Reborn: The Unexpected Twist - Chapter 299
A dark place— that was where Jinhee found herself at when she opened her eyes. Looking around, she could not see anything else, and confused on where she was, she took a step forward.
Lee Jinhee’s mind was blank at that moment, and she could not recall what was the last thing she had done or how was it that she ended up here.
As she walked on the around, the sounds of her footsteps were distinctly heard, and that is when a noise caught her ears. Raising her head, she looked around to find the source of that noise.
The sound resembled that of water droplet falling one by one, and that is when a sharp pain went through her forehead, causing her to wince and close her eyes momentarily.
When she opened her eyes, they widened at how the scenery before her changed. The darkness from earlier no longer remained, and it was replaced with a beautiful scenery.
In front of her was a breathtaking waterfall, and the sound of the water rushing down was clearly heard by her. At that moment, that was enough to make her heart feel at peace.
The gentle breeze flowed, and on the other side of the waterfall was greenery. Turning her head around, she stared at her surroundings in confusion while wondering how did she end up here.
At that moment, Jinhee heard footsteps behind her, and tilting her head, she looked at that direction. An old man was walking towards her, and she found the man looking strangely familiar. But she could not exactly pinpoint where she had seen him.
“Dear, we meet again,” The old man said as a smiling expression showed on his face.
“I apologise for asking this, but have we met before?” Jinhee questioned as she raised one of her eyebrows.
“Dear, I don’t know if you recall. However, once you have helped me cross the road,” The old Man vocalised.
After thinking for a while, she came upon a realization and said, “Oh! I remember! No wonder you looked familiar.”
Staring around her, a grim expression settled on her face as she vocalised, “But where are we and why I am here?”
“Ah! We are at my favourite spot currently, and you are here because I have some important matters to discuss with you,” The old Man vocalised.
“Important matters?” Jinhee asked, raising one of her eyebrows.
The old Man nodded his head and said, “About you being reborn, all these changes, Taehyun’s betrayal, and why Taehyun and Jaehyun was chasing after you— I will be giving you answers regarding all of that today.”
“H-How do you know about all that?” Jinhee questioned as she took a step back.
Even though Jinhee was curious to know about what the old Man had in mind for her, she couldn’t help but be cautious around him. At this moment, she found him suspicious.
“My Dear, let’s just say I am the one who decides the fate and controlled the string behind all of this,” The Old Man said.
Pulling on a confused expression, she questioned, “What do you mean?”
Smiling at Jinhee, the Old Man vocalised, “This is going to last for a while, so let’s sit down and chat about it.”
At that instant, a wooden seat appeared behind Jinhee all of a sudden, and her eyes widened at that. Turning her head back, she touched the wooden seat to check whether or not it was real.
Touching the wooden seat behind her, she felt it’s texture, and observing the entire situation, Jinhee came into a conclusion of how she was finally turning crazy.
A chuckle left the Old Man’s mouth, and he said, “Don’t react like that, and sit down. You don’t have to be careful around me, Dear. I mean no harm to you.”
Sitting on the seat, Jinhee had her eyebrows furrowed while creases formed between two of her eyebrows. As a frown settled on her face, she asked, “Who are you and how did you bring me here?”
“I control fate, and don’t worry. Your body is in the real world. It is only your consciousness that is here.”
Taking this as one of her eccentric dreams, Jinhee decided to play along and asked, “What is the purpose for me being here then?”
“You were always curious about why things were different after you were reborn, right?” The old Man questioned.
Jinhee found herself nodding to that.
The storyline was not different after she was reborn; It was only two characters she took to be strange in the beginning— Kim Jaehyun and Han Taehyun.
“That is because it was not you being reborn in the first place. You were never given second place to lead the same life,” the Old Man vocalised.
His revelation caused for her eyes to dilate due to shock, and she had a hard time processing what he had just said. Although she repeated herself that this was merely a dream and things that go on within the dream are not real, a part of her wanted to believe the old man in front of her.
“I-I don’t understand you,” Jinhee stuttered out.
If it was not being her given another chance, what could the entire thing be about? It did not at all make sense to Jinhee, and she found herself being more puzzled.
“That day, when you slipped down the stairs and fainted, you had a long dream, which was very close to being realistic,” the Old Man vocalised, “That dream manipulated you to take all these decisions.
I was afraid that you would have met with a tragic ending if it was not for that dream. So, that is why, I showed you that dream. The ending in your last life was really sad, and thus, I decided to allow the fate to favour you this time around.
You were not given a second chance, but you saw a long dream, which could have been your future possibly if some things were not altered.”
