- Chapter 21 Running A Dungeon Part 2
After I spent some time with Orai, I teleported to the end of Constrictor. I saw that the ladder to the second floor was replaced by Briggs’ nearly finished spiral staircase. As I walked down to the 2nd floor, I was greeted with the Dungeon Core room. Compared to the rest of the dungeon, the room was the same as it was when I first started. Since I had 1005 DP, I decided to upgrade the room from its current rank of C.
Dungeon Core Rooms are special rooms that are highly customizable. While some variants are locked behind a DM rank requirement, others are only locked behind a DL requirement. Dungeon Core Rooms have their own tab in the DP Market and have their prices derived under the “5 Day Rule”. The rule states the base price of a DC Room would be the equivalent to a mob of similar rank staying in the dungeon for 5 days. For example, since Obsidian is worth 200 then a B rank room would cost 1000 DP. The following table was presented at the top of the tab:
——————————————–
Dungeon Core Room Base Prices
Lesser (C) [Free]
Regular (C+) [250 DP]
Improved (B) [1000 DP]
Improved+ (B+) [2500 DP]
Greater (A) [4000 DP]
Greater+ (A+) [10000]
Mythic (S) [16000 DP]
Mythic+ (S+) [40000 DP]
——————————————–
As you would expect, I felt my jaw drop to the floor when I saw the price of a mythic DC Room! However, the listed stats and benefits of obtaining the room were absolutely worth the price. Not only do you get some of the best materials on Orune integrated into the room but you get material that only the Gods have access to! Mythic rooms, as well as other rooms, can also spawn a limited number of mobs that are the same rank as the room. This meant you could get Mythic level mobs to spawn into the room without having to spend additional DP! The only downside is that the mobs can never leave the Dungeon Core Room. They are considered apart of the Dungeon Core’s Defense System so they are set to permadeath if they leave the room for more than 5 minutes. However, if they fight and die inside the room, they can actually respawn! Imagine Mythic level beasts respawning for free! That was enough to make my mouth drool.
Anyway, I decided to only upgrade the Dungeon Core Room to C+ since I needed to distribute my DP evenly across the dungeon. As I pressed ‘Confirm Upgrade’, I noticed that a wave-like light began to disperse from Dungeon Core in the center. The Room was being actively upgraded in front of me! The old and dusty walls were replaced with fresh, matte-black stone replacements. The Core began the process of surrounding itself in an armored shell of some sort, which was a mixture of White and Gold. I figured it did this to protect itself from ranged attacks and general damage. According to Hidarus, the only way to improve the health and Defense of the core is by upgrading the Dungeon Core Room that it’s housed in. In addition to that, I noticed that the flooring was made of a matte-black porcelain material, which subtlely glowed a mixture of red and blue. It seems that the Dungeon Core Room was directly tied to Orai’s core, as it seemed to suddenly come to life! Numerous types of C+ mobs began to spawn in the Core Room, mostly of the defensive type. The main one, which I deemed to be the “Boss” of my Core Room, was a Heavily armored Minotaur that had to be as tall as Obsidian at around 10 ft. Unlike other C+ mobs, this one could speak intelligently.
“Hello, Dungeon Master Jordan. I am Vrudius and I’m the assigned boss of your Dungeon Core. As you upgrade this room, I will also upgrade with it. My duty, given by Hidarus, is to help protect your core. I may not be able to leave this room but I can still enter D1 if you wish. I do not eat or sleep so there is no need to think of me as anything other than your weapon. I will also manage the complete defense of this room at all costs”, Vrudius said.
“You can talk? I think you’re the first C+ mob that I know of that can talk. Do you spawn in any minions, AOE traps, or special abilities?”, I asked curiously.
“Yes. Depending upon the form that I take, I can use certain abilities. I am also ‘Immortal’ in the sense that if I were to die, I would be reincarnated back into the dungeon exactly 12 hours later. For higher ranks, that number can be significantly higher”, Vrudius said.
Well, I guess I’ll leave you to it Vrudius! I’ll leave the day to day operations of the Dungeon Core Room to you! The room is 50x50x50 so I’m interested in seeing what you have to come up with!”, I said walking up the stairs.
“One more thing Dungeon Master Jordan! Send Dungeon Core Orai down here! We need to talk about her energy usage! Her Core is all over the place!”, shouted Vrudius.
As I walked up the Spiral staircase, I saw the two Young Cerberus beasts that were guarding the entrance to the second floor. As I saw them sitting in their guarding stance, I could tell they were highly obedient beasts. It sucks that I’m only allowed to have two of them in the dungeon at once but I guessed that it was for fairness. Luckily, I can still add the adult version of Cerberus to the dungeon so I could theoretically have a max of three Cerberus dogs in my dungeon. As I patted them both on the back, they began to faintly smile before quickly straightening their posture.
With the daily management of the Core and Mobs completed, the next step on the list was to increase the Dungeon’s effective area.
The greater the area, the more DP I could potentially earn.
It was time to start the process of building structures outside of the dungeon.
Whether they were hostile structures or not? That’s a choice for later.
