Reborn: The Lion To Hunt The Wolf - Chapter 239
—Inside-the-Xiao-Villa—-
Elder Xiao didn’t say anything after hearing the sudden arrival of Elder Su. He just stared at the newspaper in his hand.
After a period of silence, he glanced at Mr. Hong, “Go ahead with the preparations and let them in.”
With Mr.Hong’s departure, the hall became silent once more. Elder Xiao slowly raised his head. His expression darkened as he looked at his best friend entering the hall with his granddaughter. ‘What are you trying to do?’
As Su Yunying entered the hall, she saw an old man sitting on the couch. Even though he was in his sixties, his back was still straight and his movements looked well-trained. His posture was like a soldier stationed on the national border.
Elder Xiao’s expression turned gloomy, he did not expect that his friend would bring his granddaughter along. After all, his granddaughter never once set her foot in the Xiao villa, the most she would do was send her regards through Elder Su.
So, Elder Xiao had no idea that today was the day that things would change.
Su Dingfang chuckled lightly as he entered the room and saw Elder Xiao sitting down, “It seems like Bro Xiao doesn’t really welcome us.”
Elder Xiao shifted his cold and indifferent gaze back into a normal one and spoke mildly, “Brother Su is overthinking. After all, anyone who visits my Xiao Villa is a guest. How could I possibly not welcome you?”
Su Yunying surveyed the hall and fell into disappointment upon seeing that Elder Xiao was sitting by himself, however, she masked it well and bowed her head, “Master Xiao, long time no see.”
Elder Xiao smiled and returned her nod. Although his face was smiling, his smile clearly did not reach his eyes. “En, come in and take a seat.”
Su Dingfang and Su Yunying picked the couch across from Elder Xiao and sat down for a chat.
Elder Xiao’s expression appeared as per normal. His gaze flitted between the two of them. “Is there any purpose for this unexpected visit?”
Su Dingfang tapped his ŀȧp and said: “It’s just that I came over so suddenly today as I’ll be flying to Europe tomorrow. I’ve made some plans with old friends and I can’t cancel on them. So, I thought about meeting you before I left.”
After a moment of silence, he continued: “Is the Young Master Xiao at home? I heard that the investors were happy with him as he made 3 billion dollars on his first day of taking a position by selling new security software. This reminds me so much of your son, he was a unique child.”
Elder Xiao’s gaze turned heavy as he spoke: “Back in those days, I was always busy with Xiao International Crop and missed a lot of my son’s childhood. Before I could get away from the company, my son and daughter in law passed away without even leaving their bodies behind.”
“Brother Su, let the past be past. Somehow your grandson miraculously survived that day. Now we have to make sure that he gets familiarised with the business world. Some people might feel that since he has lived away from the Xiao family so long, he might lack some composure. I believe that…”
Before he could finish, Elder Xiao cut him off: “Brother Su! Once, a young woman said to me: ‘It is no one’s obligation to show everyone what they are. As long as there are people who trust us unconditionally, that will be good enough,’ and I believe my grandson wants to do it with all his strength.”
Hearing this, Su Yunying abruptly spoke up with an admiring face: “Nicely said! Who was that young woman?”
Elder Xiao’s lips curved up with contentment: “Little Wan.”
Both had a questioning expression on their face. “Huh?”
Right then Xiao Ran, in her professional dress, walked over and sat next to her grandfather and snickered: “Grandpa, how could others understand Yue Wan by her nickname? You are getting muddle-headed these days… you must be still daydreaming of your great-grandchildren.” The last part was muttered under her breath which was audible for Elder Xiao alone.
As soon as Yue Wan’s name was mentioned, Su Yunying’s polite smile stiffened and her consciousness shut out, Although she concealed her emotions in an instant, her dislike could be apparent to all. The name rang clearly in her ears repeatedly.
The smile on Su Dingfang’s face faded. He knew that Elder Xiao’s attitude was hard for people to connect with him, so how did this Yue Miss become so close that she was addressed by a nickname. ‘Did my investigations miss something?’
Elder Xiao cleared his throat and gave a hard stare at Xiao Ran to mind her manners.
Su Dingfang politely smiled at Xiao Ran and asked, looking up at the stairs, “Is the Young Master still upstairs, Princess?”
Taking the green tea offered by Advisor Yu, Xiao Ran shrugged her shoulder: “He left the house early in the morning to meet someone.”
Recalling that someone, Xiao Ran had a hard time controlling her laugh, she used the teacup to hide it.
Su Yunying’s expression did not reveal much of her emotions, but her eyes were boundlessly dark. Others might have missed Xiao Ran’s smile, but she was able to catch it… ‘Who is that someone?’
….
Once the Su family left the Villa, Elder Xiao knocked his granddaughter’s head and reprimanded with a not so angry voice: “Did you lose your memory of the military training?”
“Grandpa, you lost your sense of humor.”
Massaging his temples, he argued with her and asked: “Where is that brat?”
Xiao Ran giggled and her brow curved up: “At his queen’s side. She is returning back from the Yue Military training. No wonder he quickly concluded the 3 billion dollar project so quickly. He is very calculative.”
Elder Xiao controlled his urge to curse, however, Xiao Ran’s next sentence broke that barrier.
“The weird thing was, he had a suspicious file in his hand. Is it a marriage registry form?” Xiao Ran poked Elder Xiao’s shoulder.
‘Snap!!’
“That sneaky brat!! Can’t he stay put for a day? How can I face my pal General Yue to ask him to let this rogue marry his precious granddaughter? Ahhhh! He will definitely kill me in the afterlife.”
Elder Xaio’s head was clouded with dark and blue lines. ‘What have I done!?’
Patting the Elder Xiao, who was sulking in chibi form, Xiao Ran gave a thumbs up: “Good luck with that.”
—-In Yue Villa—-
The sky was bright without a cloud in sight.
Paramount Marauder entered the Yue Villa, where Housekeeper Huang and Uncle Wang were standing in front of the big doors with a delighted smile on their faces.
The servants of the Yue family did not believe that their precious Young Miss, who was a jewel in their eyes, would go to the army to train.
