Reborn To Love - Chapter 236 When The Lights Closed
Chapter 236 When The Lights Closed Inside the bedroom, Gu Yechen had finished taking a (cold) shower, and he sat down on the bed next to He Xinyan, who had begun watching the video recording again.
“You are the main suspect for murder right now. How can you still be so relaxed and calm?” He Xinyan asked Gu Yechen as she watched the video.
Gu Yechen turned his upper body around and placed his arm over He Xinyan’s stomach, “I don’t have to worry. I have you, an investigator.”
He Xinyan scoffed, “Ch! You really know how to use your resources.”
“Incorrect. I am putting my life into your hands because I trust that you can help prove my innocence.”
He Xinyan raised one eyebrow, “Are you that confident in me?”
“Of course, because you can’t bear to live without me.” Gu Yechen replied proudly, lifting his chin up slightly as he looked at her gently.
He Xinyan’s eyes stayed on the computer screen as she scoffed. However, a very sweet and gentle smile had appeared on her face.
The bedroom was very quiet as He Xinyan closely watched the video, looking for clues. Next to her, Gu Yechen sat on the bed, watching her watch the video.
When a man is focused on doing something, he looks very handsome.
When a woman is focused on doing something, she also looks very beautiful.
Gu Yechen would never think that one day, there will be a woman willing to do all these things and think so hard for him.
There is someone who cares and is worried about him. . . This feeling was very nice.
This was different from the care one receives from family members. This made him feel very happy!
Gu Yechen felt like he could just sit here and watch her without doing anything forever.
In the beginning, He Xinyan was a little uncomfortable having a pair of eyes on her. However, after a few minutes, she stopped caring about it and focused on the video more.
As she watched it several times over and over, she began to realize that something was off.
She suddenly paused the video and turned around to look at Gu Yechen, “Why was Gu Kexin next to you on the ground after she did? And why did you have blood on your hands? What happened after the lights were turned off?”
That was what she had forgotten! He Xinyan had always felt like she had forgotten about something, and now she finally remembered what it was.
She had asked Gu Yechen this during the party, however, he never responded.
After the lights were closed, why was Gu Kexin killed? If the murderer really wanted to kill her, how could he have accidentally killed Gu Kexin when she was so far away.
She widened her eyes as she awaited Gu Yechen’s response.
Gu Yechen raised one eyebrow, “I don’t think you would want to know what happened.”
“Tell me!”
Gu Yechen cleared his throat and reluctantly said, “After the lights turned off, she suddenly ran over to hug me. However, at the same time, I saw a streak of silver flash towards you. I didn’t think much and pushed you aside. However, I don’t know what Gu Kexin was thinking. She pushed towards where you were standing and then. . .” Gu Yechen shrugged, “The lights opened and you saw what happened.”
He Xinyan furrowed her eyebrows together after hearing Gu Yechen’s story, “So you are saying, she hugged you?”
Gu Yechen nodded.
“Only a hug?”
Gu Yechen nodded again.
He Xinyan stared intently into his eyes, trying to see if she could notice anything in his eyes or facial expression. However, he didn’t look away or have any hint of uncertainty.
He Xinyan looked away again as she thought over what Gu Yechen had just said.
So, the lights suddenly turned off. Then, Gu Kexin took this chance to try and hug Gu Yechen. Or maybe she even wanted to kiss him. . .
He Xinyan shook her head to get rid of the thought that made her angry just from thinking about it.
Then, maybe Gu Kexin suddenly thought about the fact that she was standing next to Gu Yechen. So, Gu Kexin wanted to push her away, or maybe Gu Kexin even wanted to do something to her in the darkness.
However, Gu Kexin had no idea that the one moment of jealousy she felt ended up killing her.
He Xinyan didn’t say anything as she pressed her lips together.
Maybe if Gu Kexin had just didn’t move after the lights turned off, then she would be able to at least finish the first day of being 23 years old. She would still be the treasure of Wang Yani, the adopted granddaughter of the Gu family.
He Xinyan narrowed her eyes as she thought if this counted as Gu Kexin saved her life?
No. It doesn’t.
“What are you thinking about?” Gu Yechen asked as he pulled her closer to him on the bed.
He Xinyan shook her head, “Nothing.”
“You’ve been looking at that video for the past few hours already. Did you notice or see anything?” Gu Yechen asked as he grabbed onto her hand.
He Xinyan nodded her head and pointed to the worker’s leg, “Look here.”
She pressed play on the video and they both watched as the worker pushed the cake into the ballroom.
After he had finished walking, He Xinyan stopped the video.
“Do you see it?”
Gu Yechen nodded his head as he narrowed his eyes. The worker seemed to not be able to walk properly, and he seemed to limp slightly on his right foot as he walked.
“I thought about everyone I know, but I just couldn’t think of anyone who might have an injury on their right leg.”
He Xinyan continued to search her brain for anyone and Gu Yechen did the same.
After almost a minute, Gu Yechen slowly spoke up, his voice softer than usual.
“I thought of someone.”
He Xinyan frowned, “Who?”
Gu Yechen was silent for several seconds before he softly said, “There is someone I know who works for my grandma, Wang Yani. His leg was injured in a shooting several years ago and he still has a limp.”
He Xinyan was silent as she thought for several seconds. After a while, she narrowed her eyes and looked up.
She opened her mouth and was just about to say something when suddenly, the phone rang.
Gu Yechen turned around and grabbed his phone from the nightstand, glancing at the contact name written on the screen.
He frowned when he saw that it was the butler of the Gu mansion. Why was he calling him?
Gu Yechen looked over at He Xinyan before picking up the call, turning it into speaker mode.
Before Gu Yechen could even speak, the butler on the other end of the phone let out a loud sigh and hurriedly spoke:
“Young Master Gu, you finally picked up! Please hurry and come to the Gu mansion!”
Gu Yechen frowned. He didn’t receive any calls earlier, “Why? What happened?”
The butler sighed, “Last night, the old master suddenly had a heart attack. It was late at night and she was going to bed so no one found out until the next morning! She is still in the emergency room doing surgery right now.”
He Xinyan’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked over at Gu Yechen, who didn’t seem to be as surprised as she was.
Gu Yechen raised one eyebrow, “Okay, I will leave now.”
He then hung up the call and looked over at He Xinyan. This news about Wang Yani further reassured their previous guess.
“Your grandma has heart problems?” He Xinyan asked.
Gu Yechen shrugged, “She does have some small problems, and the doctor did say things about her having heart problems before. You know, when people get old, they can’t escape from health problems. However, she never had a heart attack before.”
He Xinyan frowned, “Why do you think she suddenly got a heart attack?”
Gu Yechen didn’t respond as they looked straight into each other’s eyes. Without speaking, they both knew what the other person was thinking.
Finally, He Xinyan opened her mouth.
“She must have heard the news about Gu Kexin’s unfortunate death.”
—
An hour later, Gu Yechen and He Xinyan were on the road to the Gu mansion.
It was nighttime already and there were few cars on the road. Because it was dark and the car was comfortable, He Xinyan soon fell asleep.
Gu Yechen drove and he would glance over at He Xinyan once in a while.
Although his natural instincts told him that his grandma was behind the murder, he didn’t really want to believe it. After all, Wang Yani was his maternal grandmother.
It was after midnight already when the car stopped in front of the most prestigious and private hospital in all of Country Z.
Unlike the Jinxi Hospital, this one was private and only open to a few families. However, even so, the doctors inside were top-level and were the most skilled in their profession.
Gu Yechen debated about waking He Xinyan up and finally decided to do so.
He Xinyan slowly blinked her eyes open and took a while to adjust to the bright sign lit up by lights in front of her written ‘Shangji Hospital’.
“We’re here?” She asked, her voice slightly cracked from just waking up.
“Yes. Do you want to come in with me? If you don’t, you can just sleep here.”
He Xinyan shook her head as she unbuckled the seatbelt, “I’ll go with you.”
