you need something?”
“Assistant Yang, here is the report you asked me to complete,” Mei Ling said in a professional tone.
“You could have easily placed it on my desk. Why did you bother to come in person? I will review it tomorrow,” Yang Zhen shook his head, not giving her an ounce of the face. He had seen many tricks over the years of women trying to get closer to his boss, but he had never seen a woman who didn’t blush or stammer before his boss.
‘She is really professional!’
