- Chapter 30 The Hidarus Challenge Part 3
“Briggs! Can you hear me? I hope you guys are ready! You have numerous hostiles inbound. Looks like Helora and Krotos are slowing them down but some are getting through. I’ve put the Dungeon mobs on alert and I’m moving around some of our units to support you. Orai will send you the list of mobs that you can request for backup. You should be getting it in a few moments”, I said confidently.
While I was currently helping Vrudius set up the Core Room, Orai was in D1 activating our traps and priming our defensive systems. Using the Dungeon’s system, she pulled up our list of mobs and sent it to Briggs:

“I trust your judgment lads. Just give me whatever you want. This old dwarf needs to shake off his rust! It may not be Failnaught but my crossbow rarely misses! Right, Bose?!”, Briggs shouted.
“Bose. Kill!”, Bose stated.
As previously stated, Bose was a beautifully crafted Golem. He was still wearing his matte-gold paladin armor and was as human-like as before. He had a large frame, which was most likely because of his enchanted heavy armor. He also wore his helmet, with the inside still glowing a goldish-yellow. He was more intimidating than before and proudly stood 10-feet tall. Replacing the backpack that was frequently on his back was 2 weapons. The first was the weapon he used before, which was his matte black and custom Axe-Greatsword. The other weapon was the Minotaur’s Demonic lightning axe, which Bose had taken a liking to. Most Minotaurs drew power from special, rune-inscribed battleaxes that they carry so I guessed that Briggs modified the runes for his convenience.
As for Briggs, he was currently in his matte-black dwarven armor but without his bow on his back. I was surprised to see that he had what looked to be a crossbow. Similar to his bow, his crossbow was also matte black. However, judging from the rune on the weapon and the black lighting that was coursing through the crossbow string, I guessed that Briggs found a way to transfer the rune to his favorite weapon. In place of a bow on his back, he had the battleaxe he got the rune from. Judging from its looks, it wasn’t in the best of shape but it would get the job done if he needed to melee.
The hostiles were currently looking around the Rest Area, making sure that no stone was left unturned. It was only a matter of time before they burst through the corridor’s doors.
“He’s going to get himself killed, isn’t he?”, I asked concerned.
“I’m not so certain. I’ll give it a…25% chance he survives without any backup, which is pretty moderate considering the situation. It’s only an estimate though”, Vrudius said.
As I looked at Vargoz, I noticed that he was flying behind Vrudius. He was most likely bored at the lack of action he was getting but his sporadic movements were weirdly satisfying. As I was staring at Vargoz, he stared back at me. Suddenly, using the magic stored within him, Vargoz spoke to me telepathically in a tone he never used before.
“The Measure Of A Dungeon Master Is What He Does With Power. Avoiding Corruption Of Power Is To Face Beings Stronger Than You. Power Resides Only Where Men Believe It Resides. A King May Watch His Men Die But A Friend Will Fight Alongside Them”, Vargoz stated.
“Fuck it! I’m going in. Orai! I’m entering Constrictor! Watch over the Core Room!”, I shouted.
“Ehhh? What do you mean? You can’t fight them yet! We are B ranks at best!”, Orai telepathically shouted into my mind.
“It’ll be fine! I’ll send some Golems and a few other mobs to the Core Room! If I survive this, I’m definitely taking you on a date! See you guys later!”, I smiled.
“Wait, what? What was that last part? What did you say? Jordan!”, Orai shouted curiously.
As I ran out of the Core Room, I held out my right palm so Vargoz could land into my hand. Surprisingly, he was lighter than he looked. After grabbing Vargoz, I sprinted up the staircase to support Briggs and the rest of the Dungeon.
“Jordan? Are you there? Shit. He’s gone isn’t he?”, Orai said.
“Yup”, Vrudius said.

After arriving on the first floor, Vargoz began speaking to me.
“Did you like my speech? I think I’m getting used to the purified section now. It’s a little weird not shouting highly descriptive scenes of blood, horror, and suffering but uh…this is ok too. Luckily, I’m still bloodthirsty! Imagine NOT wanting to kill people every 5 seconds! Hahaha!”, Vargoz laughed.
“I don’t…I don’t think I can relate with that, Vargoz”, I said.
“You’ll get there soon enough, my promising apprentice! I took a small peek into your memories while you weren’t looking and I have to ask: how did you let yourself get stabbed by that ROOKIE! His form was way off AND he was an ugly piece of shit. Double whammy, my friend. You never want a Double Whammy. In terms of your combat readiness, I’ll give it a solid 3 at best. But since you saved that girl, I give it a 7”, Vargoz said.
“Bro. What the hell, man? Why are you in my memories in the first place?”, I asked.
“Don’t worry about it! I just glanced over some things here and there. But uh…you really like oppai though, don’t you? I don’t understand what ‘Computers’ are but 1TB seems like a bit much, right?”, Vargoz joked.
“Are all Demons assholes or is it just you?”, I joked.
“Touché! Am I using that word right? Anyway, you conduct yourself pretty well despite that so well done! Even someone as powerful as me has partaken the pleasures of flesh. But I have to be honest with you, Dungeon Master. It’s such a strange world you come from”, Vargoz said.
After I walked past and petted the Cerberus dogs, I noticed that the doors to the corridor were about to break. Fulfilling my promise, I sent the following mobs to the Core Room:

Slimes x2 [B]
Elementals x3 [B]

As I jumped on the back of a Wyvern, I continued our conversation.
“If you think my world’s strange, how do you think I feel about this one?”
