Rehabilitating the Villainess - Chapter 111: Gift (2)
There was the only intact page that was not torn.
[To get closer to your lover, one of the ways is to bully him.]
[If the person you like is swearing at you as if they hate you, you need to think about it the other way around. Rather, it could be that he is interested in you.]
As soon as I read the text, I was convinced.
Turning my head, I pointed my gaze at Shael, who was eating dessert next to me pretending not to know anything.
‘Did she leave only the pages she likes and ripped out the other pages?’
I admired the cute Shael’s actions. Barely holding back my laughter, I just turned a blind eye to Shael’s secretive actions.
Next came a conversation about my future with Shael. It was also the time when Duke Jespen raised his voice most fervently.
“I don’t want to bring out this matter already, but…the Azbel family and the Baslett family needs someone that posses both the bloodlines.”
Duke Jespen looked back and forth between Shael and me.
I spoke on behalf of Shael, who was silent because she couldn’t overcome her shame.
“Of course we agree. However, we would like to have a year or so to happily spend our time together.”
“I see.”
Duke Jespen nodded his head. It was a reasonable statement, so he seemed to understand it too.
Of course, I wanted to see my daughter as soon as possible, but it was a matter decided after careful consideration. Because if you have a child as soon as you become a married couple, you won’t have the chance to enjoy the newly married life.
“Even so, I think it would only take a year at most.”
“…..”
“By the way, the Basletts have a lot of great wines.”
What that statement conveyed was simple.
“So, you…”
Duke Jespen’s words were interrupted by Shael’s stare, and the conversation about the matter ended with that.
After that, Shael and I walked back towards my bedroom. No matter how much time passed, her blushing face didn’t return to its original color.
Even though the conversation had already ended, but it’s contents still stayed in our hearts.
An awkward atmosphere lingered between us. So I had no choice but to be the one to break the silence.
“Let’s go in.”
“I’m sorry.”
As soon as we entered the room, Shael couldn’t overcome her embarrassment and turned around with her back facing me.
“Okay, I’m going to go to the bathroom for a while.”
And, Shael finally chose to escape.
It was honestly a good thing, because my condition was not much different from Shael’s. But there was one thing I was mistaken about. Shael didn’t run away, she fought back.
Shael said she was going to the bathroom, but when she came back to my room, there was a wine bottle in her hand.
“….”
Shael set the wine bottle down on the table.
It must’ve required incredible courage for her to do such a thing, so I couldn’t back down as well.
I gently put the wine glass in the room on the table and tilted the wine bottle.
The red-tinted wine filled the wine glasses. Even as the wine glasses overflowed, Shael and I remained silent.
Soon Shael and I lifted our wine glasses without a signal. There was no need for side dishes. Because we were already aware of the intent in the other’s eyes.
I was worried that I might lack the resolve to take that step, so I carefully drank the wine.
As I raised my head, the ceiling seemed to be closer than it should be. I couldn’t tell if it was because of the a1cohol or if it was because of my erratically beating heart.
The wine glass was soon empty.
Intoxication lingered, exhalation filled the air, and the circulation of blood sped up.
My body felt strangely hot, and the ceaseless beating of my heart felt uncontrollable.
After a mustering up the courage, I took Shael in my embrace.
As soon as I felt her soft body in my arm, the nervousness from before vanished.
It wasn’t long before our lips met, and the final wall collapsed, as we finally united as one.
A warm atmosphere filled the room, and the cold night air provided even more comfort.
The dizzying and long night continued.
* * *
I opened my eyes feeling refreshed, and felt the weight on my body.
At the moment, Shael was using my stomach as a pillow to sleep.
The irregular sound of Shael’s breathing felt harsh, as if to show her fatigue.
I would normally look at Shael with a smile, but I couldn’t because of the strange sleeping posture.
“Let me sleep, please. Can I use the bed…”
She muttered under her breath.
“Then sleep.”
Was she awake or she was just talking in her sleep?
Shael, who was muttering strange nonsense, fell asleep again.
‘Use the bed?’
Of course it wasn’t bad. I was more than willing to serve as a bed for the villainess.
Shael tossed and turned while muttering something in her sleep, but her sleeping posture still looked quite uncomfortable.
As I pushed Shael aside a little, something fell off to the bed.
Tooung!
It was a cross.
The cross she bought when we went to the Holy Land’s Blessing Meeting.
‘Did it say that the cross will make it come true if you make a wish every day?’
If Shael, who had no patience, had been carrying the cross and wishing to it everyday, it was obvious what that wish could be.
It must have been a wish related to me.
I took the cross that Shael had been carrying with her all this time and made a wish as well.
I wished for a happy future.
‘I’m still happy, but…’
I hope that one day we can have a happier family.
I made the wish, and turned my head to look beyond the window. The golden rays of sun shined upon my face, as if to signify the arrival of a bright future.
Putting the cross back in Shael’s arms, I closed my eyes, and smiled.
For some reason, it felt like the arrival of a small and precious gift.
