- Chapter 25 Vrudius, The Dungeon Core Defender
“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! I need you to slow down, Master Jordan. Can you repeat it again?”, Vrudius said.
“You can see it right here, Vrudius. It’s in the book and it’s in the Dungeon’s System. It says the boss of the challenge will match the highest rank person in the dungeon and its minions will be a few ranks lower. That means the Boss will be an A+ rank monster of some sort and its minions will be B+. I don’t see what’s so hard to understand”, I said.
“Huh? Are you serious? Your Dungeon’s Boss is lower than the hostiles! I haven’t even been summoned for a day and I already have to face the possibility of being wiped out! Why don’t you put some DP into getting me a B rank Room already?”, Vrudius said.
“You worry too much, Vrudius. You’re acting like you won’t have any help from the other members of the Dungeon. Besides, I only have 5 DP left so we need to make do with what we have”, I said.
Vrudius and I were currently waiting in the Dungeon Core Room for the other members of the Dungeon. While we were waiting, I was learning certain combat and military tactics from Vrudius. As you would expect from a Dungeon Boss, he specialized in the efficient and effective use of his powers and troops. Vrudius told me some of his personal background while I was practicing my summoning abilities.
To start off, Vrudius and Helora were apart of Demon King Quillian’s army at the same time. Helora was one of Quill’s numerous Concubines and held a high position as his strategist. Although she seemed slightly perverted and lewd on the outside, her intelligence was on another level. She was also an expert user at most types of Offense but at the expense of having zero defense. Thus, she usually had an expert healer or a defense-heavy bodyguard with her at all times. She was lucky enough to be spared by ‘The Holy Hunter’ minutes after he killed Quill. Meanwhile, Vrudius was one of Quill’s most trusted bodyguards and heavy units. Vrudius used to be an S+ Titan-Class Demon who stood 30 feet tall and possessed levels of strength that earned him the title of ‘Demon Of The Abyss’. However, he fell to ‘The Holy Hunter’ and his party 2 weeks before the death of King Quill. Ever since then, he has been waiting in Hell for his chance to redeem himself. Luckily, Hidarus gave him that chance.
“I’m surprised Hidarus is allowed into Hell! I thought Demons and Angels hated each other?”, I asked.
“We hate those fucking angels but Hidarus is cool in our book. We pray to him and the Overlord of Hell every night. All demons in Hell respect Hidarus and value his opinion so when he speaks, we all listen. I’m pretty sure we would be at War with the Heaven’s if it wasn’t for Hidarus. It’s not surprising that he’s friends with our Overlord. He’s the only God that doesn’t have the self-interest of the Heaven’s in his mind whenever he speaks to us. Of course, if you piss off Hidarus, he’ll turn back into his former, sadistic personality. Sometimes, I wonder if he’s either a God or a Demon in disguise. I think that’s part of the reason why Demons respect him so much”, Vrudius said calmly.
“Interesting stuff, Vrudius. Do you mind telling me how you died to Predator?”, I asked curiously.
“Hahaha! Hell no”, Vrudius said smiling.
“Eh. Fair enough”, I said casually.
While I was listening to Vrudius’ story, I got the components together that I needed to summon my first beast. For my first summon, I wanted to combine the Minotaur and Dire Wolf components with some of the components that Helora gave me. Krotos was also kind enough to give me a vial of his blood and some of his feathers. With these components, I was confident that I could make a decent mob without spending any DP whatsoever. It’s better for the Dungeon if I can make high ranking mobs without spending an exorbitant amount of DP on the mobs.
With the Hidarus challenge looming over us, it was the appropriate time to create my first pet.
A custom mob with an unknown weakness.
This was one of the many benefits of being a summoner.
